If a woman won't put a penny in the communal pot that is a deal breaker for me. It is better to live alone than be with someone who makes you wish you were alone. I've had 3 girlfriends in Thailand and none of them wanted money. You just need to find the right person and drop any women who starts asking for things or expecting you to improve her lifestyle. Sure these aren't the prettiest and most in demand women but they make good partners.

Since my divorce being alone has never bothered me. Being single again gives me back the freedom I had lost. No more having to explain this or that to someone who thinks they own you. At the end of the day we all pass to the "other side" alone so no big deal.

the benefit to a relationship is companionship and nookie. a lot of guys in the west have very limited options in the dating market and have to take whatever they can get and put up with whatever treatment they get. Out in Thailand you can have two - three dates a week with different friends, your companionship and nookie requirements are met without having to give up all your time, money and freedom

'Only mad-dogs and Englishmen go out in the mid-day sun'! I'm married to a Thai woman, and there are some cultural differences, but to be honest money isn't one them. The first day we met she bought me dinner, then sent me a vape the following day as I'd mentioned I was trying to get off the cigs. My Mrs worked until she got pregnant, at which point I told her to stop. She's university educated, has a masters degree, and is a certified accountant - so she was very much used to providing for herself. I think it really depends on the kind of woman you hook up with, obviously a bar girl is going to be very different from a regular Thai woman, and the expectations they have will be equally different! Exactly. If she is a regular working person she is already taking care of her family. Bar girls are some of the only ones that want you to take care of their family, because you want to remove them from the bar scene.

Single life and married life here in Thailand are very different. I spent my first 20 years single and the last 26 married. I am glad to have found true love and companionship. I grew up in a single income family so I feel very comfortable supporting my wife. I do understand that is not as common these days.

Hey Wayne, I like the topic of today's video. I'd say one thing I've experienced in my dating life here is Thai ladies are very good about letting you know if they really like you. If you stick around long enough and keep at those dates, I promise you'll run into a lady who'll like you so much you'll be surprised what she's willing to do to make things work. On the other hand, many ladies here are looking for more of a business arrangement type thing (long or short term). How much she's willing to bend away from Thai cultural norms can depend on her family status, background, experience with foreign men and western culture.

I noticed relationship between Thai -Thai is more equal or 70:30 or 80:20. More realistic shopping, eating , drinking venues . In some cases even the women is supporting the man. But it changes in a Falang / Thai relationship

Spot on and very logical opinion in my view. Relationships costs money and I don’t think that the juice is worth the squeeze. Plus, I find this romantic relationship too much intrusive in my personal space. You have to share a lot. It’s not that I am some run away fugitive but I don’t like to be answerable to anybody. And there’s no way you can cool off your heels man. I am willfully unemployed for the last three years after 5 grueling years as a deep sea welder and now enjoying what life has to offer. I am no way rich but can I do it if I am in a relationship? No way. And women, no matter from what country, wouldn’t date a man who doesn’t like to work much lol.

Mate you made some very valid points. My advice though is build a valuable online skill, especially with the amazing value in Thailand which is almost unmatched by almost every country. In that way you have "options", not based on how much you make even/alone, but you are not at the mercy of a boss aka financially independent.

I absolutely love watching your videos as I can relate so much, but unlike yourself your more able to articulate exactly how you feel. I’m fortunate that I met a Chinese women with a European mindset even though she never lived abroad before meeting me. A marriage is a partnership and should be 50/50 not always in terms of money but value. To meet someone with a similar mindset you need to meet a middle class Thai who already has money but is looking for love. In China a women over 30 who isn’t married finds it more difficult to find love. It maybe similar in Thailand. I’ll be in Chiang mai for a week in March. Would be good to meet up for a beer

Good thoughts Wayne, thanks. When you say it's more about 50-50 with the English girl, I can see that. The English, Scots and Aussie gals I've known were definitely more fair and balanced than the the American, German and Italian Girls I dated, and while life with the Aussie and English ladies I felt would be comfortable, things were a bit more interesting with the Italian and German gals. The longest I was with a woman was a Thai gal and she was the best when it came to cooking and moral support, but it was hard to connect heart-to-heart, and like we were always strangers. I dated several Japanese Gals when i was in Japan and they were more like the 50-50 you describe, dedicated but a little complicated, stubborn and demanding, but usually in a good way, and for good reason that can force you to a better person. I liked the Malaysian Chinese girls, as many inherited the English colonial sensibilities and culture of fair play, with positive Asian attributes, dedication and frank honesty, and often a bit more practical of a life partner and buddy than the Thai or Japanese girls in general. Northern and provincial ladies from China can be pretty good partners too, and thinking back to China, I met some girls that the first thing they asked was how much money I had and made, and others who were more interested in the person I was and If I wold be respectful and dedicated to a relationship, and I think with Thai Ladies a lot are not all hung up on status, money or income, but like-minded life partner, but maybe not so much a close buddy.

I’ve been with my Thai wife 15 happy years. Yes any mate costs money. Even if she works she’s going to expect you to have the ability to provide just to show you are a man. I grew up in a time when my mother stayed home and never worked in the US. My grandmothers never worked out of the home but took care of the home and their men. It’s all different now of course in the west and I don’t like it. I like taking care of my woman and providing for my family. It gives my life a purpose and meaning greater than myself. Now I’m fortunate in that money will never be an issue for me and I have a great lady. But I simply do not want my wife having to work unless she just wants to. All relationships have a monetary aspect to them because money making ability is the substitute for the old ability to hunt and put food on the table. It’s perfectly natural and is what truly makes a man a man along with the ability to give her children. Men today don’t get it and are far more self absorbed, feminized and relationship gun shy. Western women are far too entitled and want things both ways without having to take care of a home or her man as she should. We can blame feminism which of course has created many issues but it’s also men letting it happen instead of insisting on certain basic things from women like respect and appreciation in return for our support. Thai women are more open to this and if you get the right one, have the willingness and ability to support her then it can work. Not that there aren’t many other cultural challenges but all in all I’m very happy in my relationship and taking care of my girl. And in return she loves and appreciates me for it. She’s much younger than me and I know as I age she’s got my back and will take care of me. That’s an important thing to consider especially if you live here in Thailand.

I Totally agree with you. Western women are far to entitled. They are never happy, no matter how much attention you give them, pamper them, wine and dine them, nice holidays, look after them financially etc. I was married for 23 years to a Western girl, had another serious relationship and lived together with another Western Woman for 7 years. I found a Thai girl and have been with her for 5 years now. Once you have had Thai there is no going back.

Wayne, have you been to the Philippines? If so, is the culture there much different than in Thailand? I personally believe the large language barrier in Thailand makes communicating, building a bond and falling in love much more difficult. This is solely based on watching videos, as I have no first hand experience (yet). The better infrastructure and similar cost of living in Thailand (among many other things) is what makes me want to live there over the Philippines. But the warmth and friendliness of the Filipinos and Filipinas toward foreigners just feels more genuine.

The language barrier is alot easier in The Phillips and the people are nice, but Thai people are also. It all depends on alot of things......food, accommodation, lifestyle, budget. Mate, spot on. I was in a relationship with a Thai girl and when I went to stay with her family, I was thinking along western lines where the hosts cover costs for the guest. While they did provide lovely meals, there was certainly the expectation I would buy certain goods etc. In hindsight this makes sense of course but at the time, I (naively perhaps) was caught by surprise. As you say, not that one way is right and one way wrong. Just different. And again as you say, *we* should adapt as we're in their country. Fair enough. 👍👍

Ah, Wayne, how could I not comment on this topic of Thai dating? But you know more than anyone watching, after all your time here, exactly how most Thai relationships work. I think there are roughly two categories of guys coming here and two categories of women. There are the bar girl/freelancer/money-grubber women, perfect for the quys who come over for casual intimate relationships. As long as they are straight with each other, fine, they are welcome to each other. But I'd say many Thai Women are sincere, family-oriented partners who would never cheat or initiate leaving their partner if he is treating her properly. You often don't get that same thing in the west. Happily there are many western men coming who also want a sincere and caring partner, so perfect for each other assuming the guy can adapt to Thai culture and expectations. You accurately summed up the expectation many have that as the guy you will be the breadwinner. To me, it is like America (and maybe Europe too) in the 50s and 60s when one partner worked and one cared for the home, both working hard in their own way. So I don't look at it at all as if the woman is taking advantage of the man, rather each working hard in their role. Good topic today, Wayne. Til you find the right woman, keep up with your Jack the Lad options...

I did meet one.. she worked in real estate in Chiang Mai and offered to buy me dinner occasionally.. the only one.. she was selling condos, houses etc.. in Chiang Mai.. she was well off. Great video, enjoying your content. Retiring to Jomtien Beach in 13 days! Chiang mai was my favorite city, on my last visit, back in 2005. also liked Hua Hin and Khon Khan. Will give Jomtien a few months, but I bet I wind up in chiang Mai! I'm a streamer, so will fire up my channel after I get settled. I had a thai "palaya" way back when. Made the foolish mistake of bringing her to the USA, and also expecting the type of connection I have with my Western Wife. Never happened. Huge cultural chasm, and for me, we had an intellectual divide as well. Save your money, live peacefully. Short time when the fires burn!

In my experience it's really just that the odds of meeting a woman of comparable income is just so much lower. It's not that they won't contribute at the same level, it's that they simply can't and they also likely have the yoke of their Thai's family obligation/expectation of receiving money every month. There is no (meaningful) national pension / social security in Thailand. This is what keeps old people off the streets. That said, there is a small percentage of Thai women in families who certainly do pull down as much or more that average westerners. Finding someone in this socio-economic bracket takes more skill of course but at the same time, they're not going to have the same need to shake you down for a living. I married a upper class Thai trans girl and it's been the best decision of my life. We've been together for 22 years now.

Yeah, it's tricky one Wayne. Even here in N. America it's often about man supporting women. I'm from UK originally and it was different there. I have several friends who are married to Thais, they are just as happy with gold and money, as long as you are nice and can try them ..I have told my wife that I am a millionaire so I can't try your family, they have to say themselves and they do. yes, I pay a lot, but I also often tell my wife that she has to pay for the food and other things. and in Thailand, everything is cheap, but if you find a nice girl, she must have a job, have her own money and be able to handle herself, yes, and can sleep a little, so you can have a good life together for little money. you're also an extrovert like me, we're used to living life others lead, but if you come to Thailand you can live differently and for little money

Seriously, really surprised by your views in this episode. I too am from the Southwest of England and I've never been on a date where I would not expect to pay for the lady. Okay, I'm older and it was how i was brought up! Once your in a relationship, its different, then the lady might offer, or go halves. Especially when you compare your income and the average wage in Thailand, its generally around 300Baht, you would probably spend that on a meal with a beer or two. That is her days wage, if she is a shop girl etc. So perhaps think of things from her view point too! But love your laid back vlogs mate, so keep up the good work. Having a girlfriend cost smoney whenever your are, In Thailand its just more.I have had a rich Thai girlfriend and she was probably the only girl that didnt want to be taken care of, still had to pay for meals and stuff etc but only because I wanted too. Being taking care of doesnt make them a bad and person its like you say its how it is. I can count the number of times I have gone 50/50 on a bill on one hand. One thing is a lot of Thai ladies already have children, your'e expected to look after them and their family which makes things even harder. Dont change, stick to what you want.

Back in Thailand myself, feeling great, nice to know you're back, too. Yeah, you're right, most long term stay youtubers in Thailand seem to have a gf or wife and the relationship is probably 99% as you say. However, where I'm from (japan) my generation (gen x) of leftover women are single exactly for that reason since the decline in economy has disabled men to support the gf/wife/family solo, in short, 50/50 support is inevitable.

Hi m8, Find someone that loves you for who you are and not for what you have. Learn some Thai which will be a bridge bewteen the two of you. Do not go looking for ladies in the night life, once in that life translate to always in that ilfe style. Taking care of somone does not cost anything but only time and love. Relationship is a two way street.

Dunno when the last time you went on a date in the UK was Wayne but the times have changed my friend. Dates now feel more like a job interview than anything else. Especially with women our age. 35 to 50. The women try to be subtle but every question is them trying to work you out rather than genuinely getting to know you. Especially when the women are older and have been through some stuff. It's like all the trust is gone. Even in the UK these days women will happily let you pay for the dates and won't think twice about ordering the surf and turf. In my experience and it's only happened to me twice but when they insist on paying you're not getting another date. In Thailand yes you are paying for everything and supporting someone but you should be getting some caring and most of all the thing you won't get in the west these days is some submission to your authority as a man and some respect. You're better off out there mate. I will be joining you shortly.
