Luke, Im now 43 and not too long ago I was in your position with a job making 6 figures but it became a job that I loathed...but felt trapped. After chasing money for my entire life, I had to make a change. My soon to be wife and I done a lot of soul searching. We discussed our finances and what would have to go. We ended up selling both our bigger/nicer houses and bought a fixer upper with cash. I took a year off of work to refocus while her and I remodled the entire house ourselves. We now have a house thats paid for and couldnt be happier. I atarted working again back in May '22 and now, with my disabilty that I finally had time to do without having a 9-5, make more than I did before. Yes, my 'career' job paycheck took a hit but Im happier. I dont live with all the stress that I had for over 8 years and i still have whats important which is my (now) wife, a roof that no one can ever take away...and my boat! Lol! All that to say, you're right...people will need to make sacrifices but if theyre willing...things CAN get better. Sont chase money...chase happiness. And that doeant come from money. Keep pushing for what makes you and your family happy brother.

Luke, I listen to this and feel like you are speaking directly to me. I find myself in a similar situation at a job that i used to enjoy but has become something that I HATE!! Not sure how I got here and some people tell me hang in there it will pay off other say just get out, but like you I have to support my wife and kids. I admit that it is hard to take that step and I applaud you for taking the leap and wish you all the luck in the world and hopefully at some point I will gain the courage that you have and just jump. Thank you for sharing your story and I hope it helps me gain some confidence.

Dude, I feel exactly what you're saying. Lived many, many years in the corporate world. Just fill in the blank industry, it is all the same. Cut throat and CYA. So so thankful all that is over for me. I managed to land here late in my life owning a little South Georgia bait & tackle store - work 7 days a week and have never been happier!

LOL! AMEN! My wife & I spent over 30+ years in Civil Service, & neither have happy memories. We didn't have the guts to find that "Great Job" that would have made those 30+ years happy. Kudos on your wife for giving you a kick in the ass to get you out of the "BAD HOB NEST" you were reluctant to leave. I don't remember your time on "pro fishing", but there were a ton of fine fishermen that were on the circuit that I never knew. I was too busy being busy! 79 now, wish I had had the guts to do what you've done. But times were different in "The Good Ole Days"! They REALLY weren't, we just didn't have avenues that are open today to see options! Best to you & your family, keep slapping them in the face with facts & truth.

Great talk Luke! The reason the country is in the shape it's in is because people are conditioned to keep their mouth shut and chase the money. Folks need to start standing up for themselves and not let people bully them, take control of your life that's where happiness is.

I knew something was up there. I ordered products that just never shipped. Got an email that said it was all a warehouse issue. Months go by and I canceled the orders. I waited several months and just ordered led lights for my new boat. I have received the compartment lights and am still waiting on the deck lights. Nothing like the orders I placed in the past that arrived quickly. It seems like the more money I spend the slower the shipping.

Luke, first & foremost, I applaud you for saying this out loud!! So many folks need to hear it. I know we haven’t spoken in a couple years, but you crossed my mind last night on my way home from work. I hadn’t caught one of your Podcasts in a while, so I went straight to KZbin to catch up….and this is the video I found! (Some would call it coincidence…I think everything happens for a reason 😊). Although I’m sad to hear of the turn of events with T-H, you and I both know that “the industry” is no longer what it once was & hasn’t been for quite some time. When you spoke about loyalty, it hit me like a ton of bricks. You and I both know that my “loyalty” of 21 years left me without a job on this very day in January 2021. You were one of the first people I called when it happened. It took a while to pick up the pieces and leave an Industry that was my life, up until that point, for all of my adult career! I started in the Marine industry at the age of 23 & then moved to Nashville at 26 & got what (at the time) was my “dream job”. I put everything into that Company & thought that’s where I would retire. However, the changes that began to happen within the Company around 2018 were the first red flag. Instead of listening to my gut, I continued to pour my life into an organization that no longer had my back. I ignored the signs that were telling me they didn’t share the same loyalty because I was afraid to start over at the age of 47. Instead, I was blindsided by a poor excuse as to why they were letting me go upon my return from Xmas Break in January 2021. I say all of this to hopefully help someone out there…don’t be afraid of what lies ahead if you make a career change! The windshield is bigger than the rear-view mirror for a reason! I found a great Company that appreciates what I bring to the table & I’m happy. The grieving process of leaving the Marine industry was harder than I ever imagined, but I am in such a better place now & I’m grateful for my blessings. Luke, I wish you so much success in whatever you plan to pursue moving forward! You are an awesome human being & a great friend! Love ya, man!! Take care!!

Good move bro! I did the same thing in 2018. Took a monetary hit to improve quality of life, hurt at first, adjusted to the change, and have never regretted it. Multiplication by simplification! Hang in there bro! Worry less, pray more, and love on your family every chance you get. "Titles" are stupid. Roles are way more important. Rule #10... "Never become unequally yoked". You just unhitched from a toxic relationship and you will be healthier for it. God bless.

I'm curious what the clause or language looks like in the contract that fines the anglers for voicing their opinion or statement. I understand it is a private organization.... but if the angler is making a statement on their personal time, which is the truth or based on facts, and does not violate a confidentiality agreement, not sure a court would enforce that... I dont think any anglers have disclosed anything that isn't publicly available... They have only opined on MLF's public plans privately. Unless they made some defamatory or untruthful statement, MLF has no power to control an anglers opinions. I dont know though, I think a good lawyer could win in a lawsuit against the MLF, buf then again the angler has to decide if they want to remain a part of the league..

@@LukeDunkinsTravelingCircus not at all. Your a grinder, that's obvious with all the time you put in w multiple endeavors. I guess my point was, I went through the same shit. Ended up in mgr. Refused to let it whoop me, stayed stressed , worked too much. Ended up leaving a career after twenty years. In hindsight I should have said no sometimes, and not cared as much. We have to be careful and not be our own worst enemy. Good luck brother.

Mr. Dunkin I am just trying to rationalize why did NPFL allow an angler back into their tournaments when said angler has broken rules previously? Does NPFL care more about sportsmanship, which you and all low lifers care about , or did NPFL over look theses issues for the $$$$? Or does sponsorship $ have more pull than sportsmanship? Please reach out to fat cat and the NPFL because it seems fishy to me. Love your podcast!

If you're going to bring it up, say who you are talking about. That's the only way it can be addressed clearly.
@LukeDunkinsTravelingCircus
@LukeDunkinsTravelingCircus 9 ай бұрын
Well, first I'd like to say that Fat Cat and I have ZERO to do with who does or doesn't fish the NPFL. We are the commentators. We also have zero to do with sponsorships. I do however understand what you're laying down haha. The angler is not affiliated with a League sponsor that I'm aware of. I can assure the League is about sportsmanship. All I know is a LOT of organizations allow this angler I believe you're talking about to compete. I have my thoughts on the matter. I'e shared them multiple times on the show.

I agree Mr. Dunkin , you have ; that’s what is so troubling. Let me ask a different way then, Did the league over look Mr. Soukop violations for the $$$$ in tournament entry? I am upset with BASS just the same, think about it, a spot being taken by someone who has broken the rules and just like you said today again, JT Kenny stated; we cover up what needs talked about…

I have left more than one job without another lined up due to having principles that are more important than taking shit from anyone or a business changing due to a buyout. I earn a lot less today than i used to but will happily die a pauper than compromise my own beliefs. I see too many wage slaves that can't look you in the eye, whipped and cowed for the sake of having a new car on the drive to impress the neighbours. Some people have fuck you money, i bought a fuck you house that i could still afford without a full time job, great way to guarantee your freedom of will :)

To be honest just listen to a tiny bit of this. If people care more about GOD, Country and Family and Bass Fishing Gossip or tournaments or anything else rules your live then you all got it so very wrong. Without GOD you don't have a Country and without a country you certainly have no place to raise or establish a Family. Your giving your Country away by putting GOD last.

@LukeDunkinsTravelingCircus wasn't entirely directed at you just that people lose sight of what's really important in life. I watched the rest of your video a you touched on money isn't everything etc. Judging maybe but I know it is also good advice to put GOD,COUNTRY and FAMILY first. By the way we are all the worst judge of ourselves if your born again there is no judging, just humans judging humans is all that's left.

I know how you feel Luke. I worked for a small Oil Company in South Texas and 2 of us built up a field of oil wells that sold for 1.3 billion. 100 hour weeks for years and I knew where every pipe in the ground. It sold and Here come the people, people hired everywhere and elbowing for position. Company finally took over and I got laid off because of being a threat to the new people and ceos. They called me 9 months after trying to ask me questions about where, how and why. Keep yourself happy Luke a lot of times the money and headache are not worth it. Quality over everything

Great podcast Luke. I’ve been in management almost all of my adult life. I’ve always been loyal and honest. Hindsight is always 20/20 and as I’ve gotten older good old boys and girls with their on agenda seem to control everything. The last year and a half I’ve been with a much better company but all the years of stress has taken control of my health and I’ve lost countless time with my family. I’ve always prided myself on building good teams and helping people grow but today you have to be more politically correct than ever before and no matter how much you make or save your company long term it just doesn’t seam to matter. I also agree with you on MLF and companies like the NFL that control the narrative and fine people that have an investment because they are vocal about issues that occur and impact people negatively. I appreciate your honesty, attitude and openness on this podcast and I wish you the best of luck in the future for you and your family!

Very enlightening pod im in a similar situation struggling with stress and trying to figure how to retire or move on hard to walk away from the $$$ but big companies don't care about their people anymore . Im a tool distributor and each year the quotas go up if you don't keep up they want you out no matter the reason been doing it 23 year's harder to sell with the high cost .Gave me lots to think about GOD bless and good luck it works out in the end . I to went through a divorce that broke me but made me stronger having to swim upstream and have a better life for it you made me reflect was good and sad to think about. Thanks be praying for you.

I invested every penny I made from 18-40 in tech stocks. Built a charter business that charters for Tuna/Striper/and other pelaigics. Built up to 13 boats .Fished tournaments out of an old bass boat with a rebuilt engine, slept in the back of my truck on a mattress at tournaments, and worked every day I wasn’t fishing, all because I knew I could retire by 40. I’m almost 43, sold the whole business at 41, I do consulting on the side, and fish and hunt all year, because that’s what is truly important. Now I have that new Bass Boat and truck, and nobody can tell me what I can do or say. I couldn’t live like that.
