In Itachi Shinden, Mukai Kohinata's family split off from the Hyūga clan several generations before his birth, leading most to assume his bloodline was too diluted to possess the Byakugan. Mukai does in fact have a Byakugan, but only in his left eye and which only resembles a Byakugan when in use. This is where Ao get his byakugan from.

In my opinion, the Uchiha clan is more of "I expect you to be able to take care of our glorious eyes, don't be a disappointment in our clan." mindset, meanwhile the Hyuuga's (especially the branch side) are like "We are of expected to take care of the main branch and ourselves, we must not let people possess our valuable eyes." This is still debateable tbh.

It's also not a given. They have to awaken the sharingan and while most do, due to war and missions, many don't. The Hyugas are born with the Byakugan ready to wear.

Interesting debates on whether Byakugan or Sharingan are better. As far as the Hyūga Clan's protection of it, I don't see how anybody cannot call bullshit on it. The branch family are not servants. The main family orders them around, can inflict pain as punishment on them, and can kill them at any time. The Branch family are slaves. There is no justification for that.

The Byakugan needs more protection because you can prolly transplant it into anyone and that person could turn it on and off at will. Whereas the transplanted Sharigan (if youre not uchiha) can't be turned off so you need to be of top 1% of skill and chakra to even use it effectively.

Because Hanabi was recognized to be an amazing fighter, compared to her sister. For that reasoning, in the new series, Hinata is no longer the heiress but that is now Hanabi. Hinata is just a very rich house wife now.
