For the exploding vacuum cleaner, I wonder what would happen if they sped up the robot to a more realistic speed. I feel like the test wasn't completely valid because they were going too slowly. They could have created a lot more static electricity on the carpet if they made it go faster.

I'm not sure that would have helped because that rotating brush will generate loads all on its own. You've given me an idea though, what about adding a person and one of those Kirby vacuum cleaners with the metal casing into the mix? The person picks up charge shuffling along the floor getting the vacuum out then they touch the hoovers metal casing, it sparks and that ignites the powder. I think that's possible as it is not too dissimilar from that gas station fires myth which they proved was a real thing caused by static electricity.

The water heater could have put out the fire. They built a plywood house suspended off the ground. I bet if this was a masonry cavity wall with a concrete floor would have gone differently. The roof would have blown off but the walls would have stayed intact trapping the water. As the heater blew in this experiment, the roof blew off and the walls fell outwards taking most of the water with it.

@47:30 Yeah US homes won't survive this.. but how about a typical German house with 8+ inches of brick wall and a solid concrete floor and ceiling? The house i grew up in had ~18 inches thick outer brick walls (double layer) :-X

I wonder what it would do if it was a brick buily 1930s semi detached here in the UK. The house would still be standning, but knowin that the roofs were diferent with tiles, not shingles, I reckon the first piano would of gone right through. And the water heater would of extinguished the fire.

I think it would be fair to suggest that the real flammable sunscreen case may have been a problem with a particular brand, or even a particular batch, rather than a problem with all spray sunscreens

For those who own a dog - don't get a metal water bowl for your furry friend, get a concrete/cement one instead. It may be a bit more expensive, but its more durable, and it doesn't absorb heat like a metal one will. So, on a hot day, your dog's water will remain cool.

How did they earnestly test a creamy liquid shot across a flame? More importantly not how sunscreen is ever used. They should have applied it to a surface and compared its burn time difference to a control. It was never going to activate anything by being shot across a flame, that's poor science.

The way Adam tests the flammability of the products near the start of the episode is stupid, that fire suit would have done nothing had the contents ignited with the flame going into the container and the whole thing exploding like a grenade in his hand. he also wasnt wearing the head piece which would have very well protected him had this scenario happened, I'm no safety man but that bit made me wince NGL.

the contents are flammable, not explosive. they can't burn until they are mixed with air, as there is no oxidiser within the can

@@alextopfer1068 Ive heard tons of horror stories about people exploding aerosol cans in their hand trying to use them as flamethrowers, I can understand how the squirty tubs wouldn't explode, but the compressed airosol cans definitely can, compressed air, oil and a spark can cause an explosion, Like when paintball air cans get a tiny bit of oil in them and they get compressed, those can explode.

@@rockittt and i've heard tons of horror stories about shit that demonstrably didn't happen. don't believe urban myths I'm not saying it's a good idea, but you're not going to blow it up compressed air is a different situation because of the oxygen, but aerosol cans don't use it as a propellent for that reason
