I would have gotten the deluxe, too. I swapped out my Joust, Centipede, and Dig Dug monitors. At this point, I wouldn't buy a new 1up that I have to replace the monitor. I've done a lot of modding, but it adds up. Shopping for cabs and lunch? That's a good day. Great review!

Thank you Eric! I agree after a few it’s hard to keep swapping out monitors. The size is so tempting with Shaq, I just didn’t want to deal with it right now. I’m glad Skidz picked it up he loved it! McDonald’s at the end was the topper :)

Nice job comparing the two cabs, Phil. I agree with you about the Deluxe being the way to go because it fixes so many of the issues with the XL (the monitor having terrible color washout at different viewing angles, the non-traditional Shaq cab art, the lack of a slanted control deck, no coin doors, etc.) right out of the box. It’s $$$ and hassle to fix all that stuff. I like to mod my cabs, but when you can buy something out of the box that has everything you want minus maybe the 19” monitor, to me that’s a no brainer. For those who like the bigger form factor, at least you have that choice too.

Thank you Dug Dawger! I agree man I don’t think there’s a better choice or bad choice and I still think if both cabs were both priced at 399, Shaq jam would sell out. There’s nothing better than a bigger cab, it’s just the time and money like you said to stick into it. If Shaq was 399 or less it’s a no brainer :)

PhilO you FOMO'd poor Skidz into buying that cabinet, shame on you lol. I think you should be a spokesman for A1up, you could sell glasses to a blind man. These addictions are hard to kick, but its fun, you pay the price and you enjoy and move onto other stuff, its the way of the world. We got cold weather here but not nearly the snow you got brother. I picked up 30 Atari Carts for 60 bucks and they all work, super clean, you need to get an Atari 2600+ so we can collect together, I have some dupes I can ship over!

Love your videos as always Phil. As much as I love Shaq jam after your review of the deluxe and going over the differences I would definitely lean towards the deluxe. It just has more value in means you don’t have to mod it when you get it. The screen, the coin door, the side Art so many things that the deluxe has thar Shaq Jam doesn't. Personally for me I’m always going with an XL over a Deluxe if I have a choice. With the Shaq you can always mod it if you want to, you have options. Unfortunately there isn’t an option to mod a Deluxe into a XL. I know if I went with the Deluxe I’d always wish I got the XL. I think you do to by the way your conscience was coming out at the end of the video 😂😂😂 Honestly you can’t go wrong with either one if it makes you happy. Great video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Great job Great buy It seams that the nba jam deluxe is one of their best out of the box Monitor n marquee look sharp Legit coin doors The joysticks n buttons for jam work well out of the box And the leds are an added bonus For my height I might put a little riser on it but not a must

Deluxe is a much better cabinet, but for playability, the 19" monitor is much better than 17". It depends on what you value. I found it easier to play with friends on 19" shaq than it is to play on 17" blitz

This is such a great Walk & Talk Phil! Nobody who buys Shaq Jam is keeping that crappy monitor! It's worth the $70 to make it livable! Now Skidz has to pay for mods! I personally prefer the Deluxe! 😁 You have some beautiful camera work in this video Phil! Wonderful job!

I’m an owner of the Shaq Jam. I’m actually the opposite perspective in retaining my Shaq Jam than to purchase the Deluxe. Faults aside, the bigger form factor is the selling point. The bigger it is the more it “feels” like an arcade. The deluxe definitely has noticeable upgrades/updates but what’s holding me back is it’s a smaller version of the same offering for the exact same price. With modding being much more affordable and accessible, I rather make have the loss than restart with moderate upgrade of the exact same thing

Agree, boe monitors are better. Honestly I don't have any issues with a tn monitor. Curse the people are arcade1up that had the idea to make a Shaq Jam cabinet (if they are still there). A majority of consumers like us want arcade accurate art, what were they thinking? Lol

Deluxe, for the win. The Shaq Jam would have been killer with a boe monitor standard. You still should get the T.E. topper, such a nice addition. I will say without the riser booster the control panel is at a perfect height for your hands and arms. Matches to similar panel height for those Midway games on a real arcade. On a couple I raised a few inches for the monitor viewing angle, its not that comfortable for me playing with the controls, and I'm 5'11".

From what I remember growing up playing arcade games in the 80's and 90's, at the Arcade stores, the resolution was not that all too great. It was pixelated. No matter what angle you are looking at it. So if you want to bring back the nostalgia, why are you complaining about the clarity of the monitors. Just play the PS5 or do pc gaming instead if you want clarity.

NBA Jam is on my list, but I've been avoiding Shaq Jam for all the reasons you stated. I don't want to spend extra to fix it. So I'm targeting the Deluxe and waiting for a price break. Another great video!

I would change the monitor if i had it before assembly, but I definitely wouldn't take the cab back apart to install it. I think the screen is ok straight on. Like you said, who plays a game from the side lol. Thanks for the review and coverage as always 👏👍🤙🎮🕹

Hey Smokade, I got it for 599 including shipping & tax from ShopHippo. Having Shaq Jam already there’s no reason to swap it for the deluxe. You can argue either one is good, if I could have both I would :)
