I have owned a NuCanoe Frontier 12 for about 6 years. I looked at different sit on tops for a long time before getting the Frontier. I wanted an open floor plan so i could take my 84# chocolate lab hunting and fishing with me. I also like that i can add that second seat to bring my wife or other family and friends. This boat is the most stable kayak or canoe i have ever used. I can stand up and use it like a SUP, or cast standing. My dog can move around without rocking the boat at all! He loves fishing and when i am netting a trout, he is hanging his head over to try to retrieve it. No problem with tipping. I think the paddle that NuCanoe sells works well and i haven't found a lighter one that is as long. It also works well with my Old Town 119. The Frontier is slow compared to narrower kayaks but tracks great. On bigger water ,i use my Minn Kota with the trolling plate added to the transom. Having power makes trolling so easy. The extension on my extension on the Minn Kota saves a lot of twisting to control the motor. This boat holds a lot of gear. If i could change one thing about the Frontier,it would be to have it about 10-15# lighter. My Frontier without seats weighs 74#. I load it solo on my Pilot using a Yakima loader assist bar that slides into the horizontal bar on the rack. I can do it at 69 years old but a few pounds less would be nice! Have fun with your Kayak! thanks for the video!

Nice to know that you can handle your kayak at 69 years, Don! WAYDAGO! I'm 71 and very fit, and am new to fly fishing. Thinking that the Frontier or the UNLIMITED would work well for me in the mangroves, rivers, and bays in SW Florida. Don't know whether to motorize it or equip it with pedals. Either will add weight.

@OutdoorHighlife3 жыл бұрын
@@steveshort6217 Awesome man! Thanks! I ordered the trolling motor mounting kit from nucanoe and it works well. I would just make sure that your specific trolling motor mount combined with the kit is big enough to to fit on transom of nucanoe. Mine wasn't, but I made it work, but I have an older trolling motor, so you may not have that issue.

I have had my wife and son in it with me out on the lake and it does OK. With and adult and 2 kids, it should work out fine. Just depends on weight and size of everyone, along with what type of water your going to be in.

Looking for a kayak for duck hunting, but fairly new to kayaks in general. How is paddling with a swivel seat?
@OutdoorHighlife3 жыл бұрын
I havent had any problems paddling it, but I'm using a trolling motor on lakes and drifting on rivers most of the time.

How is paddling a 41" wide kayak? I imagine you need a very long paddle to avoid hitting the sides when you paddle? Also how is tracking when your gliding?
@OutdoorHighlife3 жыл бұрын
Its definately not the fastest kayak out there, but considering its width, paddling and tracking are good. It's have an adjustable paddle extended to its max length and it does fine.
@johnkillinger70783 жыл бұрын
Not bad to paddle at all as long as there is little or no wind and you need the longer paddle

Nice review. Thanks. How stable maneuverable is it in a swift moving river
@OutdoorHighlife3 жыл бұрын
I haven't had it in real swift water yet. The rivers and lakes I have used it on so far have been fairly calm. It's very stable. Havent had to maneuver it in any really swift water yet. I plan on putting it to the test over the next couple months as I have a few trips planned.

I've got an old, heavy 24# thrust minkotta and it handles it just fine. You could probably put all the way up to a 55# thrust on there and it would carry it just fine.

Would you have waited and gotten the unlimited model if you had known about it? I was looking at getting a frontier 12 but the speed of the unlimited looks like has been greatly improved at least on paper im still waiting to see a KZbin review here on KZbin.
@OutdoorHighlife3 жыл бұрын
Yes, considering it's only 100 dollars more and some of the new features, I would have probably went with the unlimited. However, I am sometimes leery of new models of any product, due to the fact that you just never know what kinks may have not been worked out yet. They may look good in theory and on paper, but in practice they dont fit your needs. But the unlimited looks great, like you said there are just not alot of reviews on it yet.

@@rodrigoelgu I'm not sure. I carry mine truck racks and I have a trailer also. I've seen guys on KZbin put them on SUV. Not sure what your ride is like, but If you can find a way to strap it down or have some kind of rack you can probably can car top it.

Your anchor is too small best to use a 10 lb with an anchor trolley so you can get the anchor on the deck , you do not need the seat, sitting is optional, lay 2 foam gym mats where you can kneel within reach of your trolling motor, best to use 45 lb or higher with a speed prop and group 30 AGM battery, 1 battery at the aft for your troll, and another towards the bow for your electronics( Fish finder, transducer, nav lights plus can be reserve as secondary for the troll battery). Your loading and off loading is taking too long, if you got to a busy single lane boat ramp you will pissed people off. This vessel is not easy to paddle in 15+ winds and you will not be comfortable in 2-4 swells sitting in that seat, kneeling down on one knee keeping your center of gravity lower will make the ride more comfortable, you only need one had to operate the troll. I live in a state with unforgiving south winds, high boat traffic, unruly boaters, and all the lakes filled with timber and rocks. I remove everything and only have clear deck, I stand up and operate my long shaft 45 lb. MinnKota that you can extend the throttle arm, I mostly vertical fish standing deep structure or just deep fresh water. If I need to use live bait I bring my 20 gallon bait bucket and use the cast net( BaitBuster 1/2 mesh). Throwing the cast net you will get lots of water on the deck so just bring a cheap plastic long handle ladle to scoop out the water. Plus we have the Lacey so your vessel must be dry when leaving the ramp, make things easy for the inspector to see your deck is clear. Some days I just take it in a creek and just bring the paddle, it is a heavy vessel, so I use a heavy duty cart and strap the canoe on top of it and haul it 2-3 hundred yards to the launch. I love this vessel, not a fan of Hobie, for the price of loading out with troll motor and 2 AGM group 30 batteries still cheaper than base price Hobie. Enjoy and be safe. I am a nut, I can catch live shad in 50+ deep.
