Why I don't feel like sewing. Plus, a Pattern Emporium pattern haul

Sewing should be fun! Don't pressure yourself, sew only when you want or you need something. Allow yourself to rest between projects. I'm working on enjoying my sewing more and pressuring myself less! Happy New Year.

I enjoyed this chatty video. I tend to lose my sew-jo after the holidays. We spend 2 months (some people spend more) preparing, cooking, baking, decorating, sewing, making, organizing, writing cards, buying gifts, hosting, on and on. I'm just worn out come January. But I never worry about trying to get my desire to sew back. It will come back when I'm rested and have time and can enjoy it. And if it never returns and I never sew again, the world will keep turning.

What I like the most about your videos is the fact that you talk about other things and not only shows what you have been sewing. I do appreciate your perspectives and chats about patterns, styles, etc . Don't be worried about your sewjo, sometimes you just need a break and then, suddenly, you find yourself sewing again.

I love pattern emporium. They are my fav pattern company. So easy to sew, but everything looks cute. You bought several patterns I don't have, so I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with...whenever you feel like sewing again. I think it's good to have down time, that ebb and flow. I think when we start thinking we should feel differently than we do, that's when we increase our stress and misery, instead of embracing how we feel in the moment. I say get cozy, enjoy a lovely show all cuddled on the couch, and allow yourself to enjoy knitting without the guilt. You feel like this now, but it's not how you'll always feel. And it's okay ❤️

Nothing wrong with losing your sew jo. It’s a part of the process for everyone. Just relax and ride it out. Find new KZbinrs that sew in the meantime and just enjoy time spent on other interests. I don’t force it since it’s something that I want to do and not have to. If you still want to film videos continue to show us how you wear your garments for the week. Introduce us to smaller channels and maybe show us what you where up to during the time you weren’t sewing. It’s coming back.

I find re-organising my stash inspires me to start sewing again, but also at this time of year making sure the room where I sew is well lit and warm, so I'm as comfortable as I can be in there.

I sure understand loosing sewjo... I did for nearly 20 years but but life happens... but I did a lot of knitting n crochet durning that time... if you need to create you find away... I am in my reorganization phase of the year... that always helps me... I do a lot of sew the look excercises n check new to me pattern companies... by March I am usually in inspired for summer outfits... I love your new patterns I see lots of new summer looks... I love the idea of little black dress n the open shirt dress that's shown in the patterns... thank you for sharing... blessings

I find I'm so busy sewing and quilting gifts for Christmas that I love starting a new project just for me in January. I also take 2000 units of vitamin D every day in the winter. I find it really helps my mental health. Just allow yourself to rest and hibernate.

When I'm not in the mood for garment sewing I do other things. Like organize my notions; I just corralled all my trim in nets meant for spools of thread or trace off patterns, brush the fluff out of my machines, fold and organize fabric (maybe sort out some to donate). Disassemble thrifted jeans to make bags. Cut up scraps for quilting. There are so many sewing tasks that don't involve actual sewing. & If you find it interesting then so do we. Where do you get your supplies? What is your thought process in choosing to buy something? Where do you get inspiration?

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with losing your sew-Jo unless it’s bothering you. Especially if you have alternate creative outlets. BUT if you want to regain it…I think having a rough outline of “goals” is always a good idea so you have a “backup plan” if you are struggling with inspiration. I don’t wear traditional button up shirts but that one you showed has some options that I would be interested in. Thanks for sharing! Your colorblock dress sounds lovely,can’t wait to see it!

A suggestion for you about wide leg pants…and determining what you like…take your tape measure to the store. I recognize that RTW won’t fit but you are only checking for circumference at different points on your leg. Even if you try on fifty pairs, you might get a range,say, I like less than twenty inches across the thighs, but more than sixteen…and at the knee and hem. Makes target practice at modifying a pattern more helpful. I wind bobbins when I don’t feel like sewing. Something that I always need to have so isn’t wasted efforts. I will also make something for the home, like cloth napkins.

so true...but if i don't feel like sewing for myself--i definitely don't feel like sewing for him 😂
