I think the reason we stutter when saying our name is because we cannot used any other word. We cannot use a word that is easier to say like we do other times.
@tuckertootsie96394 жыл бұрын
How about when you have orientation and have to stand up and announce your name and say something about yourself in a room full of people. I actually say a different name and pretend it’s a nickname rather than take the shame of the hard block.
@jmusg33 жыл бұрын
I think its almost like the anticipation of stuttering on your name that builds up the anxiety. The less we are affraid of our stutter the less it will happen because the pressure will be off
@williammunoz7446 жыл бұрын
I’ve thought of a solution to this. Become a famous person like the president or an actress. Then when you walk in the room everyone knows your name boom you don’t have to say your name.

I also stutter since i was 5. Now I am 21. At university teachers ask my name and I block and can't say for a minute. And teachers say "do you forget your name?" And I think I seem foolish. That's absolutely frustrating.

I was caught once in such awkward moments and, not knowing how to come out of the silence quickly I threw out just an entirely different name, because Anthony in that moment would come out more smoothly than my real name, Robert. It was a very humiliating morning - mind that I'm a mild stutterer, but saying my name remains a tragedy. Greetings to all.

I stuttered my whole life. What helped me and stuttered less was that avoid any sweet food or sweet drinks. And, don't drink coffee due to a caffeine. This is because of your body chemical. It seems these stuff make your body tense and it will make you stutter even more.

The one and biggest problem is saying my name. The worst one is at work, when you have to do introductions in large groups. Hate it. You have to say your name, quickly and you can't say it when you want to.

I have the same problem, I avoid Starbucks or places where I know they will ask my name, but that is not a solution of course. My name begins with a vowel, so I have found that saying "I meric" works well and sounds the same as "I'm Eric", again not a cure, but it helps me out. Your videos are great, I admire you, and you are very beautiful, keep up the great work.

Hey! I have the same problem. One of the most frequent letters I stutter on or get blocks on is S and both my first name and surname start with the letter S... If I meet new people and I struggle saying my name they sometimes say “Did you have to think about that?” It’s kind of annoying and a bit frustrating but I try to not let it bother me. Glad I’m not the only one!

so, i go to speech therapy and have been for a while now. i know some people may have opinions on whether or not the therapies work, but it does. the techniques that you learn in speech therapy have to be used in the outside world as well. i have to introduce and say my name a lot because 1. because have trouble pronouncing my name 2. i have to check in to lots of appointments and stuff because im an adult. (20 years old). i have to introduce myself on the first day of college courses, when i order at a place and i may have to give my name (chik fil a, etc.) so what i have found that has helped is saying "my name is (insert your name)..." another one is taking a deep breath along with name. breathe it out almost. also, dont think too much. because i still have times where i stutter on my name like "mmmmmmalikah." so sometimes i have a prolonged m. but, lately since i have took techniques out of my speech therapy, i have done really well with it. also, i hate when people used tell me to slow down when im stuttering (my family used to tell me to slow down when they saw how i had blocks and stuff). But im so serious, slow down. dont think you ever have a time limit when speaking to people. relax a little. thats something that has helped me a lot. i spoke this helps some of you. great video!

Whenever I get asked my name I look down at the ground and pause, then look back up in a dramatic way with big eyes and sing my name. Good way to make people think you have good humor. I have another good technique I figured out myself but I'd have to record it cause it's difficult for me to textually explain.

Hi, I know that some time passed after releasing the video, but that shaking you mentioned is something I experience too and I can not explain it... It happens when I try to speak fluently about something and I actually do speak fluently. I dont know now if it depends on the topic I am talking about, but most of the time it happened, I talked about something and my brain actually felt that I have the attention of the people I was talking to... Then the weird shaking started, first I thought that it cant be seen for them, that only I feel this but there was this one time when I was talking to my father and uncles and they were listening. As I started shaking, my uncle asked me if I am cold. I realized then, that it is something other people see too.

Take pause if the sentence is long. Break and breath between long sentences. Don't hurry to complete the sentences, think and speak. Articulation at the starting of a sentence also helps. I also stutter. 😀 From India

Teah always keep up with your singing. Why I say this is singing actually can build up muscles in your throat and larynx. If you're stuttering right now you may not be later. These muscles will keep your larynx in place and minimize the shaking as you age. I was at a retreat and my stuttering friend was there also. Nearly the whole weekend I was there she spoke real fluently. We sing tons of songs when we go there (christian) so that's why I pass on this tip.

If you have to say something concrete, such as name, adress, phone number and if you had always problem with those, you will feel yourself under pressure, which will disturb your exhale rate.Just exercise these with airflow and try outside and at phone.

What’s your Instagram? I can’t find you :( I had a really bad day at uni today. It’s so annoying because I seem to be able to talk really well recently and tend to not be stammering on many words. But for the life of me I can never introduce myself and say my name. I know I’m going to have to endure introductions for my whole life so it really scares me to think of the experiences I’m going to have to endure. The teacher asked me my name today and I said it in the end but only after stammering quite badly :( When someone new came into work the other day he shook my hand and said his name was Tom and I was that scared to say my name I just said ‘nice to meet you’. People probably think it’s so strange when you behave like this but they could never know the inner turmoil you’re going through just over saying your name! In another class I could sense the teacher was going to ask my name again in groups, I got so tense I just got up and left. It’s hell :(
