Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this! I also started on Maschine Mikro MK2 then wasn't satisfied with the lack of knobs and screen so I upgraded to the regular Maschine MK2...then when MK3 came out, I also upgrade and it was even better. But when MPC One came out, I decided to sell my Maschine because I really wanted a standalone, since I really have the MPC 2500 SE on my wishlist ever since but I find it very expensive for an older generation MPC. But still I really do miss the Maschine MK3 workflow.

So do you think that now maschine has clips both hardware workflow and course teachings has to change. Like Suddenly NI maschine has become ableton live? I tend to use traditional DAWs like Cubase / reaper / logic simply because I am a classically trained pianist not really focusing on beats but actually playing accurately without sample aids. There is an incredible talent to arranging and this where the workflow aids really help structure the shell of any song. Rather than the limitless empty shell in a traditional DAW project. But in your opinion what are the best tips to structure your songs using maschine. I just bought an mk3 mikro which has opened the door to maschine software.

People have asked me what my favorite controller is to date and I’ve said time and time again since it’s release is maschine mk3 hands down , I’ve been asked what company makes the best sounds for there daw and expansions and I’ve said native instruments. I have a few stand alones and a few wired and none include the mk3 due to the fact I felt the daw has always felt counter intuitive and hinders my work flow with that said I purchased the mpc one which I track back to ableton because ableton to me is life , most my expansions are native instruments , down the road hopefully the company learns to play well with others and or steps up there daw functionality but for me ableton has been choice over all .

DeffBaer, I am thinking about purchasing an MK3. I have been going back and forth between the MPC (new generation) and the MK3. I am into sampling and the 90's boom bap style of production (I was a young adult in my 20's during the heyday of the 1990's). Besides Sara's paid tutorial for the MK3, which I have not yet purchased, have you found anything else that's been useful to you. had the exact same issue (just bought a 404), was driving me nuts until i figured out it wasn’t a cable issue. It’s definitely an issue with the maschine’s audio interface...if you don’t have the power supply plugged in, you’ll get the hissing noise. confirmed by also trying to route my maschine into ipad (msxii’s apps are great on ipad), got the same hiss. if you use the power supply with the maschine, the hiss should go away.

Hey Sarah, I look at every of your videos. I really like the content but sometimes it can be redundant... It's like my opinion and... Whom Am I to judge your content ? If you feel depressed by what I said just check your number of subscribers and views. I'm one among many of those. In other words, I'm almost negligible. What kind of video would I be interested in if after all you did I felt it to be still humdrum (I can be so full of myself :) ? You were to be wandering in the city or in the wild with your SP404, recording sounds from which you would make an instrumental. Thus you'd be answering the question : what about sound design when it comes to a combination of SP404 and Maschine MK3 ? Another variation would be to use a field recorder only to collect the sounds you would use and then see, out of the same sounds, which gear (SP404 or MK3) is able to make it the most musical. Did you find the Troupeau Bleu vinyl at last ? What a twisted viewer request, isn't it ? Roulez jeunesse !

Why just be binary? Like, you can only use standalone or DAW. Use both, they both have there strengths and weaknesses. Just got the mpc one to and its crazy dope. But I also use Ableton. And now with mpc you can export your project right into Ableton and that's dope. You can make beats with both but the groove box style production of the mpc allows you to get into your beats faster. While I've made beats on Ableton and the work flow is good, Ableton is better for mixing, creating songs, and mastering than mpc. So use both or how many programs you use. Enjoy yourself and don't limit yourself.

I make beats in stand alone then master them in a daw. Some times I drag and drop into studio one. It depends how I feel. I started making beats on a DR909 sampler / Drum machine. Sampling vinyl and random tapes and CD’s. Then I witches to reason then I went to Cubase now I make beats in Maschine and studio one. I have tried FL which has a blur sample mode which is dope and I love there glide in the piano roll. But it just didn’t do it for me. I have tried ableton it’s cool. I didn’t have the push though. The maschine hardware is just so amazing. Especially when you get into the note repeat in chord mode and make crazy arps out of sounds and the scale mode it’s just so fast. It won’t replace my keyboard but sometimes I just want to use the maschine hardware.

Hey Sarah. I understand the Maschine Love. It's not perfect but it's a great system for making music and due to it's positives and negatives it's the reason why I now have quite a few different workflows. My NI set up consists of Komplete Kontrol S61 mk2, Maschine Mikro mk2 and Maschine Jam. It's a great workflow. Chopping samples is fast and the sound library is vast. My current Akai MPC set up is just the MPC500 at the moment as my MPC2000XL is being fixed and upgraded. Originally I started using an MPC60 II that belonged to a producer friend back in the mid 90's, then I bought a MPC2000 towards the end of the 90's when I made my first set up. I didn't really get how to use it so my oldest son who was 11 at the time used it much more than I ever did. My preference was to use Music 2000 (MTV Music Generator) on Sony Playstation alongside a Yamaha DJX. Then I moved on to using Reason 2.5 rewired with Cakewalk Sonar 3 and I sticked with that format upgrade to Reason 3 then 5 and Sonar 6 then 8.5 over the years. I bought the MPC500 around this time but never really got into the MPC workflow (again) as Reason was so much more powerful and easier to use so I parked it. When I moved to Apple Mac I switched to Logic and Maschine Jam. The Jam can do so much. I was hooked. I wanted to play the pads though so I bought the Mikro to pair with it then the S61 to play keys. Sometimes the Maschine/Komplete software can get heavy on the CPU which is annoying so I built an analogue set up with a couple of high end new analogue synths (Moog Sub37 and Korg Prologue 16) and a few vintage ones along with an Arturia Drumbrute analogue drum machine and a Novation Circuit groove box. I took the MPC500 out of storage and learned to use it properly a few months ago and now that is integral in my set up. Aside from making beats with it I also use it to sequence my Korg Prologue which doesn't have an on board sequencer. It's great to have a variety of tools to be able to create what is in our mind. Practice makes perfect though and even if we only have one unit to make music with as long as we use it to the best of it's potential with a great idea then we have a great chance of making something awesome that others will find entertaining and inspirational.

Getting mine today. I tried MPC and it just doesn’t t promote creativity. Feels more like a suite of tools in a box than something cohesive. It’s also very file-divey. No sound/sample/preset tagging so you end up browsing endless files to find what you want and you have to make sure you use a specific file name structure. Just getting samples into a project on MPC felt like work and required a lot more forethought/planning. I felt like it’s workflow was a creativity killer. I ended up sending it back. Maschine seems like it’s more fun/easy to use and a much more cohesive experience. Just watching videos showing how you create groups seems like it’s a faster experience than the MPC.

Maschine is great but using it with a DAW is pain. You already said for using beat based and being hands on is great. But Logic is for the whole song, so sophisticated. Even better would be if you could do ANY music and vocal on Maschine. Fun to play . Logic X is thrilling now and Maschine could have evolved with truly great integration by now. We are lucky to be able to have music. You are great.

I've been a sonar fan for years until Cakewalk defunct and there were no more updates. Now I'm using studio one 5 Pro and absolutely love it. Just got the MK3 and trying to figure out how to use it. It's been difficult, I'm enjoying it. Chopping and editing samples seems a lot quicker in Maschine than in any of the DAWs that I currently use.

Thank you for all your videos. I just picked up the machine mk3 I know a lot late but was using a mpc live then live 2 but the workflow is crazy confusing and this feels so quick. But thanks again stay safe out there and keep making them banging beats.

i started off using fl studio when it was called fruity loops with no controller just a mouse and a keyboard lol. Maschine was my go to because I always wanted a MPC but couldn't afford one. I still have my MKI and loved the workflow. I got the Maschine Studio 3 yrs ago but then my skills on Ableton Live was improving. i gave up Maschine and stuck with Ableton Live and now I finally have a MPC Live and I love it because its a controller plus stand alone. Definitely no hate because Maschine brought me my first great memorable beats that I know was made on that DAW. So now I really have best of both worlds rocking the Push 2 and MPC Live. Now the Akai Force is calling my name. Smh. Lol.

Agreed! Just got a Maschine+ for my bday and giving it another shot after my neglected attempt with the MK whatever that dropped in 2011. I love Ableton too but the stand-alone, no computer life is where it’s AT!! Love your videos, vibes and content 💯 🔥

Doesn't it look a bit obsolete these days? The screens are too small, CPU is too weak... I think myself to buy it but have these concerns :)

maschine and studio one is my best combination, mk3 is getting creative with the samples, komplete m32 is controlling the studio one, still hands on the hardware. i love this combination.

fl. i know ableton and ive tried logic, i always return to fl studio. midi is garbage in ableton, its not an intuitive daw like fl studio. my idea goes from my mind to my speakers quickest through fl studio and thats just how it be.

Do you cover how you run maschine alongside a daw if the course covers that would be very interested in the setup and best work flows for using alongside studio one

Maschine works well in studio one. You can open mutiple instances of Maschine in it. I use a quad-core i5 3.ghz and easily run 4 instances of projects of maschine into studio one and have no issues. You can route 16 channels into studio one per instance of maschine you fire up. Plenty of tutorials on maschine workflow in studio one on KZbin. ✌

Anymore, I make beats in maschine, but I use Ableton for my arrangements. Something about using that helps, but I make everything beat wise in maschine then drag over my audio. That's me personally tho.
