I know this was two years ago but I’m still using my Black Hunter longbow, wood and aluminum arrows but they are always heavy weight, 12-14 grains per pound. Usually tipped with 3 blade VPA broadheads. I’ve used 3 blade heads for over 5 decades, previously the Snuffers when I shot more bow weight and now these longer and slimmer VPA’s. Am using a 6 strand string with padded loops made from mercury material mad by SDB. Split finger tab, no arm guard because I never hit my arm but do wear one when I have bulky hanging down sleeve. I too like Sika Spruce but I’m slowly running out of my preferred stock and the manufacturer has passed on, now. I do have a bunch of old Acme POC to use(some of mine date back to the 1950’s when the quality was suburb! For aluminums small diameter and thick walled like 1820’s which are really tough and the heaviest grain weight Arrow I shoot(over 600 grains in a 28” arrow). FYI, some states don’t allow barbed broadheads and that Zwickey would be consider barbed! Subscribed today and just started watching your videos. Started with the older ones working my way forward. Will check out your Patreon channel but being a septuagenarian on Social Security hope it’s not too expensive. Thank you!

Why choose a longbow over a recurve? And why a Flemish Twist over an endless loop type string? Very interesting vid. I am considering the Black Hunter takedown Longbow basically because I have never shot or owned one before. I have had a few recurve target and a few compounds. I like barebow Traditional bows and have sold my compounds.

I would like to get a Black Hunter bow but not sure which retailer to buy it from. On Amazon there are so many different companies selling it. The first one I saw was Mandarin Duck. They sell the for $150.00. Everyone else on Amazon sells them from $70-$100. I have read reviews saying only buy from Mandarin Duck. I have also read reviews giving other recommendations on where to or not to buy. Which company did you use to purchase your bow?

@gabrielwickline3153 жыл бұрын
You can take the riser to a good bowyer and get inserts put in, depending on what you are looking for. Plunger and stabilizer inserts may be an issue due to the riser size, but you can easily get quiver/sight inserts installed. My grandfather has a similar bow that has a 2 inch longer riser, and he had inserts installed for a bow quiver. Just make sure you take it somewhere with a good reputation.

@@danny_the_K Check your state regs, some of them (Oregon for sure) have specific requirements for elk, last time I looked it was 50lbs, but I don't see why a 45lb bow shot well, hitting where your aiming, shouldn't get the job done unless there is a legal reason for choosing a higher weight

I am still a bear fan boy, The Black hunter Longbow in 50 pounds shoots fast, it's quiet, very accurate, and most import it is an exceptional value with a retail price right at about $105.00. I hunted with it for half the season, but to be fair I did gravitate back to my Bear Bow for the rest of the season. This spring I will be using the Bear Kodiak Hunter on a Black Bear hunt in Saskatchewan this may. I will also be hunting spring gobbler with my newest bow an Omega Royal Huntsman longbow. Stay tunes for those videos as I will be uploading them after each hunt. I also love the Bear Montana just wish it was a heavier draw weight. Thanks for watching.

I understand wanting to get a deal, especially on a bow. But I have to be honest, it bothers me to see so many people going to bows made overseas. There are some damn good bows made right here. Yes they cost more money but isn't it worth it knowing that you're buying something made in America, supporting people just like yourself? To each their own I guess.
@allthingsarcheryandshootin93803 жыл бұрын
Yes I can see your point but a lot of people can not afford a 800 or 1000 dollar bow. The Black Hunter bow for about 125 dollars is a great bow especially someone on a budget or tight on money.
@RJ-wl2ws3 жыл бұрын
@@allthingsarcheryandshootin9380 I understand that. I just hope that someday they save their money and buy something close to home. obviously this is a trend that has been going on in other industries for a long time. But I thought we, as traditional archers, take more pride in our equipment and where it's made. At least that is what I have seen in my many years in the field. Perhaps I'm wrong, maybe American pride is a dwindling characteristic. Good luck to you in your hunt.
@r1sabotage3 жыл бұрын
@@RJ-wl2ws American greed is what's driving more Americans to buy overseas. The same item these "American" companies are selling are outsourcing parts or the whole product overseas and assemble it in American and call it American made. Then they sell it 10x the cost. What makes this all worst is the same/similar overseas product is being made better than some of these American made products. I have three American made trad bows and one oversea and I only shoot the oversea bow because to me it's just better than the other two. With my compound bows I have two and both are American made but that's because America is keeping the game on lock with quality made compound bows. That's just my opinion but I do see what you mean but it's the greed and inferior product that's pushing people away.
@RJ-wl2ws3 жыл бұрын
@@r1sabotage I agree with a lot of that. And perhaps it's just my close mindedness, and possibly ignorance, but I still believe, or want to believe, American products are superior. That's not to say that there aren't other quality productsmade else where. I had a bodnik bow that I absolutely loved. It's just that in my opinion the Chinese products are taking forefront simply because of price. And you're absolutely right, we as greedy Americans are the cause of it. But traditional archery is the last industry that I thought this would happen to simply because of character. Thank you for your input.

I ordered one of these for my brother and the tiller was off big time. Was able to get it close. Bought me one a month later and the top limb was ok but the other one looked like a mindless monkey finished it. String was way off center and couldn’t sand enough to get it right so I got the red ass and wrapped it around a tree. Won’t never buy another one. Riser is the best part. The rest is junk. you can order 10 and the limbs will all have problems.
@toddreeves5204 Жыл бұрын
Not sure why you are having such trouble I have owned at 10 of the black hunters and tested many others and I still have 5 in my collection and none had a problem except the one that the limb blew up on me which in all likely was my own fault for shooting a very light arrow to get as much speed as possible out of that bow. By the way that bow shot 212 FPS before the limb blew and I have never duplicated that speed before. The black hunter is a fine bow and there are millions of them out there ans everyone praises them. maybe you got a bad batch buy another I think you will be happy
