I've got a G700, but I'm just a hobby woodworker, so I don't have constant fill up issues. I do have the issue with the filters getting clogged, and it's incredibly annoying and can take up whatever free time I have to woodwork. It's a gamble every time on if the filters will clog before I get the alert for the bins being full. I also don't have much space in my shop, which is why I got the G700 to start with. I need to look into, maybe, building a small shed type thing to put a standard dust collector in it so it doesn't take away from the space I have.
@WoodshopMike Жыл бұрын
I hear ya. The G700 is appealing in that it can be stuffed into a tight space, but honestly the footprint is larger than something like the supercell. The CFM is higher on the G700, but the static pressure on the super cell is insane!
@bobbray96665 ай бұрын
I make sure to self clean the filters after every bin dump. Also need to turn the speed down if using a planer with a short hose directly to the G700, otherwise the air velocity sucks the chip past the bins and directly into the filters. Since I moved into my new shop with maybe 20' of 6" pipe and elbows, I don't have problems with my filters getting jammed up.

I switched out a large Clearvue unit for the G700 a couple of years ago because it was more appropriate for my home shop application. Those big capacitor-start Lesson motors don't really like to be switched on and off repeatedly, but that's how I work. I found myself changing out burned up capacitors too often.That's not an issue with a G700's variable frequency drive and I can dial back the speed for long CNC operations when not as much suction is needed. Other than a few quality issues with the bin seals and gaskets, the G700 is a good fit for me as I don't do a lot of planing or other operations that would fill the bins too quickly. The main issue is that, unlike the Clearview and Oneida cyclones, the impeller is located before the dust separator. So if you suck up some small offcuts, they will strike the impeller. Fine for dust, but not a great design for floor sweeping etc.

Just sold mine for a supercell. While louder, I’m much happier with the design. So many things drove me crazy about the Harvey. Storage (size and emptying bags), instant shut off for bins full as you mentioned yet still having space, on/off switch on the back, constant flickering display while not running and most of all, the port on the front.

For the systems being in the noise of the same price, I agree the super cell is the better solution. 👍👍

I don't understand why people care about how loud a dust collector is.. You're never using a dust collector while doing something like hand sanding.. A power tool is always running, jointer, planer, table saw.. All very loud tools.. Not sure why one being quieter is a great feature.. The shop is still loud
@nportercaw Жыл бұрын

Ironically, 12 years ago I replaced my cyclone with drum for the same reason you replaced the G700. Mine only had a 35 gallon drum but it filled way too quickly and emptying was a chore. I ended up with a 2 bin Felder RL160 that I found used and has much greater capacity. The weight of the full bags is a bit challenging though. Steve
@WoodshopMike Жыл бұрын
I think anything less than around 55 gallons is just too little capacity for a shop that does any regular milling work. Something around the 30 gallon mark is ok if you're mainly running saws, but if jointing and planning moderate volumes of lumber for furniture is a regular task you'll be constantly stopping regardless of what system you run. I'd thought about going for a dual drum setup, but with my height limitation it would be tricky (unless I had two shorter 35 gal drum). Yeah, I'm thinking my hand truck is going to be getting a lot more use now lol! But at least now I can get through a milling session without having to stop 3 times 😀

does the supercell have a runtime limit? and how do you like the sound compared to the impeller unit? I've been flipping between the two for ages and can't decide, haha! I think the supercell would fit much better in my small shop, but I'm worried it's not able to run constantly all day.

I've run mine for hours on end without issue. I prefer the noise of the dust gorilla pro to the super cell, but at the end of the day I'm wearing ISOtunes and listening to music or podcasts so it's not a big deal for me. Hope that helps 👍

Hmmm I have a new G700 sitting on my back porch. Hope I haven’t screwed myself. I went with it for several reasons: 1) noise - we have a little shouse up in the mezzanine of my shop that we’ll be living for a bit. And 2), I’m offgrid and the slow ramp up of the 3-phase will not slam my inverters and batteries as much as a conventional system. Still worry that screwed the pooch though. Then again, it’s not a production shop.

have: 3HP Sawstop with floating arm and 19” grizzly 3 hp bandsaw. Will have: 12 or 16” Minimax planer/jointer…I haven’t decided yet. My shop is a decent size but it needs to pull metal fab and auto/tractor repair duties too. I bought the US made Norfab clone piping (mostly 6 inch) via Grizzly. This still needs to be installed. Also have a festool dust extractor with cyclone and boom arm that can cover down on some things.

I don’t have a CNC, but my G700 makes me crazy because the filters clog quickly, even id you do the ‘self cleaning’ routine. And it is time consuming to get to the filters to clean them. I am wondering if I can redirect the g700 to room air filtration duties with its HEPA filters….

I'm diligently researching a vacuum system for my new shop so please forgive my caution as revealed by my questions: 1. Are you sponsored by, or given a discount by Oneida or is this an 'unencumbered ' review? 2. Do you plan on putting together a future review of your Oneida systems? I found your critical review of the Harvey G700 very helpful. Thank you.

Hey Dane! No worries at all and those are great questions to ask. 1. Yes, they sent out the units. I didn't get paid, but we did collaborate on this video. That's why the "Includes Paid Promotion" icon came up at the beginning of the video (Not trying to sound rude by mentioning that, just letting you know 👍) I call a spade a spade though and regardless of sponsored/unsponsored content I give my honest opinion of products. 2. I don't have a plan at the moment to do a follow up review (mainly because I've been covered up building guitars for clients lately and my head is still spinning 😂) but it's definitely a possibility and if there end up being issues that I think people need to hear about I'll absolutely share them. I'm glad my view on the G700 was helpful. If you have any other questions I'm happy to chat. Glad the video was helpful, Cheers!

Can you comment on the noise level of the units versus the G700? Might not be an issue in a production shop, but for a hobbyist...
@WoodshopMike10 ай бұрын
Sure! The G700 is the quieter than the Dust Gorilla and Supercell, but I think the Rockler DustRight is a little quieter than the G700. That said, I'd still be wearing earmuffs when then G700 was running and the Dust Gorilla isn't perceptibly that much louder (at least not to me) and it's stats are much better (it is more expensive though). The Supercell is significantly louder, but it also has roughly 3 times the static pressure. Hopefully that helps and doesn't muddy the water for ya lol! Happy to keep chatting if you have more questions 👊 Thanks for watching, I hope the video was helpful!

If you do not run 6" ducting all the way to the machine and open up the machine ports to 6" you have just wasted your time. I did this stuff for a living and not opening up the machine ports to 6" is the single biggest mistake 99% of woodworkers make and then they complain about the dust extraction performance.
@WoodshopMike Жыл бұрын
I totally agree, that's why I was running 6" directly to the G700. 👍 The performance from the G700 was good, about 90% as good as the Dust Gorilla Pro, but the other issues of filters clogging (which really tanks the suction) and the constant bag changing is what was the biggest problem.

@@WoodshopMike I spotted conflicting numbers in the comparison chart and the separate spec. One says 700CFM for 4” ducting and the other says 700CFM for 6”. I completely understand the point your making. Some see "gifted" (really they're bartered for) items that content creators receive as just free stuff that they don't have to earn or work for. That's not the case. The videos content creators make take considerable time and resources. That aside, the Harvey unit was also provided in exchange for content as were the multiple Rockler Dust Right units I used before the Harvey. To the point you made in a previous comment, the right DC is highly dependent on an individuals needs. The Harvey is a good unit, but not the right solution for my shop. Regardless of how tools come into my shop, bought or bartered, I'll only ever give an honest take on them. Hope that clarifies my side of things a bit. Have a good one!
