I love the way Vietnamese people respect their ancestors. I was in Vietnam in September with my bạn gái to visit her family and every single relative or friend we visited had a huge, beautiful altar honouring their ancestors. Such a beautiful tradition! Also at mealtimes we'd often put an extra bowl and pair of chopsticks on the table so they could eat too

As a foreigner living and working in a Tibetan monastery being built outside of Đà Lạt, it was interesting to learn about Vietnamese rituals, and to hear your reflections on learning about them. Although, I myself, as a deeply engaged Tibetan Buddhist for many years, also, do a lot of rituals and prayers, I sometimes, due to my western academic and scientific background, question their efficacy, as well. Still, I think your reflection that it brings you closer to your mother and your culture is a valid and poignant one; and I would say, they bring a certain level of peace and mindfulness to one's life as well. Thank you for your videos on Vietnamese culture and best of luck on your spiritual journey!

Hi Van, love your vids. I was first in nam in 92 and bought lacquerware of Fuk Lok Sau (Phúc Lộc Thọ). When I hung them, I put them in the wrong order and Sau was in the middle. I sh t you not, sitting there watching TV and Sau flew off the wall. But the clip was still fixed. I put him on the right side and 20min later he flew off the wall from the new position. The same clips were still fixed, and the lacquerware is quite heavy, so it had to be raised to get off the hook. Suffice to say, both my Chinese and Vietnamese friends all told me to get out of the house after that

I despite being a Science, Literature, and Engineering Student, I was at some points made to kneel down upon the predictions made by the soothsayer or the fortune teller. Henceforth I started believing the core values of religion and predictions. My zodiac is Leo and later I knew that if our horoscope is written as per exact time of birth, day, month, position of stars-planets etc., what the fire tellers say turn out to be true. Again I appreciated your mom for performing on behalf of your well-being and prosperity. Hard to find such respected mom Wishing your every success in your life.

Lol hey Van this video is super relatable to me right now. I’ve been in Vietnam for 6 weeks now and heading back home next week. When I was staying at cousins house they had the same type of alter. Actually all of my relatives have an alter like this and more. I actually went to get my fortune told too. I went to a Buddhist temple to sinh xăm. I’m not sure if I spelled that correctly but it’s where you go to pray and shake a can of fortune sticks until one falls out. And then use that stick to get it interpreted by a fortune teller person. Lol but yeah I saw this video and saw it as super relatable. I hope your luck turns around and everything gets better for you! ✊🏼 And it would be super cool to meet you one day if you ever host meetups in Vietnam. Take care!

Hi Van, thank you so much for the many videos about the Vietnamese culture. The videos are interesting and it makes me feel good to watch them! I am not really superstitious, but I do believe in the Law of Attraction. This law says that what you focus on (the most), that is what you get. For example, if you really try to see the positive side of your business and if you are grateful for your business, the chances are greater that you will take some sort of action that will improve your business. I wish you good luck!

Hi Van, I'm old enough to understand exactly what you are going through. My current situation is ten times worst than yours. I won't say whether I agree or disagree all the rituals they performed at your home. I once went into a furniture store in VN, I wanted to get some furniture, but the owner and the employee completely ignored me. It was (early) morning and they were in the middle of some ritual to ask God to bless them with many customers for the day. Hello? I'm a customer. I need some furniture, i'm ready and willing to buy. It was kinda comical how they ignored me while I sat and waited patiently. I can't give you any advice, but I do know there are four seasons in a year. And this too, whatever it is, shall pass. You are young, beautiful, talented. You have a bright future. (...i don't fight a losing battle)

Wow! Sorry that happened to you chi! and thank you for your kind words!!

I personally take it this way: How the store staffs treated you has nothing to do with who you are. It is simply because they are in the middle of a ritual, that THEY believe in and practice on a regular basis. This mean that the ritual require some physical, mental (and probably spiritual too) focus. Think it like when someone is talking to another person about something important. You don't just want to cut into their conversation right? Therefore, if I were in your shoes, I would not get too upset about that. Sending you some happiness your way and hope you get goos news soon!

Did you bring any antiques or previously owned items in the house? Bad luck or spirits attach to items. Feng Shui wise do you live in a dead end street or a near a place of worship? If you do it will cause relationship and financial problems.
