Thank you for watching everyone! Also I made a little goof and at one point called Ken Watanabe's character in the Monsterverse "Ishiro Honda" instead of "Ishiro Serizawa". I even had it written down as Dr. Ishiro Serizawa. I guess all that typing about Godzilla '54 and Astro Monsters got to my head when recording came around.

Greetings! Hope you're having a good day. I feel a lot of the criticisms were fair, because a good chunk of them were true. The human characters were the weakest aspect of this film. You need a group of compelling and interesting individuals who can keep you engaged when the monsters aren't on screen, and King of The Monsters didn't nearly do as good of a job as some of the earlier installments. My thoughts in this video perfectly sum up my problems and overall issues with the flick. I don't feel it's the worse installment in this franchise, but it's far from being the best. As far as a human less cast for a Godzilla movie is considered, you would need a team of very talented people in order to pull it off. But I highly doubt it would be able to work otherwise. These kinds of movies usually rely on the impact the monsters leave on civilization, and without that I'm not entirely sure a 100% kaiju focused film would work.
@BrandonVoiceGuy4 жыл бұрын
Yes humans are important for godzilla movies but, when it interferes with, or takes over the kaiju fights, and pushes them to the sidelines, and takes priority over said Kaiju fights is when it becomes unnecessary. So yes I dont care about the Human drama in KOTM. I was never interested in the human drama that had nothing to do with the Kaiju fights and I don't even care to remember what it was. All I remember was that it completely ruined the Godzilla vs. Ghidorah fight, I had to watch pointless human drama while Godzilla and Ghidorah fought in the background barely able to see anything, because the movie Wanted to focus on pointless human drama. if Done Right the human scene / drama makes Godzilla movies better however king of the monsters completely dropped the ball on it. that's my opinion if you disagree more power to you, but as for me, the movie suffered from having too much pointless human drama and not enough Kaiju fighting..... also Millie Bobby Brown's character was completely pointless.....just saying

Thank the lord *Godzilla: Minus One* changed history yesterday by bringing clarity in showing that humans mattered a lot in a monster movie like Godzilla.

Godzilla minus one just proved why the human characters matter! Probably the BEST Godzilla film of all time.

Godzilla and human drama go hand in hand. The best Godzilla movies succeed by having compelling characters or stories (usually not both however) and powerful monster scenes/stories. To cut out either piece of that perfect equation is to subtract from what makes Godzilla, Godzilla. Of course I really enjoyed KOTM, a whole hell of a lot actually, but we’re talking about ideal Godzilla movies. And you really don’t have to look further than the early Showa Godzilla movies to show why such a combination is so powerful. Excellent analysis, and I definitely agree with a majority of the points you made.

From the trailers i was hyped for this godzilla film, not only were we getting classic monsters, but they were shown with such awesome imagery. Then i heard reviews from critics say that there was "too much monster action" and... That was music to my ears only increasing my hype! Finally saw the movie and enjoyed it much more then 2014, but felt it still suffered from the same problem 2014 did, what critics thought was 'too much' I thought was still not enough! What legendardy will hopefully realize is that we like our monster sceen time in chunks not in sprinkles. Rodan vs Ghidorah was a crime to put off screen and only show 5 seconds of it. On my second viewing i realized another issue, killing off the characters we know well and care about and giving focus to extras we don't care about, like cut the new cast in half or like maybe the film could have brought back Ford & the Commander for main military characters. The parents were fine but i feel the dad changed his view on godzilla really fast imo and the mom should have lived instead to maybe lend a hand in GvK. All in all this movie was great addition to the franchise, but it could have been spectacular.

Best Kaiju movies with good human drama and monster action to balance it out (imo): Godzilla 54 Mothra 61 Mothra vs Godzilla Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster Monster Zero Frankenstein vs Baragon. Godzilla 84 Godzilla vs Biollante Godzilla 2000 Godzilla X Mechagodzilla 2002 Gamera Guardian of the Universe Pacific Rim (I heard it was good;never saw it)

I 100% agree with you. Humans are important in a godzilla movie and the best movies did this well. King of the monsters gave us decent characters but they're not as bad as the critis are saying and are nowhere near as boring as captain boring in 2014. Great video man sorry if this comment is a bit late. Also 11:52 don't you mean sharwizawa

If I were to restructure the Monsterverse, I would have had Joe Brody and Ford be the main characters and both survive, maybe being separated and trying to help and get to one another. Joe actually has an arc where he learns not to be so obsessed and knows where to stop and be with family, but works together with Serizawa in Monarch. His work alongside Emma create the Orca and advance Monarch further. He sees Mark Russel as the obsessed version of himself that he used to be and attempts to teach and help Mark. In fact I would have Joe be the one to sacrifice himself, not only completing his arc but helping others along on theirs, and saving his remaining family. Serizawa actually creates the chemicals of the Oxygen Destroyer but never intended it being used as a weapon, which the military goes for anyways, and Serizawa's conflict is directly with Stenz. I would lastly have made Alan Jonah actually be Conrad from Skull Island, who once worked for Monarch and saw the bloodiest side of war, and has more faith now in Kong and the other Titans than in mankind for ensuring life flourishes. Not only does this build and connect the two sides of the Monsterverse, but we have a character we know has seen and gone through these things that can logically lead to eco-terrorism, and explains how he knows so much on Monarch such as where the Titans are. Hire me Legendary. BTW I absolutely loved KotM and it's one of my favorites in the series but I definitely think the MV has a problem with human casts.
@ricardodavis47304 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, Alan Jonah should have been omitted. Eco terrorism, while a real issue, isn't as prominent and is not very compelling for the story. It doesn't help that we don't know where Jonah is coming from aside from a few remarks and vague details. It's a trashy character motivation either way.

While I agree that the human element of the Godzilla movies definitely matters, I definitely *would not* be watching these movies if they didn’t have monsters in them, if that makes sense. The only reason I love KOTM is because the kaiju fights are fantastic, even though I recognize that it’s a shit film in most other aspects.

Andrew's death was not what motivated Emma. She made sense of her son's death as a result of the titans rising up to fight what she called the "human infection", and with all the knowledge she had available to her, she concluded that it was her mission to "save the world" by controlling the titans via the Orca and let them reclaim the planet and "restore balance". Up till King Ghidorah took control away from Emma is when she started to reassess her plan - but it wasn't until Madison took the Orca and ran away that she had a full change of heart. At the end of the day, her character flaw was being arrogant to think that she can control nature; she saw a problem with the world and thought she had the solution no matter how irrational it may be, but overall, she was a mother in mourning. You can sympathize with Emma because of her experience and intentions while not fully agreeing with her plan - similarly to Thanos in Avengers Infinity War and Eren Yeager in Attack on Titan.
