Since God took us out of the Charasmatic/Pentacostal church and placed us in a biblical church teaching expositorily we are now growing and instead of cherry picking verses I now read my bible whole chapters. I see the Holy Spirit in our church and in their lives and am now longer up and down in my walk with God. It's a steady growth now assured of our Salvation. We sing Hymns which are deep in Doctrine of the bible.I am also seeing another Jesus sung in the new contemporary worship songs. Spencer smith on KZbin explains s in depth about this. The focus should be on the gospel. Not us, not a movement, not experience, not how to live a better life now…. Jesus, who he is, how he taught, what his focus was on, and what the focus should be. He pointed everything to His Father and mentioned he obeyed his Father- Father God the Creator. Pride is absent.

Amen. Once you have personally experienced the Holy Spirit and His power, in the fruits and also the gifts, no one can ever make you deny His power for today. I used to doubt the gifts being for today, so I sympathise with anyone who doubts, for I once did. I prayed to Jesus Christ one day in a parking lot by myself, August 19th, 2023, acknowledging the gifts are for today, then I said Holy Spirit I yield my tongue to you, and by faith I proceeded to pray in tongues, and immediately there was a welling up sensation from my belly, and when it got to my tongue I prayed in tongues! Hallelujah. Yet I had been brought up in a church that did not demonstrate this, even my own family. The Word of God is true, abides forever. Since then, my mind was renewed regarding all the gifts and I knew they all are for today! Thank God for His grace and mercy. May the Lord help bring down the scales from His children's eyes, and pull down all religious strongholds and unbelief against baptism In the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

@wabachakimani51438 ай бұрын
@caroleimani9754 When one repents and believes on Jesus Christ, one receives the Holy Spirit and is sealed as per Ephesians 1:13, and this is the qualification to becone a child of God and part of the body of Christ (1 Cor 12:13). Baptism in the Holy Spirit (the Holy Spirit coming on/upon someone) as in Acts 1:8, is a different phenomenon that is also a free gift to all God's children, as we can see in Acts 19:1 - 6, where Paul preaches the gospel to 12 men, he baptised them with water (at this point they are already believers), he goes ahead to lay his hands on them and they receive baptism in the Holy Spirit and start prophesying and praying in tongues. In Acts 8:9 - 17, this is the portion that clearly depicts the 2 phenomenon, especially verse 16, where it mentions that the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of the BELIEVERS, they had simply been baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus. Peter and John pray for them, and they received the Holy Spirit (coming upon them, since already they had been sealed in regeneration and already born again). The purpose of baptism in the Holy Spirit is to receive power as Jesus Christ said to be His witnesses....to be able to not only preach the gospel in Word, but also demonstrate it by the power of the Holy Spirit with signs, healings and wonders, that is my understanding.

When I first started to go to a reformed church. I remember one day walking up to an elder and said "I have a word of knowledge for you". I could see the look of horror cross his face. He was relieved, when I told him "yeah...there's a blue Ford pickup truck, with it's lights on in the parking lot". I could have prophesized that it wouldn't start...due to a run down battery. But I didn't want to run the risk of it starting, rendering me a false prophet. Fortunately, prior to this, I left the charismatic church, because of false prophets. They tried to teach me how to speak in tongues. It reminded me of auctioneers school. I flat out refused to do their mouth exercises. God protected this newly minted, foolish Christian, from wolves. For which I will be eternally grateful. All to Him I owe. Most people don't realize Rush Limbaugh was a false prophet. He wrote a book about all his prophesies that came true "See I Told You So". Not all false prophets are religious. Rush just never wrote about all his prophecies that didn't come true. We live in dangerous times. We will know them by their fruit. Being truthful, is just one of the fruits of the Spirit. Work out your salvation, with fear and trembling. For it is God in you, to both will, and to do.

I have a Pentecostal background, and I suppose I would still be considered a Pentecostal by a card-carrying , bonefied, TULIP Calvanist. LOL. I personally don't call myself anything but a Christian. I'm 73 years old, been preaching 44 years, love Jesus with all of my heart, and hope to one day hear him say, well done good and faithful servant. I gave my life to Christ while home on leave, after spending two tours of duty in Vietnam. I responded to an alter call at a little Independent church in west Texas on August 25, 1971. I asked Jesus to forgive me of my sins, come into my heart, and save me from sin, Satan, and self. Jesus heard my prayer and came into my heart. Two weeks later, I was at home in my bed praying in the middle of the night when I received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. My mother came into my room the next morning and asked if I had learned to speak Vietnamese while overseas. When I said that I had not, she replied that she heard me speaking in the most beautiful language she had ever heard, all night long. Words can't express the encounter I had with God that night. I have seen lots of error and flakiness in the Pentecostal movement over the years, but, I have also seen some wonderful things. Of all the wonders I am aware of in modern church history, the testimony of Ronald Coyne is probably the greatest testimony a miraculous healing in modern times. I was a toddler when it happened. I would encourage anybody to look up the story of Ronald Coyne: KZbin: MIRACLE HEALING OF RONALD COYNE Ronald was a boy about 8 or 10 years old when he was prayed for by my Pastor's wife, Daisy Gillock. Ronald grew up, became an Assemblies of God preacher, and gave his testimony all over the world. Ronald died several years ago, but his testimony lives on. He was playing with a piece of wire when it pierced his eye . The eyeball got infected and had to be removed. Ronald was then fitted with a plastic, prosthetic eye. Ronald's mother was a devout Christian. She attended a tent revival in Supulpa, Oklahoma and took Ronald with her. My pastors wife, Daisy Gillock, was preaching that night. (Now I know that will ruffle the feathers of some of my TULIP brethren) LOL However, Ronald had been having trouble with his tonsils, and his Mom told him to get in the prayer line when Daisy finished her sermon. Daisy prayed for Ronald's tonsils, and then noticed that his eye was watering. She asked if something was wrong with his eye. Ronald replied that he was blind in that eye. (He didn't tell her that it was a glass eye). Daisy prayed and asked God to restore Ronald's sight. Ronald returned to his seat, and after a few minutes he looked at his Mom and told her he could see. She said, Ronald, I know you can see, now hush. He said, Mom, you don't understand, I can see out of my plastic eye. You can see him as a child, and as an adult giving his testimony on: KZbin; RONALD COYNE, DAISY GILLOCK; AND THE EYE MIRACLE I can only testify of what I have seen, heard, and experienced. The Church needs to quit fussing and fighting and start getting out on the streets and winning souls for Christ. I don't agree with 5 point Calvanists (or TULIPS), but I don't sit around calling them names. Let's love one another, put Jesus first, and try to do our best, winning the lost, praying for the sick, ministering to the oppressed, taking care of the orphans and widows, and ministering to the needs of the poor. SORRY THIS WAS SO LENGTHY: God bless all of you: Calvanists, Armenians, Continuationists, SESSATIONISTS, pre tribbers, mid tribbers, post tribbers. Let's agree to disagree and go to work for Jesus. Hold to the essential doctrines of the faith: ❤❤❤

Thank you for your testimony, Patrick. Like you, I started in the United Methodist church after being an atheist for twenty years. I was raised in the Roman Catholic church and was an altar server. I've been through the charismatic churches with the identical practices of which you spoke. And like you, the Holy Spirit of God led me out of them. He also led me out of the Masonic Lodge where I was an officer. You cannot lose your salvation because it doesn't depend on what we do, but what Jesus did at the cross and what He is doing every day in our lives. He keeps us; we do not keep Him. You're right that a born again Christian cannot be possessed by the devil, but they can be oppressed, causing the same kind of problems. God led me into a spiritual ministry of deliverance with a partner; that lasted for twenty years until my partner passed away. We helped over 11,000 people with spiritual problems, many of which had been diagnosed as mental illness. Everyone we helped, were set free.. During that time I learned that the tongues spoken in the churches are NOT gifts of God, but they are not sinning by uttering them. The words they utter are meaningless, but I found it's impossible to convince tongue-speakers that their 'gift' is fake. I also came across Justin Peters' ministry, and it is very good, exposing the fakery of the charismatic churches. I used to regret having been a Roman Catholic, and a United Methodist, and a member of a charismatic church, but God allows such things to teach us.The experience is valuable, and sinks in more than reading it in a book.

To everyone here that says they have the gift of tongues: I would like your opinion on my experience with tongues. I grew up Baptist until I was 18 but am now Pentecostal and have been for over 20 years now. I have prayed in the past for the gift of tongues. One time over 10 years ago, while in church I heard syllables in my mind that made no sense to me. I thought "this must be tongues" and started repeating them. The same thing has happened to me for probably about 5 times or less since the first time. Now, the more I study tongues in the Bible and listen to sound teachings, I'm beginning to question if that is really tongues. One thing I've never heard a continuist answer is, where in the Bible are tongues described as gibberish? Acts always describes tongues as an earthly language that the person speaking doesn't understand, but someone listening does understand. I have heard a few occurrences of this type of tongues in the past few years, where a preacher was speaking English but a listener heard him in his native language. This is scriptural whereas I now question the repeated syllables I still occasionally hear at my AOG church.

Your acts and Luke passages clearly speak of salvation and the power to share the gospel that come when you receive the Holy Spirit which is exactly what was spoken about here. No one denies that. However neither say speaking in tongues is required. The Corinthians passage you mention is a rebuke from Paul not an exhortation. Because if you stood up and spoke a language no one in the congregation knew and there wasn't someone there that did know the language to interpret it then it was only God that would know what you said since God understands all languages. I understand I too "spoke in tongues" for 40+ years. It was therapeutic in the way that people who say mantras and do yoga and deep breathing. None of those are biblical so even though it may "feel good" they have no value in our relationship with God if they are contrary to scripture. God speaks all languages you don't need a secret language to speak to him. He knows what you need before you even open your mouth. Be encouraged Blessings.

couple of things. I listen to men like Pastor Hines and Father Spyridon for example because they preach the true Gospel. They don't believe in speaking in toungues. That's okay. They are saved and wonderful. It's unfortunate your going to judge a great man of God like Derek Prince who is arguably the greatest Bible teacher in last 75 years, and judge based on what you just pointed out. I think Pastor Hines would agree with me. Derek Prince's KZbin content is spiritual gold. Another man of God that spoke in toungues is Reinhard Bonnke, he has brought millions of Africans into the Chrisitan faith and arguably the greatest evangelist in last 75 years. I think Pastor Hines would agree on this too. Very few men of God have been used like Derek Prince or Reinhard Bonnke. Zac Poonen who is still alive is incredible man of God. You can KZbin his videos.I bring this name up because he discusses this. Yes in a congregation you don't just speak in toungues without interpretation. But praying in the spirit with you and God in unknown toungues and praying together with other believers in unknown toungues is different. For example we lead prayer for God to raise woman intercessors in our territory. We can pray an hour on just this prayer point. We pray to God in toungues. The holy spirit helps leads us but also gives us endurance. I'm sure people do it but would be difficult for me to pray for 12 hours without toungues. Romans 8:26-27 BSB [26] In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words. [27] And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. Ephesians 6:18 BSB [18] Pray in the Spirit at all times, with every kind of prayer and petition. To this end, stay alert with all perseverance in your prayers for all the saints.

Key Verses: (1 Corinthians 14:2-19) 2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. 3 But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. 4 Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church. 5 I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be edified. 9 Unless you speak intelligible words with your tongue, how will anyone know what you are saying? You will just be speaking into the air. 10 Undoubtedly there are all sorts of languages in the world, yet none of them is without meaning. 11 If then I do not grasp the meaning of what someone is saying, I am a foreigner to the speaker, and the speaker is a foreigner to me. 12 So it is with you. Since you are eager for gifts of the Spirit, try to excel in those that build up the church. 13 For this reason the one who speaks in a tongue should pray that they may interpret what they say. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. 15 So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding. 16 Otherwise when you are praising God in the Spirit, how can someone else, who is now put in the position of an inquirer, say “Amen” to your thanksgiving, since they do not know what you are saying? 17 You are giving thanks well enough, but no one else is edified. 18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. 19 But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue. "This is one of the most discussed and debated passages in Scripture today. Paul initially seems very critical of speaking in tongues, but it is clear that he views it as a legitimate gift of the Spirit when in verse 5 he says, “I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy” and in verse 18 he says, “I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you.” So how do we make sense of this apparent contradiction? An explanation, as is often the case, requires an understanding of the historical context. Unlike today’s worship services (where preachers are the only voice during most of the service), in Corinth the assemblies were often chaotic, with many brothers and sisters shouting out in tongues and others giving prophesy, with multiple voices interrupting each other. Paul’s concern was that outsiders visiting the gatherings for the first time would perceive this as madness or bedlam and would not be persuaded to follow Christ or even to return to the next gathering. Conversion requires a presentation of the Gospel in a language the visitor can understand. So unless the tongues were immediately interpreted, the others in the gathering would have no idea what was being proclaimed."

No one has ever become a Christian by a "vision" of Jesus. Without *hearing* the biblical gospel, no one becomes a Christian. Later I read Paul who said if my spirit prays my mind will be also free to pray, I thought this would prove what had happened was from the Lord and not the enemy, I started to speak tongues but my mind was clear, I felt it was reverent worship and not unorderly, of course I was doing all this on my own, and not in public worship....also, I don't often pray that way, it's not something to put on or force in public. For me it's more about my private worship....Mantle of Elijah, for me also, as you say. When Paul said I determined to know nothing among you apart from Christ and him crucified. Jesus tells his disciples that anyone can do what he has done Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. John 14:12 NIV And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.” Mark 16:15-18 ESV We should not ignore his words and call him a liar. If we do, why are we still worshiping him. Pauls letter said to desire the spiritual gifts : Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy. 1 Corinthians 14:1 NIV And to those you think that the spiritual gifts were only for apostle's should review Jesus words on the first two verses posted and this : “Master,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.” “Do not stop him,” Jesus said, “for whoever is not against you is for you.” Luke 9:49-50 NIV Some people experience fake prophets, fake exisists, face healers, and face paranormal investigators, but they should look into what scripture says instead of experience alone. Experience alone would sometimes draw them away from Christianity

Full cessationism is wrong. As is the false manifestations of the Spirit. Patrick, you open eyes unequally to the scriptures, letting the bias of your hardened heart towards those who spake in the name of the Lord falsely guide your beliefs (worldy bias Rom 12:2). How does the Holy Spirit testify to us? Jn (15:26) How does He guide us into all truth, and TELL us what He has heard from Christ? (Jn 16:13) If you say, "Jesus was speaking specifically to the disciples on this." Sure, that is correct. But then you would have to say all other things He commanded the disciples to do was only for them and not us. (Jn 15:12-14) The Lord chastens those whom He loves. I have seen the calamity of false teaching and false preaching, false prophecy, gibberish speaking. But full on cessationism is the consequence. I compel you to search the scriptures with a heart softened towards the Spirits direction. There are true manifestations of God's Holy Spirit. Walking in truth (the Word) and spirit (Holy Spirit) requires that you acknowledge His presence in you. Remember this, it is CHRIST'S SPIRIT! (Rom 8:9-16). Not separate but the same Spirit, God's Spirit! If you can't understand, then your faith in the Word is overcrowded by your biased interpretation of it! Remain of a soft heart for the word of God and the Spirt that dwell in you! In Jesus name I bless all who read. With love from your brother in Christ. RH

"Cessationism is a doctrine that spiritual gifts such as speaking in tongues, prophecy, and healing ceased with the Apostolic Age. The doctrine was developed in the reformation and is particularly associated with the Calvinists. More recent development has tended to focus on other spiritual gifts too, owing to the advent of Pentecostalism and the Charismatic movement that have popularised continuationism, the position that the spiritual gifts are meant for all Christians in every age." There Google answered me and others that might have wondered. Well now I know I can't listen to you, especially if part of being a cessasionist is to claim "healing" also ended because that is a lie! The same Holy Spirit that gives tongues also gives the gift of healing. My own son was literally brought back from death's door through prayer and healed! The gifts of the Holy Spirit is still active because the Holy Spirit is still on earth and brings glory to Christ through His work. I’m one- felt the Holy Spirit fill me up & was immediately delivered from a 7 year addiction to opiates and benzodiazepines, NO WITHDRAWAL & no struggle to stay clean. That was in 2017. Still clean & seeking more of God.

@loudan7995 I grew up Baptist, was there for my first 18 years and have been Pentecostal for over 20 years now. As a Baptist, I was never taught that miracles never happen, but they are fewer and far between than what many people think. Miracles by their nature are infrequent, not everyday or "normal". I suppose I would describe myself as a "conservative" Pentecostal if there is such a thing. Many of the Pentecostal churches I've attended or seen online focuses on the gifts of the Holy Spirit, especially tongues, and a lesser focus on theology, doctrine and evangelizing the lost. This is a focus on self and what God can give us, this also describes a lot of today's "worship" music. The gifts are important, but we should worship the giver of the gifts, not the gifts themselves. There should be a balance between the gifts and teaching the congregation about theology and doctrine.

Is it not biblical to pray to the Spirit of God?

Mark 16:17 - 18 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.” Joel 2:28 - 29 And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.

@tshepo7904 Yes, I agree with you. That's what makes the video so bad in my opinion. He states at the beginning why he became a cessationist and that it was based on Scripture, but then talks all about his experience and then follows it up with a very bad Biblical argument for cessationism. Which actually wasn't a Biblical argument at all.

Pastor Hines, will you please do a video on WCF question 91? How can we understand the language as not meaning that baptism is what saves us? The wording sounds like thats what its saying in the answer.

I go to a PCA church so I don’t know about a lot of his stuff, but I’ve heard people say these Pentecostals run the aisles and stuff. I never knew that meant so you’re actually saying they’re actually running up and down the aisles in the sanctuary of the church has hysterical. I think I would’ve been frightened.

What worries me is when people are casting demons out of believers who are indwelt with the Holy Spirit. This is as close to blasphemy as you can get it. The Lord Jesus may say to them get away from me I never knew you. But Lord didn't we cast out demons in your name. May the Lord have mercy on their souls.

I'm sorry you had these experiences but there are solid Pentecostal/charismatic churches that preach the Word of God, and call sinners to repentance. I appreciate the scholarship of my Calvinist brothers and sisters. I think we need each other as 1 Corinthians 12 says. I wish we didn't have to be so divided on this issue. I recommend the book "Evangelical, Sacramental, Pentecostal, Why the Church Should Be All Three " by Gordon T Smith. The Bible has a lot to say about unity, also. The Brownsville revival was all about repentance. Many people came to Christ during that revival.

why are there 2500 christians sects in just the USA? why can't God just tell us the truth on what to believe? It's a vERY human church. apparently unity is not something He cares about.

Don't deny the truth just because of all the false stuff that is going on, I am not charismatic even though I go to one, the reason I go to one is because there is truth there, it is both word and spirit working together
