As an ex arborist this is some great advise!!!!! When you fall out of a stand for whatever reason it’s always a MASSIVE shock to the system so anything you can use to get you back in stand or on sticks is beneficial!!!!! Safety safety safety

Made the mistake of shooting a practice arrow right exactly where I expected the deer to come and got busted big time! Many years ago. Good tip!

I was out bow hunting on, Nov 7, with my longbow, I was using my 5 year old CRUZR XC and my new LWCG Ranger Hybrid platform. I was 15 feet up and suddenly very very dizzy. As I sat down on the Ranger seat, I looped my 2 year old CRUZR tether over my left shoulder. The next thing I knew, I had passed out and fallen off the platform. When I came back to consciousness, I could see the sky, the tree and my tether. I was hanging by my bridge, parallel to the ground, approximately 15 feet up. Once I realized where I was and what had happened, I grabbed the tether and used it to get back on the platform. My longbow and arrow were laying on the ground where they had fallen. I was not feeling well, but managed to get down safely and get my Ranger down as well. I'm 70 years young and I have a condition where my blood sugar can crash, drop very quickly. In worst cases, I will pass-out. I carry glucose tabs, and after resting and eating them once i got down, my blood sugar stabilized. The tether and saddle saved me. I have no doubt i would have been severely injured otherwise.

That’s one hell of a story, brother. Comforting story for myself because I use that same saddle!!

@konakreek3317 I love that saddle. I'll never use anything else. It has not stopped me from saddle hunting, but im going to get a new one and new tether because I don't know if the force of my weight and fall weakened my old CRUZR and tether. Safe hunting and Happy Holidays!

@sarafayelawton652 wow! So glad you are ok Sara! Had to be very scary. Glad the gear worked like it supposed to and you were able to recover yourself as well. Not a task that's is as easy as people would assume. So happy to hear you are OK. Agree I would order another saddle and bridge too. Back when I taught bowhunters Ed and hinter safety I did a demonstration falling out of stand with a harness on. Had a strap break once one me after doing about 6 demonstrations. Shock load is real and I would replace it to be sure.

Sam a rappel rope with a belay device secured above your head offers much more protection and allows you to safely descend to the ground. Falling even a few feet and slamming into the tree may leave you unable to get back onto your sticks or your stand. Plus if you have a traditional safety harness you have suspension trauma to deal with as well. Being able to quickly and easily get to the ground is more important than climbing back up into the stand.

@bowhuntznj very true. Also why I wear a rock style harness. But I'm not messing with belay ropes etc. But you are spot on

Whether I one stick or use 4 sticks I started using my 40 ft rappel rope as my tether backed up by an autoblock. since I'm saddle hunting if something were to happen I wouldn't go far from my platform. If I am tree stand hunting I always had my tether above my head and used a prussic to adjust the length.

Jason, what’s keeping your arrow on your shelf? I’m messing around with a rubber band set up right now and tweaking it with experience.
