Best Hot hatch at the price point, and will give cars twice its price a surprise. Get it lowered, add the LSD, stage one remap and you will have 440bhp under your right foot 😎. Hope your enjoying the B58, one of the best engines around today!

So much negativity towards the last of the 3L, 6cyl, RWD hatch..🧐 I’d take this over the boring and slower 2L, 4 pot, AWD options everyday; Golf R, A35 etc Zzzzzz 😴 this ticks all boxes and is a proper drivers car, not for everyone I guess but congrats buddy! From experience easy mods to improve the ride and aesthetics even further, lower on eibachs, spacers, underbody brace. Remap easily achieve 430+bhp and you’re winning 👌🏼

Still can’t stop thinking this is just a sideways step. You test drove some Proper performance cars ( A45 & RS3 ) could have even got an M2 which are reasonably affordable. A step up would have been a proper M car.. these things look proper bland too. Coulda just kept the R, had it mapped it it’s easily a much more capable car 🤷‍♂️

I commented on your other video and just wanted to say again, you won’t regret buying one of these mate, they’re fuckin awesome cars. The Golf R is a really really good capable car that’s fast point to point and they look decent. But they’re not in the same league as an M140i. They just aren’t. They’re not as fast, don’t sound as good, no where near as much fun. They’re so exciting to drive, I’ve had mine nearly a year and I still get excited when I drive it. You’ll soon see it for yourself.

Nice choice and colour. To those saying get an M2, I’ve owned my M140i for 2.5 years from new and have just test driven the M2 and it’s nothing overly spectacular as a fast road car against the 140. Enjoy the car 👍

Totally agree, the stock looking car looks dull but there is something addictive about the 3L, 350hp with 500nm torque. The B58 engine has enormous potential and if done right becomes an absolute rocket, with more potential still in reserve!!!

Mind you these modern cars with traction are probably a lot safer. I’ve pretty much had imprezas for the last 20 years (with the odd Evo/skyline etc)

Bought one a few months ago it’s rained everyday. Wrong time of the year for this car but I highly doubt you would end up in a tree on the side of the road. I floor mine all the time in the rain. Scares the hell out of passengers, so could end a relationship or two but you just have to come to terms with that. I won’t be taking my mum out in it anytime soon. Can’t wait to see you floor it

Gonna miss my 140i when the time comes to change soon. As your drag video shows, it can utterly pump RS3s A45s. when rolling, which is real world. RWD, big power, torque and so much fun. I hate the new 135i, but I know they have a new 140i in the pipeline, so that will be interesting to see what it brings.

Its a nice car, I prefer the R but I am biased in that regard as I have an R. Still good to see other cars being featured and apart from mapping the R not much more you could do really for content. I still think the A45 or RS3 would be what id call an upgrade over the R but ofc insurance, running costs etc will also be more so the BMW is a good move for a different experience.

I think that's a nice choice of car. That M140 hatch is something we can't get in the states. Have to admit I was a bit disappointed when you ditched the R. I have the same R here in the states except mines manual. Have to love a 6yr/72m warranty. Sadly it keeps me from modding the car. Enjoy the 140, I have an e91 and an e88 at the house as well...

Aron Murphy makes no difference, people will still buy the new 1 series simply because its new then the market will get flooded with them yet again and the prices will drop yet again. The only models that dont drop and will always be desired are proper M cars. Just like audi’s RS range, the focus rs and so on. If i were him, id have bought an even cheaper low mileage 16 plate to take less of a financial hit in the near future

Mods you should get in this order LSD Good tyres(ps4s work vest with these cars) Upgrade your brakes(steel lines and pads) Underbody brace if you dont have one yet M4 Lower control arms and tension struts Then you can do stage 2, exhaust etc I personally advice getting gearbox remapped with xhp map stage 2 or stage 3 works wonders along with stage 2 engine map I recommend bm3 I must be honest, these cars are not the best at handling when stock, few simple mods transform these cars so much There are numerous evidences of people beating M cars on the track such as M2 or M4 which people say are so much better which is not the case

I usually drive mine in DSC OFF mode and I can barley get the back to slide (probably because I've been driving RWD for 5 years now so I might just be tuned to being careful) unless I am really hammering the throttle and going insane. Don't worry its not as scary as people make it out to be. To go into DSC OFF just hold the traction button down until you get DSC OFF on the dash (should be about 5 secs)

I would defiantly recommend trying to source an upgrade to the professional navigation/infotainment system. Didn't have it on my old bmw but I do on my current car. Makes so much diffence in everyday use and helps with bringing the very old style interior from around about 2013 up to modern standards.

Love mine. It does all I need it too; boring stuff and the fun stuff are just dealt with. RWD cars are fine these days with better tyres, traction systems etc....none of the three I’ve had have killed me. Just don’t treat the throttle like an on/off switch. Running costs seem amazingly cheap given the performance on offer. I looked at a Golf R but I found it dull. For me the ZF8 is better than the DSG, the driving position is better, it sounds better etc.

I have to say I've watched the last few videos on the various test drives you did from Churchs and was convinced the A45 was the one you'd go for as you seemed bowled over by it. I understand you get a newer car for your money and the rear wheel drive fun factor is a contributor, and for me the next major step in that direction would have been the M2. Although it is more money, from experience of driving both vehicles it is far more car! Each to their own, its a lovely car, very capable and I look forward to seeing you develop and modify it as time goes on.

Good for you, get a car you want, change is good, need to try a few to have an option about what suits best. Thought depreciation is a thing to consider, seen a low mile 2018 140i for under £20k locally and did consider, but have a Focus RS and still happy with that for now. The M140i is a great car - for the engine. Take away the engine and what’s left to shout about? Of course the B58 is fantastic but there’s more to a car than just it’s engine. Does this make it a one trick pony? There are already comments about swapping the diff, changing suspension taking it to Motech or whatever. Is it that bad? You don’t really need to do any of this with a Golf R as it’s a great package straight out the box. The Golf R isn’t as powerful, but sometimes less is more 🙂 IMO RWD is subjective and doesn't make it a "better" car, depends on whether the driver thinks its better for them. I've had a couple of powerful RWD cars and TBH this time of the year I get bored not being able to get the power down. A 500bhp RWD car turns into a 300bhp car throughout the winter, cold and damp as it struggles for traction. In the summer its a different story of course. Also, why so much emphasis on the heated seats? Nothing new as you had them standard in the Golf, right? 😉

Rob T fantastic mate, if you haven’t got then go for a test drive! I swapped my 2018 S3 because it was night and day! They gave me a 430d while having a 6 week service and that was garbage compared to the new G20! The handling is unreal and the interior has massively stepped up 👍

Baffles me why there was never a 19" alloy option. 18s look tiny! Personally the R is the car I'd buy out of the two especially after exhaust you fitted. The m140 needs 19s, Carbon interior, pro nav, silver blacking out on the exterior and an exhaust to start

I wouldn't worry too much about wet weather driving, you'll find it surprisingly capable. The traction control works well too, allows a bit of slip then your straight again. Just did a weekend in Somerset enjoying long sweeping national speed limit roads in the wet, no issues. I had a Golf R last year, I find the M140 gives a more "natural" driving experience. I got the 3 door, you get frameless doors and if you double click the unlock button the window drops for easy access in tight spaces.

Still think it's a sideways and bizarre step. The M140i is a great mechanical package, maybe not as technically advanced as a GolfR, but the exterior of the 1 series is so drab. It's has though got better over the years. Personally I think the GolfR interior fit and finish is better than a 1 or even 3 series BMW (their nowhere close to an Audi A4/5). But I think the 1 series, X1 etc are pitched at the brand snobs who don't want a Ford, SEAT, VW or Renault on their drive.

I Am Mr Archer apart from they’re not actually too bad to maintain. Tyres are cheap even for PS4’s etc, servicing with the service pack is cheap, VED is £140 per year, there’s not really an specific parts.

Yep still don't get it. It's not as pretty as the R and that interior seems dull in comparison. It may have won your hot hatch test but those results could swap on most days. The R just feels the more secure beast going through the corners regardless of surface or speed. However, I enjoy your channel. Have fun with the new car.

Last proper drivers car in this segment, if you don't at least try one let alone own one then you are missing out. All cars loose money and all are mass produced so loads about at the moment. If you hold onto it then it will seem far more special in a few years than a generic 2 litre half arsed 4 wheel drive Golf R or Mercedes, or dare I say it, the new BMW 135i.

The reason to buy this car was that it was the fastest in a drag race.....seems rather silly, there is more to a car that straight line speed. The 140i is just a pig in damp conditions, probably the reason why there are so many forsale that are categorised. I considered the 140i before I bought my s3, it's just not as usuable for daily use imo and I found it extremely twitchy when pressing on....plus the s3 is much nicer place to sit and more premium imo

Would've loved an m140i but insursnce was astronomical for me so I had to get an S1 but would've loved the sound of a 6 cylinder

I absolutely agree. I also love my M140i with its for me incredible sound during starting it. Greetings from Germany. :-)
