I'm going to be "that guy". You know, the "umm, actually..." guy. Mostly because I rather enjoy the hidden joke in the whole thing. 42 is technically the Ultimate Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything. But since nobody knows what the Ultimate Question actually is, the Ultimate Answer on its own is meaningless. However, I like the hidden joke that I have seen very few people notice (though as I recall, Adams himself never confirmed any theory to its meaning to be true). In computers, the most common chart for the binary representation of characters is ASCII. In ASCII, the number 42 comes out an asterisk. And, an asterisk is typically a wildcard in searches that matches anything and everything when on its own. So it could be said that the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything is... whatever you want that asterisk to mean. "Life is what you make it."

@@ApeironTsuka Uh, no. That's really reaching. I'm pretty sure it doesn't mean anything, and that's more likely the deeper meaning, if there is any, that life is a meaningless mystery. And with people trying to figure out what it means to this day, one coul infer that it means life is what you make it, the meaning is the meaning you give it. I'm almost certain that it doesn't have an actual answer as, like you said, no one knows the question.

I'd argue "Rise of Skywalker" is even worse. At least "The Last Jedi" had original ideas, even if they were horrible, and it had an actual plot. ROS was just a mess, and made zero sense. Somehow Palatine has returned." That line alone, in my mind, makes it one of the worst films of all time. It reminds me of " Misery" when she was complaining about the chapter serials cheating the audience.

Hey Aaron, If you like Charles Dickens as much as I do, I just know you will ABSOLUTELY LOVE the novel 'Drood' written by Dan Simmons, the same author that wrote 'The Terror,' which was an amazing Historical Fiction interpenetration of the famous British Franklin Expedition. It's also just as good in on Audible, narrated by an Englishman name Simon Prebble (who reads the characters so well, that I remember his name).

Alan Smithee? LOL pseudonym. I saw Scent of a Woman on cable years ago, and because is was EDITED to death for TV, it was directed by Mr Smithee.

7:18 The irony that the last film he directed didn't get the Alan Smithee directing credit.

Thoughty2: Wait a minute! Some of those movies are pretty good! Like Dune (1984), and Scent of a Woman (1992), and Heat (1995), and Supernova (2000).

In these cases the directors objected to various recut versions not theeoriginal theater release. At least that is what t_e video said.

Jimmy Neutron has an episode that has a director character named Quentin Smithee- likely a nod to this, especially since when the characters look for info on Smithee it turns out there’s no info on him at all. Also, I absolutely adore all the Douglas Adams bits in this and other episodes. My first thought when I found this channel was how appropriate it was that the name sounds like The Great Answer. Well done.
