there is Inkscape for illustrator; GIMP or Krita for photoshop; Cinelerra-gg[linux only] or kdenlive for premiere; Natron for after-effects; scribus for indesign; figma or penpot for Xd; darktable or rawtherapee for lightroom; zathura[terminal-tool:reader] or xpdf[reader] or your web browser, libresign or docuseal [signatures], libreoffice or inkscape [editing-pdf] for adobe acrobat there is also effekseer for general vfx and soundux for a soundboard tool. Years ago I switched away from Adobe to Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher, DaVinci Resolve, PDF Expert, and I never looked back. It was shocking to me how it took a ‘major event’ for people to realize Adobe isn’t worth their wallets-but progress is progress.

Pdf expert isn't open source and is only available for Mac. I guess if you use mac you kinda have to go with it. Everything else is a cool choice though

Do t forget Photopea. Browser based Photoshop clone. I have the affinity suite too but Photopea is great for when I have to do some work on a random PC that doesn't have anything installed already.

I recently bought the Affinity Suite! As far as I've used it, it's way better than Adobe right off the bat! It's faster, takes less storage, and to me feels more intuitive too.

One of the most important things said: Support the alternatives. Affinity, DaVinci, Krita, Inkscape, Blender. Spend a few $ to keep the ecosystem strong. Single source = trouble.

Henry, thank you so much for the reminder. I have always hated this company but I needed it for work😭it is behaving like such a control freak to users and it buying out every competitor is just BS. I hate that I am paying them to encourage this behaviour, I need to see when my sub ends and make the switch.

Myself and many others are still trying to convince Serif to port their Affinity suite to Linux. That is a _MASSIVE_ untapped market, and they keep turning a deaf ear to us. But Linux _needs_ a professional creative suite. I have seen far too many people say they would switch to Linux in a heartbeat, but they can't because they need Adobe for their work. Now, an increasing number are saying the same but about Affinity and not Adobe.

As the owner of a small creative company, I've got a outright ban on Adobe products for all the reasons listed in this video. Yeah, the like three people in my org aren't a huge difference, but it's a start, and the more creatives that get off Adobe the better we'll be as a community.

I haven't paid Adobe a penny since they switched to the subscription model. Even back then, I had an idea of where this would lead. I always look around for open source alternatives before I buy a new app. Unfortunately, I'm pretty much alone in this. I try to make people aware, but just like with privacy issues, it usually fails due to laziness or habit.

I still have to deal with them robbing me of my moneys cause the cancellation fee is still too much for me to pay for. When I found out about it a couple of months ago it triggered me considering I actually looked for cancellation stuff before I bought it and nun showed up till the recent months when adobe was getting deserved hate for the AI and file stuff. I honestly do hope adobe gets clapped for this and can’t come back to do it again

What is awful about this is if you work in a corporate scenario where the company you work for pays for it and you are forced to use it because of their choices. In those situations, I have chosen to focus on bringing up alternatives for the company from time to time. Also, definitely rooting for the FTC to hit Adobe with everything they've got, this is textbook "unfair or deceptive acts or practices in the marketplace."

They tried to charge me hundred and something dollars for a PDF reader because I forgot to cancel the trial. And then they locked me into a contract so even if I canceled I would still be paying hundred dollars.

Not being able to buy their software is reason why I don't buy it. I don't want subscriptions, I want software that still runs 10 years later. So in that sense adobe has done mistake that if with buying they got get $400 from me once per 10 years then with subscription they get $0 from me but I am still using their software.....

One of the main reasons I left was because I defaulted to using Adobe products even if they weren’t the best just because I was paying for it. My creativity and skill set suffered because the apps did not always work well and caused friction. With healthy competition and the backlash Adobe has received the past few months, maybe Adobe will do better for their users who stay.

Good job with the video, very good summary of the whole situation. The editing is on point, too. In terms of workflow, I like using the Affinity Suite, DaVinci Resolve and Blender. Affinity products, especially, are getting to a point where they are actually a solid, if not better, replacement to the mainstream Adobe apps.

I use the free trial, but I use the free trial for monthly not for yearly. I sometimes need to use Acrobat so I sign up the free trial and end it without paying for it.

Davinci Resolve is really a lot more superior to premiere , affinity suite is a pretty good alternative to photoshop and illustrator, unfortunately I have not found a good alternative for after effects yet , maybe fusion but not really

9:07 linus tech tips did a video on why he uses Adobe software and that it costs so much. The bottom line is cross compatibility. The same file will open in photoshop, illustrator, import to after effects and premiere Pro without converting or such.
