Its a hard decision but I am right there with you it is best to just go without teeth for a little while, let your mouth heal up nice and as fast as possible so you can get those dentures that will fit more perfectly, btw, thank you for this video... you made me cry i could see tears in your eyes, i felt ya girl, you are absolutely lovely.

I didn't get immediate dentures. If you can deal with not having teeth, I think it can be a lot better cuz when you do go in, your gums are healed and your dentures can fit and feel a lot better. Now I couldn't be happier with them. True, I did struggle at first with eating. A lot, but I kept at it, didn't give up on eating with them and now I can eat everything. My dentist does not do immediate dentures. He believes it’s the wrong way to do it. So I had to bear through not having teeth for 4 months. I got my dentures tues I think I made the right decision. They fit great and look great and from what I understand the biggest amount of change is in the first three months. It sucked but I made it and I didn’t have to deal with the pain and discomfort of wearing dentures over the bloody holes from having my teeth removed.

An immediate denture is one of the best ways to facilitate gum healing and to avoid embarrassment after full mouth extraction. The only reason immediate dentures are not very comfortable is that during the extraction of the teeth, the remaining bone, aka gum ridges were not filed smoothly to prepare them to accept dentures. That is why the immediate denture starts hitting the uneven surface of the gum ridges and the patient feels pain. Select your dental provider carefully, do not blame the denture for shortcomings of the provider.

I got immediate dentures 2wks after my extractions so my mouth wasn't sore. I go in every 6wks for soft reline for about year. Appointment takes about 20 mins. Then I get hard reline which makes them permanent. Can't imagine why your dentist is against that. Also, I too have watched tons of Utube denture videos and I don't recall anyone having to go twice a week for soft relines let alone Alot off people having to. I'm not trying to be rude but please state state when what u are saying is Your Opinion as opposed to facts because like us, there are anxious pre denture wearers researching. Good Luck with yours.

I not sure what to think about this video...I got immediates that fit perfectly, both top and bottoms. No issues what so ever with healing. Soft reline done every 2 months and they certainly were not bulky or disappearing up into my mouth. A good densurist that actually has experience would prevent that from happening when putting in soft reline then inserting in patient's mouth. Although when researching for a dentist...I visited with a lot... The ones that have less experience with dentures discouraged immediates. Where the dentists who specialize in dentures and have very qualified (talented) densurist, encourage immediates. Recovery for me was a LOT faster than my sister who didn't get immediates when she had hers done years ago. I recently got my permanent done and they fit great as well. Never during my journey, did I ever need adhesive. Whether a person decides to get immediates or not, will not effect the fit of their permanents when that time comes. So I encourage everyone to do whatever is in their budget to do. My cost of immediate and permanent custom design dentures was $1780.00 after insurance paid $1000.00. Note... these are regular dentures...no implants.

My E-date was July 2, 2016. I chose to go without immediate dentures, because i was told that they would be an additional $3000 ($1500 per plate). Those dentures, we KNOW would be poor fitting because of the healing, and would be replaced with permanents. I couldn't see spending $3000 on a pair of "throw away" dentures. I got my permanents early November. I honestly think I should have waited a full year so my gums were completely healed. My permanents are now so loose I cannot wear them without adhesive of some sort. Maybe I took longer to heal completely than the dentist thought. I've just taken Bill Westlund's advice and used the DenSureFit stuff and it's made my denture fit awesome, but it took two full tubes to fill in the gaps that i've healed up from. Perhaps I need to go have my dentist do a permanent reline, but for now.. I'm happy with the silicone. (My dentist is about a 40 minute drive from home... constant relines takes up way too much time). I'm happy to see I wasn't the only one to decline the immediate dentures though.. so thank you for your video... soft food diet isn't so bad.. once you get used to it. haha

I got immediate dentures and I am so glad I did. It really helps a lot with the pain & the healing process. As far as constant alignments.... That's not true.. they actually put a thin layer of pink paste inside your denture that is soft and flexible... allowing your denture plate to feel fitting & comfortable throughout the healing & gum changes (until 4-6 months later when you get your perm set)... The denture protects the stitches and also keeps swelling down bc it is applying light pressure to extraction sites.. the pain is a lot less when you have denture plates covering your extraction sites.. Not to mention your gums for the most part hold an original shape when you keep the denture plate in throughout the healing process... Otherwise... your gums will eventually go flat making it almost impossible to hold a denture plate in... Which in turn... you will have to get implants which are 30k or more.. I was quoted 38k when I looked into them... I have better things to do with 38k when I can just spend 2k to get immediate dentures that actually give you more benefits over having no immediate dentures... No disrespect but sounds to me like your dentist simply did not feel like doing them OR they don't know much of what they're talking about.

Dentures are not designed to prevent bone loss - only teeth do and implants help a lot. And I would think putting dentures on sore, newly stitched, swollen gums can't be too healthy for the them and will ultimately irritate the gum, cause more pain, and send the adrenals and cortisone levels into over-drive causing more health problems.

I think it all depends on the dentist as to whether or not they want to do the relines, not necessarily if it affects the healing process for immediates. I have spoken to 2 oral surgeons and both agreed that immediates do not affect healing process, but rather helps the healing process.. they act as a bandage.. and can actually promote healing. I have went to about 20 dentists.. no lie! Each of them had their own opinion on the matter.. I chose to go with the dentist that does them in office, he just won't do the lower partial right away until I get use to the upper first. But my surgeon, is also doing the gum smoothing.. so I'm sure that makes a difference also.. Whatever works for you though... I feel like this video is more opiniated then facts.... but if you (you in general) want to save money and can go without teeth then do it. I couldn't and once I got confirmation from 2 surgeons that it doesn't do anything to slow healing down I was on board lol... Best luck to all going thru this journey... it's difficult.. and it can be stressful... but it'll be alright at the end of the process...

It's been a week since I had my extractions and got my dentures. They were a little bit loose that first week but after my follow up visit yesterday, he said my gums were healing fine and I could start using adhesive. After putting in a small amount of adhesive the dentures fit so much better. I plan to get a soft realign in a few weeks and to get permanent dentures in roughly a year or so. I couldn't imagine going months without teeth.

Molly, thanks for your video. I'm Dana, live in East TX & am disabled. I've lost several teeth over the last 10-15 yrs because my teeth have always been very weak since childhood, & vomiting daily for 2 yrs from a failed lapband & Crohn's disease for 5 yrs now which causes vomiting for hours when it flares has taken a huge toll on my remaining teeth; they're breaking off & crumbling; crowns are about to come out, etc. I'm disabled because of Crohn's & severe arthritis & only receive Social Security every month, so I haven't even been able to afford to see a dentist for 3 years. I know dentures are my only option now; my sister is going to help me financially, thank God, but need to do everything as inexpensively as possible because I'll be paying her back; I'm sure I wouldn't qualify for financing if anyone even offers it. I have NO IDEA where to even begin -- find a dentist who'll pull my remaining teeth or go somewhere that does everything at one place? There's an Aspen Dental & Affordable Dentures in my area, but I've been scouring the internet for information & both places have overwhelmingly negative reviews, so it makes me not want to go to either. There's also Hollywood Dental that had several positive reviews. I'm so upset & feel so devastated that I even need dentures that I'm crying all day, every day & feel completely hopeless... Any advice or suggestions you can provide would be appreciated so much. Sorry this is so long; I felt I needed to tell you my whole story. Have you considered going to Mexico for your dentures? There's also a dentist in San Diego who does free implants; Dr Hurst; he has videos on You Tube. But you have to get there on your own; I don't have $ for that. Thank you.

Maisybo B wow! I feel for you! I am glad your sister can help you out! Personally, if I were in your shoes (just my opinion here) I would try someplace that does the whole package. I know Aspen dental gets some bad feedback but lets face it, most people are more apt to give a bad review than a good one. I would take my chances and hope I had good success. Do you have any kind of insurance at all? I know nothing of TX state insurance but where I am they at least cover extractions. If I was really strapped for money I would worry about getting the extractions done first and then dentures when I could afford. Mouth pain is no fun and causes havock on your body. Having no teeth is the obvious downside but at least that would be done. There is a guy on etsy who does dentures for people at a very cheap cost but also good quality. You do the impressions and measurments at home and he makes them up for you. His name is Russell Klein. He has very good reviews. There are also some utube videos about those as well. Maybe that would be an option for the denture. Also have you checked into universities? They do dental work for a much less cost. I would be wary of free implants. Haven't looked into that person but that scares me more than having no teeth at all lol. Not sure if I helped you at all but I would definatly do what you feel is best and affordable for you. Good luck to you!

I had all of my teeth out on June 20th. I, too, decided with my dentist to not waste money on the immediate dentures. What I will be having done is a standard full upper denture and an implant supported bottom denture. Not including the extractions the cost will be 5,500.00. Of course, I live in a rural area so the cost is more reasonable. An elderly aunt paid twice as much for the same thing in a large metropolitan area and immediate dentures she was miserable with. I timed all of this so all but 200.00 of the extractions was covered by my dental insurance. The dental insurance yearly amount of 2,000.00 resets Oct. 1st. By that time I will be ready for my dentures to be done, or shortly thereafter. I will get the two implant things put into my lower jaw on Aug 18th. It can take 8 weeks or longer for the bone to graft to the implant. Ultimately my out of pocket will be between 3,000 and 3,100 after insurance. We get a discount because we are paying cash instead of getting that dental loan that dentists can offer, what they call "financing." We opened a personal line of credit at our bank to cover the cost with a super low interest rate compared to putting it on a credit card. Going out in public with no teeth is a very humbling experience. People will look, you can almost see what they are thinking. It is so stereotypical since I live on a mountain in Appalachia! I just square my shoulders and carry on. It is what it is, and I refuse to stop living and doing what I love, in public. I am fortunate that I am retired so I do not have to deal with a work situation. Stay strong, the time will fly. Thank goodness I make a killer beef stew! Easy to eat, and there is always chocolate. It melts!

I have been able to eat and drink & everyone whos close to me is suprised how they look just like my own & how fast i was able to talk normal compared to some denture wearer's. I know everyone is different but i wouldnt of done this any different. I was sore of course and careful about what eating, or using straws still but no pain killers since day 3 except ibuprofen and salt water rinses. I will go bk in week to have them checked. They were pricey but my insurance really covered alot. Immediate doesnt mean temporary, i checked out alot of dentists and the fees & procedures varied alot. The price i paid wasnt cheap of course, but waiting for same set for longer period of time cost about same and wasnt all bs follow ups that all other places tried to say they would charge for. Sure i have go have them adjusted but there are ways of keeping shrinkage to minimum

This video has been very helpful. I just finished having 11 teeth pulled a week ago and have a diy kit for when I’m able to take impressions (I could likely do the partial on bottom - all back molars since they’re feeling great, but my upper front extraction sites are still very tender). I was on the fence about trying to get immediate dentures. The past week has convinced me that I’m not likely to be able to comfortably wear dentures right away. State insurance will pay for dentures, but not immediate ones so I’d have to pay for them myself....$450 at a sliding scale clinic, much more elsewhere. Doing snap-in dentures is unlikely for me to ever have that much money, but your video did get me to thinking... if I forego *immediate* dentures (that I very well may not be able to comfortably wear anyway) and put that money with what I *could* save up, I could get a REALLY nice set of permanent dentures when I’m fully healed (the ones the state make.... they’re better than no teeth and better than what I had in my mouth, but the ones I’ve seen others wearing, not exactly what I want my teeth to look like).

The cost of the immediates are crazy and I want to be able to talk, eat and function without a mouthfull of adhesive and going to the dental office multiple times a week to have them adjusted. I just had all upper teeth extracted, coming to the doctor with an x-ray, and they say I can't proceed with snap ins right now (they are much cheaper in my country, about $4000 per jaw). So I couldn't do it right now, and what I had to do is to wait half a year until the bone is properly formed, that's necessary for implants to hold. And for this, I'd have to put some pressure on the bone, regularly. As far as I see, immediate dentures are not only about aestethics, it's also about keeping your bone in shape. That's why I'm currently making dentures (not exactly immediate dentures, I've had few visits already and will pick them in a week. Costed me $250 in my country. Most 3rd world countries keep prices as low as this

I had my full mouth extraction w sleep sedation June 2017. Ended up having bone spirs so had a 2nd procedure in August 2017. Unfortunately I lost about half of my gums after the 2nd surgery. But after having 2 different sets of stitches. There was NO WAY I was shoving anything in my mouth. Lol. I waited until November until I felt that my mouth was healed enough and I was ready for my teeth. I went home with both my tips and bottoms in January 2018. With me I had a lot of readjusting . I have a pair of beautiful teeth but the problem I'm having is my gag reflex for the top. So I really don't wear mine. I'm still working on wearing them but I'm ok without my teeth. Just sucks when I take pics. Thank you for letting the world know it's ok to wait until your mouth is fully healed.

I know this sounds cruel but nothing ventured nothing gained...... I fought the same battle. I had total extraction and bone shaping by a maxeofacial surgeon (three and a half hours worth) at a cost of 5,700.00. Then after eight weeks waiting for swelling to go down had my temps done at a cost of 1,400.00. I have had one reline done so far after eight weeks. Will do the remainder myself. At the end of one year will have my perms done with mini implants on the bottom. My insurance paid very little so the rest is on me. I took a loan from my 401K at work to cover everything. You may not have that option I don't know. My journey was caused by the onset of peridontal disease. My dentist said it was time to "start over" so a plan was put together and the finances put in place. I don't regret any of it. My health was restored along with my smile and now I can eat without pain etc....I agree you loose some vanity and dignity but only for a short while. I hope only the best for you. You are a very attractive lady even now so I wish you all the best till it is over and it will end. Just give it a little more time.

I wanted to get the all on four denture implants, as well. I did the same thing you did, looked videos on it and came across Kalinjax's vids. I was all set while I watched her first video, until I heard her mention that you have to go in for cleanings two to three times a year. She explained how they remove the the dental screws that attach the denture to the gums and remove the abutments to clean the implants. That is something that these dentists aren't promoting, while they are encouraging people to get those. I wouldn't want to do that in this economy. Why? For me, someone who is low income-I began thinking about what happens if I can't afford to have the cleanings? Also, if you can't afford the good quality dentures that would be best with that procedure, you'll have even more of an expense latter on.

If I knew then what I know now, I might have opted to NOT get immediate dentures. Mostly for financial reasons. Although insurance covered the extractions and immediate dentures, I had to pay $2000 (up front) for the constant visits for adjustments, soft reline, hard reline, etc. But I was in a position where I could stay home and heal. Looking back at things now I question whether I should've rested up at home and used that $2000 towards my permanents instead. The temporaries are mostly cosmetic, with limited functionality (speaking, eating). It seems that just when you get them adjusted/relined just right, they have to be replaced with permanents. OTOH, I was told you want to keep the temporaries as backups, in case your permanents get damaged. All I know is I'm out of pain for the first time in years and don't have to laugh with my mouth covered anymore.

@katjakongesor1846 жыл бұрын
@@rosea.strehler9037 Hi Rose 🌹, to be honest, I still don't know lol. My process so far is, after my extractions, i saw my dentist a week later and he did the impressions, that took literally 5 minutes! The very next day he put the finished plate in to make sure it fit, then he came back in and there was soft wax on them (no teeth had been placed, just for the gum fitting), he lined them up with my remaining 8 bottom front teeth and had me softly bite down to ensure they aligned properly. Now, because I have always had a slight underbite, he is going to adjust them so it won't be as prominent or noticeable (I am happy about that ☺ ), we then chose the best color.. Next week the teeth will have been placed and we will see if all lines up well and looks good. If he or I want any changes, they will be done then.. I don't know if I will get them then, or if I will have to come for the final product the next day. Now, because the gums continue to shrink, these will be temporary for about 6 months, then I go for realignment. In all, I have been without teeth for about 3 weeks and I am glad because my gums needed time to heal. You make due and deal with it, its definitely an adjustment, but a temporary one. The end result will be worth it I'm sure. It feels weird and awkward, but it's temporary. I hope I was able to help answer some questions. Have you started your process? If you'd like to email each other, my email is katlovesjesus1966@gmail.com I'd love to hear from you. God bless you ♥

Excuse me but people have been wearing upper and lower dentures for decades and have been doing pretty well without implants. I am sick and tired of “Denturists” telling people they have to get implants. Also what is this “immediate denture” crap they now call it, they should offer permanent denture or if you want implants a temporary denture. Dentist offices do not make money off of us who have no teeth because let’s face it we don’t need teeth cleaning every three months. However when you get implants you absolutely need adjustments regularly and it is costly. This is an industry scaring people away from dentures when they have been around forever. My denturist told me as well that she can’t guarantee a bottom denture and that she felt I need implants due to “low bone” and rather than give me a permanent lower after healing she said Il have to have temporary bottoms and make the decision later. I said unless you pay for me or do it free I want permanent bottom dentures. I think the industry is training them away from non implants to implants but insurance companies have yet to catch up.

I have had implants for 9 years and they are all doing well so now it just feels "normal" to implant the denture for a more secure, more normal kind of fit. I have not seen any videos where denture/implants cause problems and the implants stabilizes the jaw and cause less bone loss. But implants can get infected and they do fail.

Yeah, it's roughly $2500 per tooth so 6 teeth for the All On 6 is $15K. Most don't have that. It's kind of a sad reality, implants are great but most don't have dental plans that cover it so it's almost like it's existence doesn't matter. Then add in implant failure and it's more trouble than it's worth...

OMGosh, you're preaching to the choir, I've done everything you mentioned but you did make me think of the "vanity" of it all. My dentist (and perio) said the gums would have to heal a lot longer than two months though. If I have to go 6 mos. to a year, I would rather have a temp...How long do you have to wait for a perm. denture? What should I do??? So hating this situation...ugh!

My dentist doesn't recommend immediate dentures. So sometime this summer I bought something off Amazon for appearance only.

I totally agree with you. Can you give us suggestions on the diet we expect on what we can eat during those few months of healing?
