On the actual mil-spec sheet it is referred to as a blood groove.

The fuller does not make it lighter since it is STAMPED! It works similar to an I beam in a building, its provides strength and support.

I agree. it's like an I-beam in a building does to make it structurally sound.

The exact same size and shape blade without the fuller would weigh more

@@rogerharvey9863 I'm afraid that people who say having less steel in the middle of the blade than more steel yields more strength and support have no understanding of physics. I've always chuckled at those statements. I agree with your statement, Mr. Harvey.

I'm an amateur knife maker, I've made a couple of knives before but I was thinking about making a kabar for my dad who used to be in the marines, I think he would like that.

That's an awesome idea. I think he would love it.

@ Rice V. Hey bud, Your right about the sweaty hands and the salts and acid... Treat the handle and scabbard with neatsfoot oil from time to time, it will help the leather last for a long time. I'm with you on the K-bar. In fact I cant thing a anything else that New York has to offer that I need now that Remington is no longer there. The place is enough to give a guy P.T.S.D. . Ever since Rudy left office the place has gone back to the RAT's.

Thanks. I've tried everything and it goes blacker than a 498 on me. And although I love Kabar, I would have to say, the Ontario SP1 is my all time favorite Combat knife. It's lighter, the blade is slightly thicker, and you could get it wet all day long and not worry about it. Yeah I heard about that guy who had Giant Pouched Rats and let them go now NY is infested with them. That's gotta suck.

If it was made in the 1940’s it wouldn’t say ka bar
@ricev70713 жыл бұрын
Actually, they do say Kabar but Camillus held the larger contract and produced more knives for the military than Kabar in WW2. There are many videos of collectors showing off their vintage Kabars and Camillus knives.

@@arcanon5080 it was called Union Cutlery but the term Kabar was used on the stamp of the blade and Union Cutlery, Olean, NY on the other side. This is what's called the Union mark but since the knives were under military contract, they were simply stamped Kabar, to differentiate between the Camillus and Robeson MKII's. After 1952 Union Cutlery is no longer stamped on the knives as Kabar USA was adopted in 1951 as their official name. If you have an original USN Kabar from WWII, I believe the the date the knife was made should appear on the back of the Nord fiberglass sheaths of that time. Hope this helps in case you come across a WWII Kabar and have any doubts. Oh, and Kabar is stamped on the ricasso or on the hilt along with USN. Both are legit.
