All day everyday. Learning speed to gear ratios over a few months lets you ride without ever looking at what gear you're in, but there is no replacement for an accurate fuel indicator. Average trip calculations only work with average riding, but lets say you've been hard at it lately, you will have no idea how much is actually left until the light flashes. Fuel gauges are a must on all bikes, especially in 2020. ffs Honda, why go back on this.

Yall weird, I would MUCH rather see my fuel gage that my gears. 1 down 5 up isn't too difficult to remember. If im going long distance and forget what gear im in, I just shift up until I hit 6th which only usually 1 or 2 more up. Its way less convenient than having to open my gas tank every time I ride to physically look inside the tank to figure out if I have enough fuel to get to where im going or not

While I have looked at all your videos, and like your insight, I want to re-share something from your videos that is way more important in my opinion than all the little details. Having owned 37 motorcycles, and currently have 3 in my garage, none of which are currently sportbikes, I have decided to pick up a 2020 CBR600RR tomorrow, brand new, no miles even though it hasn't won a shootout in more than a decade. First and formost is, the comfort aspect. Having ridding over 1 million miles in my lifetime on a motorcycle, I appreciate comfort to ride all day, and multiple days, over how a bike feels for the first couple hours on the road. I bought my first CRB600 back in 1994, and rode it up and down the coast and central mountains of California more times than I can remember with a smile on my face every time i got on it. Second, I have never had any sort of bike failures on any Honda I have owned, and I am definitely not a "Honda Fan", as they are usually not my choice when looking at the overall line of bikes. I sat on all the new 600's and my least favorite was the Kawasaki, because my wrists hurt, just sitting on it on the showroom floor. The Honda had the best ergonomics, as I am 6'1" and 215 lbs. with long legs. The Suzuki was second best, but the seat was hard as a rock. The Yamaha was just to cramped for my overall size. Reliability is a big plus compared to the European brands, mostly in the electronics, and the 2020 model from Honda is the last year of the old electronics, which means that there is a ton of aftermarket performance and styling features available. I am close with the guys at Dynojet, and every time a manufacturer has updated their ECU's, due to emissions, noise, and safety requirements from the EPA, they have issues, and the bikes are almost unhackable. Bench tuning seems to be taking the place of aftermarket tuners in both cars and bikes. Which voids the warranty, and god forbid you have to take the bike into a dealer for service and he plugs it into the factory computer, and wipes away your custom tune, just to fix a simple little idiot light issue. At $2K less than a 2021, which they are not dealing on, since Covid, and production stoppages, and the cost of containers from overseas going up 4X what they were at the beginning of 2020, these bikes will price themselves out of the market. Fortunately, at my age, insurance rates are not what they were in my 20"s. A 22 year old (which I know well) had to sell his 600cc sportbike, because his insurance was $350/month, which is more than a bike payment in that price range. The other features I like about the 2020, is the fuel gauge, which disappeared for 2021. Being used to long trips, and planning out gas stops, knowing your fuel levels, as you pass towns and remote gas stations in the middle of nowhere, you get an idea that when your gauge is a 1/4 tank, and you see a station out in the boonies, you stop and fill up. Also, I have had serious VCM glitches with my fully electronic gauges, with all the ride mode, traction control, abs, and multi screen units, on my current Indian Challenger, my previous Ducati Mulistrada, Triumph Tiger, and KTM Adventure bike. Why the motorcycle manufacturers cannot build in completely reliable electronic dash boards like the auto manufacturers is beyond me. Maybe the heat and vibration, and compact size create issues you don't have in a car or truck. So back to the 600. After graduating to the 1000cc class with my next 2 sportbikes from Suzuki, then back to Honda, I found that the 1000's were just too much overkill in power, and got me freaked out too many times coming into corners too hot, because the accelleration is so quick, you hardly have time to think. The 600 with it's light weight and good brakes allows fast corner entries with mid corner corrections possible, as well as feeling fast coming out of the corner, while not actually going that fast. Remember, this is the street, not the track. And there is gravel and debris, and you are not really racing anyone (except maybe a buddy that you are just messing with). So any thoughts on my mindset or my decision are welcome!
@HooligansMx3 жыл бұрын
I for the most part 100% agree!! It annoys me that with all these videos on cbr600s everybody gets soooo hung up on the emissions stuff out into these bikes now failing to realize that aftermarket support is huge especially if the bike no longer has a warranty it is not hard to find catless downpipes/headers programmable ecus etc my buddy has a 2020 and he really didn't care about the warranty and went ahead and pretty much eliminated anything to do with emissions on his bike it sounds amazing and he absolutely smokes my 2007 600. So ok you have to spend a little more money to get the power out of the 600s than you used to because of the emissions stuff when everyone should just be happy the us isn't as strict as Europe when it comes to bikes

I think the additional rider aids will make it a much better bike package. It certainly looks better and I was also surprised with Honda keeping the under seat exhaust and not finally changing it to something like the 1000. The 18 lbs? Really won’t make a difference as I’m sure they will have it in the right place (a small trade for higher tech). The indicators, you have a valid point however like the “weight” those things are removed when the thing is stripped down, all lights removed, stock fairings changed for far lighter ones for its ultimate purpose. To win on the race track! The increase to the rev limiter will help that and it never about which bikes make more power anyway. Traction control/anti wheelie is something to argue about. Is it needed on a bike that doesn’t really make much torque? I don’t know about you but if your sitting on a starting grid at full rpm 2 seconds before the lights turn green, the difference on getting a good start and bad can make a huge difference in where you finish. Overall the bikes gets a big thumbs up from me! I would have it over the 1000 mainly because who really can get anywhere near what that bike is capable of achieving. I like how this generation CBR600rr is aesthetically similar to the 1000rr which has been aesthetically improved since 2017. I never liked the looks of the CBR1000rr from 2008 to 2016 while the CBR600rr still looked great. The 1000rr looked awesome before 2008 and basically matched the look of the 600, but from 2008 to 2016, they went with that big round front end with the small tail section and boring bodywork throughout on the 1000. Finally, the 600 looks like the 1000 again, which is good because the 1000 looks good again.

For street riders, the weight doesn't matter. You may think it does, but it doesn't. If anything it might make it more comfortable and stable on the road. As far as gas gauge, IMO you don't need one. A tripometer is the best gas gauge ever made. Gear indicator? I don't need one. I have been riding for 40 years and never thought to myself, man I wish I had a gear indicator! Cornering ABS? I don't want it. For one thing, how are suppose to learn how to use the proper brake control and body position if your bike is making adjustments for you? Two if it's not working properly, how would you know? If it has flaw or intermittent glitch, what's that going to do for? Three If your getting away with some poor riding habits and the bike compensating for it, what going to happen if you hop on a bike that doesn't have it, or is configured differently? You may not have skills and experience to figure it out for yourself. And that's my opinion on regular ABS as well. I know it can keep a rider from going down when they don't have good brake control, but how are you suppose to learn to do it right yourself? Just my opinion.
@garrettallman38324 жыл бұрын
Exactly what I was thinking. Half of these people don't know how to ride properly on the track and none of the things they have added will really help anyone learn. And the nitpicking of the small aesthetic choices that Honda made makes me laugh because everyone just throws some chinese turn signals and mirrors on anyway lol. Its seems like a lot of riders that I meet today are just buying bikes solely off of HP numbers and how they look, and all just so they can go ride them on the highway and not use any of the actual capabilities of the bike. And I also dont understand the gear indicator debacle. Yes it is nice to have but damn if you cant tell what gear your in while riding then you probably shouldnt be on a CBR600 in the first place. It just seems that all of the young guys are buying sport bikes just to put it on instagram and tag it "bike life yo" and never truly learn any mechanics of riding. I think this is a big reason why companies just cant sell anymore and the whole motorcycle industry is hurting.
@markjackson76504 жыл бұрын
Honestly comments like this make me glad that manufacturers don't listen to knuckle draggers. There is not a single logical reason not to want abs on a road bike. It literally makes the bike safer tenfold as it allows you to brake as hard the bike can at any given moment. Instead of just locking up and spitting you off. Even the pros get it wrong from time to time so what chance does an everyday rider have of never making a mistake their whole life two wheels.
@garrettallman38324 жыл бұрын
@@markjackson7650 Well manufacturers do listen to the community somewhat. All the changes to yamahas bikes are a result of track riders and MotoGp testing. Those bikes are great and the corner abs units are excellently engineered pieces of kit. But you do not need this for street riding whatsoever. You are right it does make the bike safer and I feel more comfortable having abs on a bike especially in bad weather conditions. But the new mid corner abs systems that are coming out are really not necessary, and you shouldnt push that hard on the street anyway. Im not saying get rid of it, but talk to any track veteran and they will say the same thing: you learn by experience and if you never experience the sensation of slipping in a corner at speed, then you will not be prepared for when it inevitably happens. The difference between the pros and an everyday rider is that the pro most likely started on dirt with absolutely zero traction control or abs. They apply this to the track and get better. The new sportbikes coming out arent "road bikes" either, they are designed for the track and that has been the focus of the engineering behind them for the last decade.
@markjackson76504 жыл бұрын
@@garrettallman3832the road is where rider aids make the most sense. Road riding is not about being able to push hard and test your skill against other riders. Its about enjoying your bike at a comfortable and safe pace along with other road users. Abs on a road bike is to allow you to stop or slow down if a situation arises when you are leaning over mid corner. Granted even with abs if you have to brake hard mid corner you're probably still going down. But you stand a far better chance with it. After all riding on the street is all about enjoying your bike safely not just your safety but the safety of other road users. No matter who you are at some point you'll run out of skill and if abs can save you in those moments then it's worth its weight in gold. Anyone who can't underrated that is brain dead knuckle dragger that shouldn't be near a bike on the road.
@will2461-j2n4 жыл бұрын
I do agree that everyone should be able to to ride a bike without the need of aids but that doesn't mean having them is bad thing. Abs could save you sliding on a manhole in the dark.

Sorry hate on me all you want but. I had a 2010 hyosung gt250r. Loved that bike. All the features on that bike were perfect. I like the look of the metal panted tank. I hate the look of plastic molded over the tank. Just shape the tank to match the lines of the bike. Throttle by cable and very basic electronics. Analog tax and a digital speedo, Absolutely perfect combination. And the look of the duel break calibers were on point. It was a 250 v twin, Yes a v twin. It’s power was always there at any point in the rev range. But y can’t a 600 be that simple. A simple gauge cluster, basic electronics and a look that is simple in design but look beautiful.

As a 2014 cbr 600 double r owner I would say that the 2014 model aka 3rd generation is better due to weight and the new things are cool enough to add that much weight to the bike .. Thank you for your video. I have to agree with all your remarks about this new RR model. Honestly I don't understand what Honda is doing or planning to do. In the latest years all I see (in Europe, at least) is seeing Honda running after the Adventure segment trying to take a piece of the BMW Adventure market with the Africa Twin and not much more than that. I love Honda bikes, but if I had to buy a new bike, I probably wouldn't buy any Honda. I don't feel "represented" in their current catalog. You mentioned corner ABS and the fact is that all Euro bikes have it from Aprilia to KTM. Despite Euro brands call it by their brand names, it all sums up to Bosch MSC system. I think I would even risk and buy an Aprilia or Ducati. I know that they are not as reliable or even cheaper to maintain as a Honda, but... Even today I saw the new Aprilia RS600 and she's a beauty. Expensive, as well, but looks very good and with top components. You should take a look into it. Honda using an old engine is killing the 600RR, like they did with the VFR 800F, IMHO
@techo614 жыл бұрын
I agree wholeheartedly on the front indicators and housing them in the mirrors would have been cheaper. As for the fuel gauge, I've never seen an accurate one so a light is enough (in fact even no light works for me, turn the tap to reserve then you're focused on the next stop). 428lbs for a 2021nmodel 600, WOW! My 2003 CBR954RR is lighter, I don't understand why is Honda is going backwards, all the new electronics can't weigh that much sureely?

I honestly think that Honda ought to use the chassis from the CBR600 along with a 700-900cc engine (with around 120 hp) for a middle weight naked bike as well. They’d get a ton more for their R&D money and it’s a class where Honda is absent for some reason. Yeah, I know they’ve got the CB650R, but no one who’s in the market for something along the line of a MT09 or Z900 is even going to consider the Honda.
