"It's what it is" that mindset is maladaptive. "Monogamy is a choice" In relationships you don't talk about them or others but you. You take care of your own self-love, self-validation, self-peace, self-care. A relationship is what you purpose to make work without comparing yourself to anyone else. At the point where your thought system changes from maladaptive to adaptive, then and only then will your monogamous relationship work. Don't build a relationship from what you hear or see but what you, as a person brings to the table. If you bring attitude, you get rebellion, if you bring peace and genuine love you get royalty and double love. An individual can be in love with one person till death do us part. Cheating has a cause and that's what you guys need to talk about not the outcomes. That is why relationships are dying because than tackling cause-effect, we delve so much to the consequences of poor choices or an individual’s attitude or following other people to make your relationship work. Guys that's wrong. If you bring arrogance and carefree attitude you get double dealing and abandonment. "It is what it is" I rest my case here!

Monogamy exists. It is a choice, It is intentional. As humans, we have the power to resist temptation. Just because you can't that does not mean others can not. Do not generalize

I've been really curious about this topic for a long time. I promised myself to allocate time to study the history of marriage and monogamy, in western and other cultures

I have a hypothesis that monogamy has something to do with capitalism, but research will establish whether this is the case. Something about creating an orderly society, where children are brought up in stable family units. Because in the absence of monogamy there'd be chaos and capitalism would function as effectively (no stable sources of labor etc). So it's indeed a choice against the natural course of human function.
