I cannot, for the life of me, fall for the Apple/Mac meme. They are the worst of all worlds for an extra premium.
Here I talk about what pisses me off about the Mac way of software and crappy Apple hardware. Also why people still insist on swearing by Apple/Mac.

Not surprising tbh. KZbin is a complete shithole these days. I just wish more of my favorite youtubers would move to Odysee. But, I do have to say that you probably shouldn't be so political, and portray everybody and everything that isn't crap as a "republican" or a "trump voter" and vice versa. Either make political videos or tech videos, and instead of just shitting on anything politically opposite, provide reasoning instead or just don't talk about it.

Linux is actually much better than Windows for people who only use a computer to browse the internet, look at pictures etc. (usually old people) because you don't have to worry about them downloading malware, being confused by antivirus popups, updates and similar inconveniences. Also, you could get away with buying a cheaper machine for them without having Windows eat all the resources just for spyware. Bonus points: install Brave for them to protect them from popups.

I asked, what cpu and graphics card does it have inside. He said, I don't know but it's good. This is an example of a lot of first and second time Macbook owners. Brand hunting in my opinion. I, too, work at a University---in the IT department, even---and the points you make after the 11:30 mark are absolutely true. The individuals who sit in certain pay grades _must_ always have Apple hardware for everything they do (and _must_ upgrade it every year), even if the primary business functions require the use of a Windows machine (like our ERP, for example). One such individual, who happens to sit at the President's table, once claimed that we should just get rid of all the non-Apple hardware on campus because then everything would "just work" and there woudn't be a need for IT anymore. Yeah....and we're somehow the pleebs because we choose to avoid Apple. If only that individual knew how many dollars and man-hours have been spent (and are continually spent) making sure the Apple garbage can actually somewhat function in this business environment... And before any fanboys decide to take a crack at me, I used iMacs as my primary work desktop for 3 years (ditched that habit). I've carried both a MacBook Air and Pro as a secondary machine since 2014 (though the Pro just collects dust now as it's been replaced with a Surface Pro). My work cell is an iPhone. I've personally owned various iPod models since 2006. I have an iPad (provided through work) that's sitting at home collecting dust, has no charge, and no practical use in my life. Clearly, I have an informed dislike toward Apple and am not just some random hater for the sake of it.

I'm a graphic designer and software developer. I had a 2008 aluminium MacBook that I upgraded everything that it let me upgrade, which was the RAM and hard drive. I upgraded to 16GB RAM and a 256GB SSD. Then, when it wouldn't upgrade to MacOS Sierra, I was mad. I did my design work on that device, but development, I did with Visual Studio and GameMaker: Studio (for game development) on an old Windows Acer desktop that I used to run my 3D printer and some other tech things. I then looked into the new MacBook Pro's and then when I discovered just how overpriced they were, looked into a new Mac Pro. Then, finding how overpriced they were, I looked to building my own computer, with which I discovered I could build a computer for around $800.00 that was equivalent to a $2,000 Mac Pro. I then installed Windows 10 and was able to successfully use just one device for my design and development needs. And everything else, too. That was the moment I became angry with Mac. XCode is usable, but not if you want to make software for Windows AND Mac. XCode makes Mac software, but why would you go to all that trouble to make a piece of software when only about 10% of people in the United States can even run it! And only like 4% worldwide?!?!?

Every company has a distinct philosophy through which they make a profit. Microsoft under Steve Ballmer (until 2014): invest in every market and win through Microsoft's ability to blindly throw money at things (unsuccessful). Microsoft under Satya Nadella (after 2014): improve the PC market through forcing competition, creating consumer interest. If the market does better, Microsoft does better (successful). Apple under any CEO they've had: Control all variables that can cause risk. Consumers are a variable - ideologically isolate them from the rest of the market. Once consumers are controlled and isolated, Apple no longer needs to innovate or take risks (doing either costs money). This allows for the highest profit margins (60% minimum profit on every product). The highest profit margins, combined with dodging taxes, allow for steady and reliable growth, even if no risks are taken or innovations are made.
@BlasterBuilder
@BlasterBuilder 5 жыл бұрын
@@ZombieLincoln666 Should've probably clarified. The only risks they take will be the ones that cut costs at the detriment of their users, who are generally loyal enough for it not to matter. Ditching the headphone jack was but profitable to Apple in many ways (royalties on Lightning, space usage, cheaper not to include it, cheaper not to waterproof it). The system of their profitability is completely based on their control over their isolated and loyal user base. They never risk profit margin like other companies that innovate. They always risk sales instead because they know they won't lose them (although that's been changing these past several years).

@BlasterBuilder Ballmer > Nadella. Under Ballmer, we at least got Windows XP and 7. Under Nadella, we've got a Microsoft that forced Windows 10 on everyone, took away more user autonomy, and Microsoft has become Google-fied. Under Ballmer, Microsoft started getting more involved in the games industries and produced several gems for Windows, Xbox, and Xbox 360. While the disaster known as the Xbone happened under Ballmer, that was at the end of his leadership. Ballmer was far from perfect or even great, but I would take him over Nadella any day of the week. The only good thing that Nadella did was make me try Linux to get away from the horrendous Windows 10 environment. Thanks Nadella, I'm almost free from using proprietary software (I run Trisquel GNU/Linux and Arch in a VM)!

@Ryan M Like I said, Windows 10 is worse than anything put out under Ballmer. Between the design inconsistencies, forced updates, harmful updates (remember the October update that was postponed because it deleted some users' files?), forced Cortana (unless you're smart enough to use LTSB 2016 or LTSC 2019 like me), settings being all over the place between the old control panel and the new settings apps, replacing old functioning utilities with slow apps, ads in the dashboard, preinstalled bloatware, the Windows Store, and the increase in spying. I know old versions of Windows had spying, but 10 takes it to new heights. Ballmer was far from perfect, but never once in his tenure did I think "You know what, fuck Windows I'm moving to Linux" (Windows 8 came close, but 7 was still going strong during that period so I stuck with 7). Because of Windows 10, I started to learn more about GNU/Linux. I run Trisquel GNU/Linux and Arch GNU/Linux in VMs and I'm becoming acclimated with the GNU/Linux environment. It's not all good, but programming in Linux is less of a hassle than in Windows. If I didn't have muh video gaymes and some legacy Windows applications that can't run in WINE, I would switch over full time to GNU/Linux. I'm thinking of getting me another SSD to use for a GNU/Linux partition (or 2). My only other potential problem is that I'm using a 1050 ti for my GPU, and Nvidia gives GNU/Linux the shaft with drivers (as well as force their spyware known as the Geforce Experience). I'll probably get the rx 580 for my next GPU for the optimal experience.

@Ryan M I thank you for your words of encouragement, but don't count out the EEE of Microsoft now. They're including the Linux kernel in WSL, which looks like the extend part of their strategy. They first embraced Linux with the introduction of WSL, but are now going further. Microsoft feels threatened by GNU/Linux, but I think this happened because of Windows 10. As bad as Windows 8 and Vista was, there wasn't boatloads of people switching to GNU/Linux because of it. You just had people staying with XP and 7. Only with the aggression of Windows 10 with forced updates and trying to kill the last usable version of Windows in 7 did there become an exodus to GNU/Linux. You then have Microsoft trying to push the UWP, which I think contributed to Valve working more to help game compatibility on GNU/Linux and give people less of a reason to use Windows.

I installed Debian 12 on my grandma's old laptop because windows 10 was extremely slow as it was far exceeding what the laptop was built for (i think it was Vista) and almost nothing would work. Not only is Debian much more responsive, she has absolutely no problems using it and I am yet to hear from her that the computer requires her to update or is indicating some kind of a problem she obviously can't fix. I would argue that a Debian stable is the best operating system for someone computers illiterate as it is almost impossible to break something (as these people will never use anything as root), the system itself requires little to no intervention to keep working and clicking ok a sketchy link likely won't cause a virus related issue.

I'm not denying that apple has the shadiest business practices around but living a photography/videography lifestyle on on anything but Mac is just asking for trouble. Sure you can get by on Windows but the lack of user intuitive software, general stability across the board and the lack of fine tuning of every windows based laptop put me right off choosing windows again. Linux would be that but on stilts. All the little things add up big time for me. Things like having a colour calibrated screen from the factory, having excellent cross device integration. The battery being able to last all day without having to plug in. An industry leading trackpad and speaker system. Knowing some unintuitive software isn't going to hold up my work for ages and that I'm not gambling for a virus every time I go on the web. As you said , It just works! and that's all I need it to do. I'm sure if I was in a different lifestyle of work that opinion would change in many ways. I mean the state of gaming on Mac has and will forever be depressing by the looks of it. They certainly have the odd few or many downsides. Planned obsolescence being the crowning glory of that one. But linux especially would fall apart for most types of workflows other than something IT based.

@TheBlackiwid You can do all that with basically anything. That's how I use Windows and KDE. When I want to open something I hit the Super key to open the application menu or full screen launcher a la Gnome 3, then start typing for what I want. All the hot keys that drive gnome can be done for the other DE's as well, it's just that in those if you want to use a mouse it works much better. I use KDE just because it's the most customizable one. The out of the box KDE is an eyesore too, but you can fix it easily there.
@praetorxyn

@TheBlackiwid I only mentioned windows in that I don't click anything to start programs in Windows, I do it all with keyboard. Just to emphasize you don't need Gnome to do that, so I don't see how that is a benefit of Gnome. I like Plasma exactly because you can easily configure themes that make QT and GTK apps look the same. I don't like any "light" themes, so I agree the out of the box Plasma theme looks bad but it looks worlds better than Adwaita (or whatever the new Gnome theme is called, it looked like Adwaita to me). Gnome is a philosophy as you said, it's just that I see no point to it because that philosophy can be done in any DE and if you go tweaking gnome like adding a dock or something and you've arguably broken the philosophy. I also don't understand why Gnome is as heavy as it is. It looks much lighter weight than KDE in terms of what it does, but uses more resources somehow.

One point here resonates with me very well - I wouldn't have an issue if Apple EcoSystem was great. I absolutely wouldn't. The issue is that Apple cripples standard, basic features that Android/Windows/Linux have, makes them non-functional for 10+ Years, and then suddenly comes with Apple AirOff - OMG you can now turn off your phone, if you have an Apple Watch and AirPods connected.

Let me tell you a story, bear with me this may be a bit long but I hope you will appreciate it! (This happened about 5 years ago, I think it was iPhone 4 or 5?) I worked for a large global company in technical support. It was a typical commercial 100% Windows environment. Nowhere was there an Apple product on the company network of about 40,000 nodes. This company also had a list of Top 10 and Top 40 executives, who basically got the VIP treatment in the company. One day, the Top 10 Execs decided to buy i-Phones. We started getting calls logged in our CRM from the Exec's PAs to come and install i-Tunes on these high echelon Director's PCs so that they could unlock their i-Phone and use it. Seriously, any other phone, you can just switch it on and use it. The i-Phone needs to be paired to a copy of i-Tunes to even work. We panicked. We were unable to say no to a Top 10 VIP on pain of immediate sacking, but we were also strictly forbidden on pain of immediate sacking from installing i-Tunes on any node on the network due to Apple's insane licensing splurge. Let me digress slightly. According to the license agreement, and the reason why we were forbidden from installing i-Tunes, was that a company would need to purchase a license for every node on the network that the single copy of i-Tunes was on, due to it's intrinsic 'network' nature. According to our Legal/IT that meant if Apple detected just one copy of i-Tunes on the network they would push to bill the company to purchase 40,000 licenses. And especially due to it's network nature and it's suspected and likely 'phone home' features, not only was i-Tunes on the BANNED SOFTWARE list, it was also on the list in RED. So, our frontline support are flapping over these calls from Top 10 Exec PAs to install i-Tunes or else the phones wont work. (I think they will dial 999/emergency but are basically locked) While we tried to delay action the matter went upwards. It got to our IT Director. As a Top 10 he had a new i-Phone and also required i-Tunes installing. An email came round all internal IT support staff from the IT Director about installing i-Tunes for the Top 10 Execs; i.e. it must be done on request. Our IT Director was directing us to break one of his own directives. Some of us pulled out the email from many months previously threatening us in IT with disembowelment if we even discuss or mention i-Tunes let alone install it. Obviously we just kept it to ourselves. We came up with a compromise between the lower techies and the higher IT managment, after some playing and trial and error. We could install i-Tunes on the Director's company PC, pair the phone up, get it registered and working, then UNINSTALL i-Tunes all in one action. That seemed to satisfy everyone, and we reluctantly went ahead. We put one version of the i-Tunes install on the network and we all used that one version. Some of the other Directors were jealous fo the shiny i-Phones, so they very soon purchased i-Phones for the entire top 40 list of Execs. About 6 months later we arrived to work one morning to find our poor frontline Service Desk already in a melt down and the phone staff grey faced and visibly shaken. When our lines opened at 7.30am our poor early-bird phone operators already had at least a dozen apoplectic Directors or their tearful panic stricken PAs queued and waiting. Some had been calling since 6am leaving angry or desperate messages. We would get less 'meltdown' than that when an entire factory line PC crashed. Anyway, our tech guys were sent out to see what was actually going on and figure out in specific terms what had happened. All we had so far was shouting and tears. Having been caught up in the entire installing saga and having to face-to-face with some of the directors on the install, I was delighted to be deskbound that day, and watched the whole thing unfold from the safety of my emails. And did we laugh! I could barely read through the tears of laughter! Here's what happened: The i-Phone requires a copy of i-Tunes to work. When you do this, you register the i-Phone, and pair it, and also it automatically SYNCHRONISES the phone to THAT copy of i-Tunes. Because THAT copy of i-tunes was the one it was registered on, it counts that copy as its 'MASTER' copy. Non of this was explicit in Apple documentation. The Execs loved it though, it was far better than the crappy Nokia's they had had. The i-Tune automatically syncs everything for them, their music especially, but all kinds of data, Outlook calendar events, all synchronised perfectly and beautifully, every time they plug the i-Phone in to the PC to charge it silently synchronises. Everything. They loved it. They loved it so much that they all installed i-Tunes on their home PCs and synchronised their phones at home. 3-way seamless synchronisation of music, data and calendar events, brilliant! Then 6 months later i-Tunes had an update... Wordlessly it piped itself down the Execs' phone-lines at home and updated i-Tunes. When their i-Phones caught up with the update they suddenly locked up, demanding to see the original copy of i-Tunes it had been registered with. The PAs dutifully followed their Director's shouty demands to instantly get IT in to install the original version of i-Tunes on their company laptops/PCs and re-register/synchronise their i-Phones. They did so. It was recorded as a minor incident and it didn't even cause enough stir for the Service Desk to get involved in, so centrally we didn't know this was happening. But of course this was now a fresh install. Although it was the same laptop/pc, so the i-Phone accepted it. However, while it unlocked the phone, it also synchronised the phone. If you know how synchronisation works you know there are a number of ways it can work. On the crappy Nokia system we normally used there were multiple choices on the direction and method of synchronisation. The i-Phone gave no option and used this 'fresh' install of the 'MASTER' copy of i-Tunes as the basis to synchronise from. It effectively wiped the phone. It synchronised the phone to this new blank version of i-Tunes. Now it had upgraded to a medium strength incident. Still, the same local teams were dispatched and the central Service Desk was largely unaware. Despite the catastrophic sudden loss of data on the i-Phones (all happening on the same day across all the Top 40 Execs in their various Global locations, but concentrated in the London HQ), everybody was basically okay about the data itself, because they all had i-Tunes at home. They all had duplicate copies of their company data at home, and all the calendar events, so it wasn't a total disaster, it was just a big inconvenience to lose the use of the i-Phone and all their important stuff on it for the day. (The reason why companies lose money when the top execs get 'taken out' for some reason, is not because those execs were particularly crucial to the daily running of the company, it is because they demand so many resources to have themselves supported to such a high level and demand immediate restoration of their first class service, damn all other resources.) Anyway, that night, these execs went home, and with relief see that their i-Tunes still has all it's music, and Outlook is still fully intact. They plug their phones in. The i-Phones synchronise. I think you can guess what happened. The i-Phone saw the copy of i-Tunes at their home as a SLAVE version, and it dutifully synchronised their home PC in line with the i-Phone which was a roaming version of the MASTER version. It effectively wiped their home PCs of any i-Phone related data. That meant their entire music collections in some case, but also huge swaithes of Outlook Calendar events, and any data that was associated with Outlook via the i-Phone. Practically anything the i-Phone had touched had been 'synchronised'. So day two, this really hit. Some of our guys couldn't wait to go back. They couldn't say anything but they walked down the corridors past the full length windows of the exec offices with a 'we told you so' kind of swagger! They lost A LOT of data! We laughed a LOT!

I smell horse shit in this story or you've been given incorrect info in the past. AFAIK, there has never been a requirement to pay for iTunes across a business network. It's freeware and okay, there might be business policies that stop the installation of extra software for security or lock down reasons. But there has never been a license cost. My hunch if this was ever true, your IT bosses had a thing for Apple products and just wanted to cause havoc for people who wanted to choose differently. The sync issue between different silos of iTunes is shit as well. I can't remember exactly what the state of things was around iPhone 4,/5,but you can easily switch off all the sync functions and tie 5 different computers to manage your phone via the Apple account. The fact your teams didn't want to support people wanted these devices is sickening really. Anyone professional in IT can work across all devices. We all have our personal preferences and MacOS/iOS is definitely not clever proof. Because you can't tinker with the OS, so what? Go back to an OS what was designed for it. Oh right, it's there in front of you. Linux. Not everything should have to confirm to the nerdy standards. Get your facts right too. This story is full of holes.

This was under the overall direction of the legal department. We also had a directive not to use Winzip and other freeware, because they are not free for Corporate use. There is a lot of software that is stated as free, but that is only for personal or small volume use. Most freeware is NOT free for large volume corporate use. And Apple were known to be particularly vicious when it came to litigation. The same reason why we had flash drives with Spybot and CCleaner and such things that we would install, use, then uninstall, because as far as I remember they also were not free for Corporate use. As far as legal was concerned, if we did not have a named corporate license, we could not use the software REGARDLESS of how much it was proclaimed as free on their website. Hidden way down in the EULA would be a clause covering large volume corporate use and how they defined 'free to use'.

In fairness, some people do buy computers to run specific applications. If you are mostly a video editor and you think that Final Cut Pro is such a good tool that it's worth having a specific computer to run it on, than it makes some sense to buy a Mac. I own an iPad. Not for general use, but because I play synthesizer, and there are specific, very powerful instruments and music apps that you can get cheaply on an iPad--but not on an Android or Linux tablet. That said, I agree totally with the rest of your rant. Despite being Unix (Mach) based, MacOS is infuriating and limiting and Mac hardware is locked down and totally unappealing. I'm a ThinkPad user and moving from a ThinkPad to any MacBook is sheer torture for me. Not to mention the lack of customization and internal expansion. Macs do work Ok for everyday uses, but so do Windows and Linux systems, and I prefer the hardware and OS available for these.

Althought you are right for some points, you seen a bit biased against mac and windows. Im styding Computer Engineering and work 8+ hours per day on a computer, either laptop or desktop. Plus I have an android smartphone. The desktop is 8 years old and runs Windows 10. And when I need linux, I fire a VM or SSH on a remoter server. As for the laptop, I was in the market 2 years ago for a portable small 13'' laptop with great battery life to take at uni and be able to do everything. And all the competitors with the specs I wanted were ~1500€ mark. In the beggining I was targeting for a Dell XPS 13. And guess what? With the exact same spec, a MacBook Air 13 was 150€ cheaper than the XPS. So I took the chance to learn the mac platform and be proficient in all 3 (Windows, Mac, Linux). As for the repairability and the obsolecence, you are partly right. They are difficult of not impossible to repair if you have a hardware problem. But Apple supports software updates far longer than most manufacturers. Just look at the iPhone. Apple pushed updates on 5+ yr old devices, whereas on Android, you are lucky if you get updates for 2 years. Also, what I notice in uni is that most IT pros have macs for the same reasons. Great battery life, dependable and stable OS, solid build quality. I understand that everyone sees things differently, but if you tryied the combo of mac laptop with windows desktop at home, you would be surprised how easy is to live with them side by side. Linux is great for programming, servers and learning about OSes. But if not compatible enough for everyday use. Most applications that everyone uses dont exist there. That alone is a deal breaker.

+gctechs Are you by any chance using the stock ROM or some custom build other than the original LG one it shipped with? Because if that's the case, I'd understand. However, for the everyday user.. they're never gonna change from the stock rom - meaning unlike an iPhone, they are unlikely to get updates after a couple of years because the manufacture has like 20 new phones out... And a quick google comes up with people complaining about KitKat lagging so much on an L7 and the chances of a Lollypop update working is unlikely since the L7 has obsolete GPU drivers..

andrew7720 You are selling this as a positive. Phones from 2007 should not run the most recent bloatware. I use an LG Tribute II to make a living! I could not do this if i had the latest os. It would be slow as dog feces. This idea of upgrading phones to the latest os and all its extensions means your phone will eventually run so slow that it is unusable. This is what i hear iphone users complain about constantly. Doid phones still get regular security updates etc. And as such are still usable even 10 years later as a daily use main mobile device. I am living proof of why that is positive, not a shortcoming.

My first encounter with modern OSX was with Snow Leopard (a few weeks after its release at the time), I had to ask my longtime Mac user colleague how to resize a window by dragging it from the top or left sides. He said, you can't. Since it was a machine he arranged for me to use I thought he had put in some custom mod to troll me. (Don't laugh, it was still new to me and I didn't know that 'custom' and MacOS don't belong in the same sentence.) It wasn't until the next day it began to sink in that this was not just a silly joke, and there really was an OS released well into the 21st century that didn't properly implement one of the most fundamental features of a graphical interface (that even Windows 3.0 already had over 20 years earlier). Of course this turned out to the be tip of the iceberg, and I sincerely wish I could get back all the hours I spent learning iOS development and put it into Android. I had never imagined so many people could be eating such a pile of shit and not only tolerant of it, but strongly defensive of all its flaws and showering it with money too. It really is some kind of mental problem, like Stockholm syndrome. Don't get me started on iOS, XCode, iTunes, lack of backward compatibility, AppStoreConnect, provisioning profiles, Finder.... ughh. Everywhere you look there is a steaming pile of shit.

Xenon A city in its core element is a machine with a set of laws for the best efficiency. That’s all Windows is also, a machine with a set of software that tries to be as efficient as possible. That’s why I was comparing a city to a computer. Minecraft gathered information also and got flak for it. Apple even sends all your information to their servers when ever you use Siri anything. And they don’t get any flak. Google makes hundreds of dollars off of selling your information from your searching and browsing habits and no one cares. Maybe I’m uneducated, but I haven’t heard Microsoft using the information they have gathered for advertising. I’ve only heard the information for big-data analysts and some results of that.

And if they weren't selling your info to advertisers then why would you need to turn off targeted ads in Windows settings? Something "not getting flak" and something not being bad are two very different things. The fact that companies sell people's data en masse does not mean that it is acceptable, it means that it is widespread and normalized. You should probably look into mass surveillance as well, as it's pretty insane what government organizations collect and how they try and justify it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PRISM_(surveillance_program)

Most people don't care about customising their graphical interface, adding RAM, replacing keyboards or the moral implications that come with feeding the corporate machine. Most people just want a computer, tablet or phone that works, is simple and will be replaced if there's a problem and that's what Apple's brand is famous for - its simplicity. If that means paying extra, people will do that.

Linux = Atheism: it's the right choice but most people are too superstitious to try it. Windows = The Catholic Church: people pretty much know the whole thing is a scam but they stay because it's a tradition, is socially acceptable and for the most parts harmless, except for a few molested children here and there. Mac = Scientology: aspiring graphic designers and musicians may think they need it in order to succeed, because all the big names in their insdustries use it, but all it really is, is a weird cult designed to suck you out of your money.

I wouldn't call Linux the "right" choice but I would certainly call Macs the wrong choice. There are multiple videos out there explaining why Apple is a literal corporate cult, as you said, designed to suck the money out of you. The only excuse for running Windows I will accept is legacy corporate software or actual, professional work that requires software that only works on Windows. "Muh Office" and "Muh Photoshop" don't count as excuses. Office is available online and there's plenty of alternatives and unless you do true professional photo editing Krita/Gimp work just fine.

A good and funny analogy, but a bit flawed. As a Gentoo user, I'm about as hardcore Linux as it gets, but even I wouldn't say that Linux is "the right choice". It's *a* choice, but not always the best for every circumstance. I'd say that Linux's biggest strength is automation. You can build a workflow in Linux for basically any task that will leave the typical Windows user's sweaty palms pissing with blood as he tries to keep up. PowerShell is a band-aid on an open wound, it does nothing without the underlying support tools. For some tasks you can assemble the bits you need from third-party sources - usually proprietary and with extremely limited automation capability compared to the Linux equivalents, most of which are part of the standard distribution. But for most things, in my experience, Windows is essentially useless at automation. Fundamentally, Windows is, as the name suggests, just something you're meant to look at (or through). It's consumer oriented, it's meant for you to "consume" things, usually commercial things. It's the toaster of the PC world. And that's a good thing, because there are times when you just want to do stuff without having to engage your brain. People lead busy lives, the last thing they need is to have to mess around with obscure config files after a hard day at work. I use Windows the same way I use a TV. Linux, on the other hand, is a power tool. I use it to get things done, things I'd seriously struggle with on any other OS, including Windows, Mac OS and even Android (which ironically is Linux based, but just as brain-dead as Windows). Mac OS (and indeed any Apple product) is an odd one. On the one hand, it's brain-dead simple like Windows, but on the other hand it's limited to the point of being useless, even for normal consumer activities, and even the functionality it does offer is bound to Apple's weird paradigms. Their motto should be "All Think the Same" not "Think Different", because it really is like a sort of religious cult. There's simple and then there's "simple", and Apple is just one blue pill too far.

I feel for you man. I have been a Apple fan for about 7 years. Before that I was Linux user. No I was a Linux User Radical. While I worked for the Federal government I perpetually encouraged the abandonment of MS Windows on everyones desktop for Linux because it was and is inherently more secure and it is cheaper to own. But recently I took a big step and converted by Apple laptop to Linux. No I wasn't going to throw away my Apple laptop and buy a whole new Windows laptop only to "Clense" the infection of Windows to put Linux on top of that. That would be a waste of what I already owned. No I didn't do the pXssy thing and just install it in a virtual environment. I completely wiped out OSX and installed Linux Mint on my machine. Know what? It runs just fine. I've been playing with the Linux on Raspberry Pi Single Board Computers. No OSX or iOS there. Linux Mint is a decent Operating system that deserves everyone's attention. Besides Linux usage is still growing and growing. I heard recently that the entire European Union is switching over to Linux and they are re-creating their Open Source Government apps to Linux. Yeah. So don't dump your Apple machine. Just UPGRADE it to Linux. P.S. When I heard recently ago that Apple deliberately AND FRAUDULENTLY slows down their iOS on their iPhones through the updates just before they release their new iPhones I swore I would never ever buy another iPhone. I've switched over to Android and have never looked back.

I don't wan't to be part of Macs ecosystem, I don't wan't to obey their shitty keyboard layout, I don't like how Mac OS works and sadly I am not even allowed to switch to Linux (yet). I can understand that some people really wan't to work with Macs, but as a Backend Developer who mostly deals with serverside applications, I don't wan't to have it. I'd never dreamed of hating a company more than microsoft but here we are, Apple is definitely the company I despise the most right now.

What a coincidence, it's exactly the reverse for me, and it's the reverse for more people because there are still more companies using Windows PCs, than the reverse, and it's usually because of the force of habit, and because of raw initial price tag. All jobs that I had where I was forced to use Windows PCs were continuous bouts of frustration. Why can't the computer do this or that? Where's that keyboard shortcut? Why is that button on the left? Why is the network so unstable? Why, why, why, it never stopped.

Objectively, Windows really do lack some features. Not knowing how to do something is not the same as the absence of a feature.

That's weird, most devs I work with are moving to macOS by choice. There is only one dev on our floor using Windows, a few Linux, the rest Mac.

Well I use a mac because you can't publish on ios without a mac. I use a runoffthemill wireless keyboard and mouse , remapped command key on control key so I can use all my familiar shortcuts and right-click and wheelscroll with the mouse, no big deal. At home I'm all windows because muh games and frankenPC is cheap and powerful.

Just found a channel exploring most popular vids. Hate, never had, never had Apple products myself, but their processors are no1 out there as of 2023 I believe.
