The criminals (wich we are importing massivly in our country) use knifes that are longer then 12cm, attack people in zones where they are forbidden and so on, so they don't care for the laws ( i mean yeah killing someone is already forbidden). Now they want to make a law wich forbids us to carry knifes that are longer then 6cm and they want to get more zones where weapons are forbidden. I don't know what the point of it is, because like i said the criminals are already doing everything wich is forbidden. Carrying any article for self-defence or for aggressive purposes is already unlawful. Using a knife for the purpose of intimidation or physical assault is already unlawful. The nefarious use of knives in the UK (and the legitimate use of knives in several circumstances) is already outlawed by so many different bits of legislation that banning any particular design of knife is absolutely meaningless. The young gang member carrying a knife on the streets could already be arrested and locked up for so many crimes that adding another charge pertaining to the particular style of knife he was carrying is just pointless. It's all about pandering to the alarmist media and ignorant, over-excited voters.

Not a single person was stabbed. Why is that? I wonder what the influencing factor would be.
@Si74l0rd4 ай бұрын
This is what should be at the heart of the conversation. Why is there is a generation of 50 year old men who can be trusted with a blade on their belt. Could it possibly be that education is the answer! When I was a kid, using a knife was a privilege that got revoked if you were caught messing around and being dangerous. Then you'd be the only kid that couldn't use a knife. When everyone else could sit there and whittle, you just had to find something else to do. The lack of trust stung. Now young people aren't trusted to do anything, least of all handle a blade. It's no surprise that they don't know how to behave when there are so many gaps in their education. The other huge question that should be at the heart of the debate, is why they're banning this, that, and the other, when kitchen knives are the predominant knife used in fatal and serious stabbings. There have been A&E doctors among others who have clearly said that kitchen knives are the problem. But there are no official govt stats to quote, because there are no stats for it at all. Despite it being clearly obvious to everyone, other than those making the laws. There seems to be an intentional blind spot when it comes to actually working on a solution. Which is all kinds of messed up, both for the added annoyance to those who use knives as tools, and kids are still going to be stabbed by kitchen knives even after all the machetes and fantasy knives are erased from these shores. Just a waste of time that will do nothing. I'd like to see the parents of those affected by knife crime talking about it being kitchen knives that killed their kids, not fantasy knives and zombie machetes. I'd like to see them talking about how this new legislation will make no difference because it's an invented problem. And that kids like theirs will die too, until we have a serious conversation about the causes of knife crime, and how to actually tackle it. It's not by banning certain types of knife though, that's for sure.

95% of Stabbings in the UK are committed with kitchen knives. The main reason being is that Kitchen knives are easily & cheaply accessible. For under £5 or USD 5. A police officer friend of mine who works in the Metropolitan police in London told me that the gangs that carry knives have learnt that they basically have a free pass to carry a kitchen knife in a plastic shopping bag. If they are stopped & searched by the police, they simply say they’ve just bought it from the supermarket and are on their way home to preparing, lunch or dinner. The police have no choice but to let them go. After they have committed their crime, they can easily dispose of the cheap knife in the drain, Gutter river or throw it on someone’s roof so it falls in the gutter. They don’t want expensive zombie knives because they want something that is cheap, effective and disposable. Banning sorts and jumping knives is simply political grandstanding and headline grabbing but will do nothing to prevent stabbings. In fact it will probably increase the number of stabbings as more gangs resort to carrying kitchen knives, which they have a legal and permissible reason for carrying. If a criminal is planning to murder someone that they simply stop at the supermarket first to purchase a kitchen knife, keep the receipt in case they are stopped and searched by the police, then commit their crime and then dispose of the knife. Easy.

People who are the issue already have no regard for the law. Walking down the streets of Bulgaria you’d see shops with all manner of items. Toy shops specifically, full of toys and games but also BB guns and “cool looking” knives. Other shops were selling “war” axes, daggers, machetes and the like. These weren’t hidden in the back like specialty items. They were actually right at the front. Not even behind a window. Essentially out on the street. You know what they didn’t seem to have. You guessed it, KNIFE CRIME. Among many other things. I didn’t see drug related crime (excluding maybe the sale of weed) or homelessness or disenfranchised youth and minorities slaying each other over gang disputes. From our perspective this is meant to be a poorer / less developed nation but in fact life seems 10x better because the government knows their place.

I have a vintage "I cut my way" out door sheath knife, and a couple of AK47 bayonets that I bought some years ago. They are all kept behind glass as antique historical items. Along with an American Vietnam helmet and a German ww2 helmet. There are also many glass, pottery and wooden objects that we have collected over the years. I'm starting to get a bit concerned that if the authorities did visit my home they could arbitrarily assume I was a racist knife welding terrorist. We collect all manner of antique/vintage items of interest to us. I used to run a pub and I ran the kitchen. I have quite a few kitchen knives that were very expensive. These are more lethal than all the novelty knives you can/could buy online. What's to stop a kid or a person with bad intent from taking a knife from the kitchen or going to Asda and buying a 10 inch chefs knife and going on to commit a crime? I've got a shed load of tools. I keep a tool box in the boot of my car. A wheel brace, a torque wrench and a hammer plus a socket set and spanners. Does this mean I am equipped to go for out and commit a crime? I also carry a small trolley jack, which I've used on a few occasions to change wheels on my own and my daughter's cars. If I hit someone with a trolley jack it's going to hurt. Does that mean trolley jacks could be considered as a weapon? For fucks sake.

Yes, trolley jacks (and any other object) can be classified as a weapon if the user intends to use them to harm/threaten another person.

Spot on with the kitchen knives. I always wanted a set of high quality Japanese chefs knives, so some years ago, I bought a set. they cost me a lot, but are what I always wanted. I taught myself how to sharpen them properly, and when I do you can shave with them, and they are a wonderful tool to have in my kitchen. but in the wrong hands, they are a lethal weapon. but, they're perfectly legal to own like so many people on here are saying. so banning knives is not the answer, its making those that use them in crimes pay the price for what they've done.

I've just adapted my Parry blade, to comply with the law. I didn't want to grind the serrated area, so I attacked the problem from another angle: The knife has to be 8" or more, to be illegal, and the Parry Blade is roughly 8 5/8ths inches long, actually it is exactly 22cm (*possibly Mel made it this exact size, as he was in 22 SAS). I wasn't going to shorten the blade, and I realised that blade length is measured from tip to handle, so I lengthened the handle, by making a new set of scales, that encroached onto the blade. Now, when measured the official way, it is slightly over 7 3/4 inches long. I lengthened the scales by exactly 22mm, as a nod to Mel, and his regiment. *when checking this, I realised that Mel Parry, sadly passed away last year. RIP, thank you for your service, and for a great knife.

I read through all the paperwork a few weeks ago, and only had concerns about one of my knives, which is a cheap knock-off of a 80s survival knife. What I hadn't realised on my read through was that the serrated section needed to be longer than two inches. Thankfully, mine is a little less. Otherwise I'd have lost the use of the knife that I use as a prybar, or for scut work, so I don't damage a good blade.

Cops knocked on his tent, couldnt do him for being drunk as he was no bother and sleeping in a tent, they searched his stuff and charged him for the swiss army knife. He went to court and stupidly did not get a lawyer. As he thought he was within the law. And he was. The magistrate court convicted him and he got a fine and a record for possession of a weapon or something, and i forget what else. But actually had he had a lawyer they couldnt have touched him. Take my “Rambo” knife from me try! Knife was made before the move and was in The Bush Wars in Africa. This knife has legs! And as a knife user…that old Bauchop is way more useful than your knife is. I would hate my finger burn chalking up on the blade with your knife. In a court of law I would use your style of knife to be useless and unnecessary. Side note. My bush knife is illegal. A 3.5” flip blade. Years in the bush in many countries and my love is a small blade flipper. No one needs really serrations or funny additions to there knife. I have processed elephants, hippos and Cape Buffalo with just a 3.5” flip knife truth if I had serrations it would have been a harder job. Next you will argue (not with that knife…that’s a zombie knife) how do you baton wood? Simple answer. Never needed to. I do not live in a city and buy wood. There is so much dead fall and dead twigs on the trees you can make a fire. Large wood is easy to break or just burn the full length till you can break it and burn again. I feel so sad for UK. You lost so much skills.

UK law is funny. I collect Kukris, but I specifically collect "villager" kukris, not military ones. The fact that mine were forged as tools and not as weapons, makes a significant difference under UK law. Particularly with oversized kukris. The two which almost fell foul of the sword with a curved blade laws a while back, are Georgian era, so they are genuine antiques, and they're culturally important because of the fact they were a central part of Nepalese animist religions, most of which are now forgotten. So I have 3 possibilities for exemptions in the future. But I fear it will get ever more stringent with regards to knife laws. They have no comprehension of manual labour, even as a hobby. So they dream up ridiculous catch all's, that end up making life a nuisance for law abiding owners, while doing nothing about the scourge of kitchen knife stabbings.

@northumbriabushcraft12084 ай бұрын
Luckily there is nothing that is going to be covered under the new ban in my collection, my machetes are all plain edged and all my knives are either made for practical use or military collectibles, so there are few serrations or holes in blades, other than one blade which has some serrations near the handle (sog seal pup elite) and a AK bayonet with a single hole for wire cutters, neither of which would be banned by the new law. Ironically, many of the blades I have are designed as weapons, old ww2 bayonets, 19th century sabres and the like. While the junk covered by this ban is gonna take a very determined effort to cause significant injury to someone. The whole ban is stupid, we need a gang violence initiative and immigration controls, not banning knives with features which are for display. Even if this won't affect me, I still find it so damn stupid. Do you know if there will be exemptions for antique knives, double sided jab saws, bread knives and other things?
