Why Heron Marinor is The Coolest Affordable Microbrand Diver

In this video, I will review probably one of the toughest diver watches on the market. This Heron Marinor is a great affordable alternative to the Tudor Black Bay 58. One of the most important features of the Heron Marinor is the hardened scratch-resistant steel. Watch the video to find out how the steel performed over time.
Since I have my Tudor Black Bay 58 in similar dimensions I could not help but compare these two watches. I don’t think they are identical but I think they have certain similarities and things in common.
Both are 39mm diver watches so I think that the Heron Marinor easily can be a great alternative for the Tudor Black Bay 58.
Another reason I was happy to review this watch is because Héron is a Canadian microbrand watch company based in Montreal. The first watch Heron made was “Gladiateur” in 2021 and the Marinor is the second.

I am glad you mentioned the north star at the end. It's something that certainly hasn't been my favourite aspect of the watch, but most seem positive. For me, it is not about the star itself, but rather the fact that we have two figurative elements with very strong directional aspects placed far too close together. In other words, if Heron wanted a special and custom 12 o'clock marker, I feel they should have gone with their Heron logo instead. That would have kept it cleaner. Or, alternatively, do something smaller and abstract within the scheme and keep the logo as is. For me this Heron goes straight up against the Tusenö Shellback in approach, quality features, and the kind of identity it offers. Especially in that last aspect I feel the Tusenö still has the more remarkable and preferable package. This Heron stays closer to well-trodden paths so is better suited to those with more conventional proclivities, which in that respect matches well with the Tudor comparison. Tusenö is noticeably more its own thing.

Thanks for your detailed comment. I really enjoyed having that Heron on the wrist and I think it's a pretty good package overall. Tuseno looks very good also but I didn't have a chance to have my hands on that model. I actually have the Tuseno First 38 Chrono model and it's a very well build watch for the price.

Gorgeous watch and unlike other people, I actually LOVE the index in the shape of the north star. It sets it apart form the gazillion submariner homages.

Case is made of hardened steel? Need to clarfy this as some reviewers mentioend it has a hardness coating instead.

The star kills the look of it. I think they shot themselves in the foot with that design decision. Put a triangle at the top and give it a Sellita movement, and I'd buy it for $1000.

according to website the watches are 'designed in Canada' ... which basically means its made in China - which would be fine if they owned up to it
