Yup. I'd issues with buyers after private sales about 3/5 times. Now it's more like 1/5 times because I got smarter about how to sell things, though. Even the low budget stuff. When you describe an item, asking price and terms of sale, you gotta act like you're talking to somebody who can get offended rather easily, but who also lacks common sense. Still, that's more effort than should be necessary to sell something at a private sale and not get hassled about it later. I get why more people don't sell things. Dealing with people can be difficult at 1st, especially if there's money involved. Some people can't possibly be satisfied (lawfully & reasonably) anyway, and those people really aren't worth responding to in my opinion. There's a huge learning curve, that's for sure...

Wait high budget builds have issues as well. Not the "Tank" you might think. But do have fewer issues. I went the eco trans fi route with an auto shifting igh set up on the rear sprocket. Grubee frame, shift kit, tannus solid tires, etc,etc. It does ok for what it is. Gas mileage is unmatched by anything I have ever seen. Repairability and economy are it strengths.

@@kennynoble1223 Yes there is Kenny. Sales is an art form that requires many different skills. The ability to read your customer but one. You must learn when to speak and when to shut up. And to be painfully honest about it. The effort spend selling low end, small mark up products to 40% of buyers is break even on good days.. If you are selling a boat, motor and trailer for $50.00 . They will ask you if the taillights work.

After my experiences with these motors, I won't put another kit together without completely tearing down the motor and ensuring everything is cleaned, oiled, and sealed. It's even worth making sure the piston is oriented the correct way. If you're not sure, just move the piston manually until you can see the rings through the intake and exhaust ports. If you can see the small pin where the ring ends join through either port, your piston is installed backwards. Sometimes a small arrow will be etched into the piston top - this should point toward the exhaust port.

(Most are Chinese) Low to medium depending on what you buy usually medium to high if you rebuild it and love it like it’s your child…. Look at the Zeda series or if you have a strong bike and a knack for things like this, I’d suggest the phantom 85. I’ve seen some really amazing builds benifit from these sets. The phantom is a more powerful engine and can do all the things that happened to the bike in the video (which can be a downside, but done right you can go pretty fast and get a decent efficiency from it)

@@williamhaskellhaskell3162 I spent a good grand dong trial and error figuring out what works and what doesn't. I ran my 80 on nitromethane, gas, 2 stroke oil, and a little bit of molly anti-friction.It would easily hit 50mph with me being 6'5 and 270lbs That bike went through about 4 engines until I finally got it dialed to where I wanted it. Ran the last motor for a few thousand miles wide open throttle every day(not recommended) . Windowed and port matched piston, lightened the con rod, balanced the crank, upgraded clutch material, upgraded cylinder (stocks usually have closed off ports to expel crank case pressure when the piston goes from TDC to BDC) I got one milled for the ports to be open which allows more pressure to be vented and a heck of a lot quicker, 415 chain, upgraded chain tensioner, one piece magnesium wheels with the sprocket adapter built in, high compression head, reed kit, stage 2 cdi/coil, and a super magneto. @@Bh2Ohouse407 Honestly the beginning where you break everything in and get all the kinks worked out is horrible and you definitely do spend a lot more time fixing than riding but after ~800 miles I found that most problems stay fixed or you have figured out a way to efficiently deal with them.

Interesting, I bought a used Road Master 80cc gas bike and it took me on an 80 mile 7 hour ride to Chicago and back home on one tank of gas, by the time I got home the break cable was extremely loose that there was basicly no breaks, I still have the bike and after tons of issues with the carb idle screw turning by itself, front breaks completely breaking, chain breaking a couple times, back tire popping, the broke the cap on the original carb just by trying to tighten it, also for a couple months I was running way too much oil in the gas mix and after all of this the bike is now running great, I understand how the bike works now and how to safely ride it, I would say overall I had a great experience buying my first gas bike used for $315 + $22 for the Uber ride I had to get to go buy the bike, then I road it back to my house lol.

Good advice. I had nothing but headaches and lots money lost trying to sell these for profit. Now I ride a 63cc friction drive daily and love it. I’d suggest some cardboard on the grass or any work area. Helps me a-lot when nuts and washers get dropped. Keep the videos coming 😀

I built and sold around a dozen motorized bikes for profit before I realized it was wasn’t worth it. Like the man stated, the profit margin relative to effort wasn’t worth it. Not to mention the messages I would get from pissed off buyers asking for some kind of compensation only a few days after the sale. I remember receiving pictures from previous buyers showing a snapped frame, missing screws, broken spokes, etc. I felt bad for them and it was difficult explaining to them that this is what inherently comes with a motorized bike. It got bad, the final bike I sold pushed me to quit because the buyer literally threatened to kill me over $300. You’re probably better off drug dealing then selling motorized bikes (sarcasm).

I have built and sold many bikes. I ride all new builds to make sure that the motor is broken in correctly and all parts are tight. I use quality parts a nd have very few problems. I educate my customers on proper care and maintenance. My shop does all repairs and yearly tune ups. And lastly, l charge alot more than three hundred dollars for a well built vehicle.

I would say the easy answer is to give the buyer a sheet that tells how to properly care for and maintain the bike. Have two copies and make them sign it. One copy for each of you. Then you offer maintenance and repair service for a fee. Just like any vehicle dealership you make money off the sales and service. I would also not only out the bike together but break it in and then maintenance it before you sell it and charge more. Or alternatively you could offer either option at two different price points. One to break it in and the other without breaking it in.

I tell people the same thing. If you put it together, you can do the maintenance. Yes, these engines do vibrate, and WILL shake EVERYTHING lose. The need to go over the whole bike with a wrench, after going out of a cruise. Most have no idea what a torque wrench is for let alone how and when to use it. Torquing of the head. Secondly if I build a bike and some takes it out and something goes wrong, I would be liable. So, the easiest and safest is to just say, "NO", build your own. The hardest thing in putting one of these "kits" together is getting the rear driven sprocket installed straight and true. Everything else is pretty simple. The removing the slag out of the cylinders ports is the next thing that is hard to describe to a non engine guy. To many people may want one of these but they don't want to try to do it for themselves. They seem to have it in their heads is it's handles like a car. If they put in the key and turn it, if it doesn't go VROOOM it's broke and have NO IDEA on how to fix it. I recommend for anyone starting out is to go online buy the cheapest "kit" ( $99 )and put it together. This is because it's the easiest way to teach anyone on the operation of Gas Bikes. I will oversee the build and lend assistance but I want then to build/assemble their bike. Upgrading to a "Better" engine is then a pretty easy thing to change out. ($140 for a Stage 2 engine). I am running a Stage 2 engine, balanced crank, Hi Compression Head, Tuned pipe, Big Box Reed, Hotter Ignition, hotter plug. I've been tinkering with the Main Carburetor Jets to get this engine to run in 2 stroke. 92 oct gasoline mixed with Stihl Chainsaw Premium Oil, @ 30 -1. With a 44 rear sprocket, flat ground, no wind, short bursts, 43 MPH, likes to cruise at 27-28 mph. One last thing....these engines perform the best when they are warmed up completely before hitting the road. Start the engine, let it idle. touch the head with finger as it warms up, when you can't keep your finger on the head it's warm enough to run.

I agree with your analysis. A friend of mine bought a used one once and he knew nothing about it. He brought it to me and I fixed it,,had it running and working perfectly. He came over and I started telling him how it worked and he didnt listen and just took of on it. He went speeding out of sight and all I heard was him crash. He came carrying it back with a scrapped up leg and broken finger. He took off full blast not knowing where the brakes were. I believe he hit the kill button to stop,,,and as soon as he let up on the button the bike started again and took off while he was turning. lol

Now this EXACTLY sums up how one of my friends tore his up and broke a bunch of parts out of frustration. I spend so many hours into something as small as the old bushing of the Phantom 85. I mean I get frustrated but I'm not going to break something I've spent so much time on. You have to know your stuff before you buy one!

I wondered why some bikes were so expensive. Then as I examined them closely, I saw they bought high quality frames to build on, or modified good frames by welding in specialty parts. The one you build in your garage. You have total control over every aspect when you build it. I always start out with a cheap engine and tear it down to replace, machine, and inspect everything. I've built standard 2 strokes, high performance 2 strokes, nitro-methane 2 strokes, etc. I will always trust myself building them, grab a cheap engine or three and throw those upgraded parts on. It's a lot of test and tune lol.

On mine, Maintenance includes re-tighten engine mount nuts, chain tensioner loose often, exhaust pipe comes loose. Need to step up all washers and nuts. Double locking nuts I use(big improvement) i ONCE ran low on oil, engine siezed. Took it apart ,buffed insides to fix. I learned my lesson. Suggest nail proof tires and DOUBLE brake handle.(life saver)

I bought my 1st bike. But it wasn't a average build it was a very nicely done Schwinn with a Springer frontend upgraded tank custom flaring (2 great panels both sides of top tube) and a flying horse motor tuned/jetted carb for $250 looks like a board track replica Tribute bike.. and im happy with it still even now that I've learned a ton built a few of my own. The idea was to buy 1 fully built study it learn from it build my own to learn and go from there. Had a good head start since i also build scooters/mopeds

I know the tight fit frame problems. I got a Mongoose Mack that I motorized, had to put a short intake on it to fit the carb. Not to mention I have bolts up front longer than the factory engine studs to fit my triple forty to my bike.

I've built 2 electric and one with a chainsaw engine. I've got more hours into them, making them nice for ME, than I could charge for. People always ask why I haven't started building/selling and the primary reason is customers that don't know what they are getting into. I'd sooner disassemble them and throw them away than hear back from some jackoff that didn't know what they were doing and ruined them.

I take mine on 10 mile, 35 mile trips frequently. With the port work I do on every cylinder and my aftermarket head, exhaust, 36t sprocket I get approximately 200 miles of mostly highway trips out of a top end. I recently found the best chain so chain breakage is not a problem anymore, but usually it's a ring that goes. Last time, I lost my wrist pin bearing I had used since the engine was new two years ago and four or five top ends ago. I'd say I'm pretty much a motorized bike veteran at this point and I gave up on trying to make a business out of it the first year! Too much labor for too small a profit margin.

It's quite a bit more, let's see I changed my top end due to failure twice last year and I'm just breaking in the most recent new one -first time this year I do ride pretty much year round too so yeah, it was a typo, lol.

I build and sell motorized bicycles in Tampa. All i can say is people as a whole are dumber than a box of rocks . They all call me 700 times a week wanting a motorized bicycle but only have $20 to spend . And people thinks my shop hours from 8am- 4pm mean im suposed to be open at 1 am . Thats when the phone rings the most . Or they buy a motorized bicycle and totally think it is suposed to out run the fastest production motorcycle made . Or they buy one from someone else and they break it but it's my foult and i have to repair it for them for free .or they think these bikes have a forever warranty. It realy is amazing how stupid people are and no matter how many times you tell them these are designed to be ridden at 20mph every single one of them head out down the road engine never been broke in wide open full throttle all the way .and call 10 minute later I'm on I-75 and it won't keep up with highway traffic you robbed me . Ya it is a major head ache and you deal with the stupidest people on the planet.

And to top it all off, if you want to build a high quality bike with a "high" quality motor, they look at the price and say. "I could buy a used motorcycle for that price" ... And you are stuck there reminding them about registration, tax, insurance, and license. I feel your pain Brother lol

Madmatts custom motorbikes. My last two stroke went 50 mph on a Fat tire bike. I sell suspension upgrades, you name it. Ported milled windowed ramped third transfer port and 24 to 26 mm carburetors with dio reeds. My last four stroke fat Moto I put a header pipe on it remove the governor replace the carburetor and put a smaller sprocket on it. 12 gauge spokes.

I just bought a motorized bike like yours in the video for $150 and I knew it had issues as he told me. With that said, I will tare it down to put on a Cruiser bike frame that I picked the cruiser bike up for $25. It will be my winter project for spring time so I can upgrade it every month little at a time. At least I can get a feel for riding one as I HAVE NEVER DONE THIS before. LOL. Got my crash pillows just in case. He said it takes an 18:1 mix as I have seen many take a 40:1 mix. Still learning and watching KZbins.

I had the same type of problem but with my brother I was having an issue with the chain and I told my bother that and the motor was branded new out of box and I just let it idle threw a full tank and what does he do he goes wide open and chain popped off so he holds wide open and almost blew the motor up but it ran for about 5 to 6 moths then it blew up but I at least know how they work now.

Thats partially true. There are folks looking to buy a motorized bike to educate themselves off it as well. Id say its a decent starting playing if youre wantjng to learn abojt combustion engine and work your way up to bigger and better and more complex. how i make money selling bikes... lets say i built a 200cc cruiser bike off a full suspension super cycle hooligan had 21 inch and 19 inch dirt bike tires on it... cost $1700 to build it. sold it with a worn out clutch spring. but how did i make money on it? used it to get around the city cheaper then a cab even cheaper then a bus ticket. and after getting some attention from building it and driving it around the city for an entire year with no problems... an opportunity came up... so i drove it 250 miles to a even bigger city and was sold something worth way more then the bike... so i drove the 5 hours to get back home with a 120lb engine strapped to the back rack... i got around on a $100 pawn shop bike, then did $1600 in work to it... to then use it to drive a vary long way to pick up a dirt bike engine that a dealership took as a trade in. i put in $2500 of work into it to pick up what i thought was $700 of dirt bike parts from 250 miles away... once i got the dirt bike finished i sold the 200cc bike for $300. I made $6000 in material wealth by using that 200cc bike in a progressive manor. BTW i made a video of the 200cc bike i made, but you'll need a welder to make a copy of one... welding courses can be vary expensive but were i live and the school i went to, i was tough welding and lots of other things as a mandatory courses needed to take so i could graduate and get a diploma. writing was one of many things, separates one from the other vary easily. :)

lent a bike to a friend to go put in job applications and he blew it up because he was going flat out around town in 90 degree weather. in his defense i didn't thoroughly explain to him why he should baby the thing and go wide open in short spurts. but he knows a little here and there about working on cars and all that. so i just expected him to assume that cheap china doll motor = its not a dirt bike. nope. not only did he cook the thing, he decelerated it a ton so it was continuously starved of oil and ignored the fact that the clutch screw was almost completely backed out. so the clutch is gone to. so instead of rebuilding the motor and risk the casting being cracked somewhere because of how hot it was getting, im just gonna buy a phantom 85 gen 2 and throw that on it. still wont confront me at all about it either which pisses me off even more.

I used to sell them had many come back to my shop….one guy decided to listen to one of his dumb friends, and use 1 teaspoon of conventional engine oil….the damn thing wasn’t even broke in, I told him how much it’s gonna cost to fix, and it’s going to require a new engine, and 50dollars in labor, he refused to pay, and said it wasn’t his fault….I include a small bottle of 2 stroke oil, and a manual for Maintenance, and tear down….it was indeed his fault….and to throw the free two stroke oil away with the manual with instructions on the fuel, and oil mixture? To make a long story short….he didn’t get his money back. Many ppl blow the engine, because they flog the hell out of it constantly, and clutching it up hills instead of pedal assisting the engine….clutching is when they rev the shit out of it and continue to bump the clutch until they can lay back on the throttle to climb the rest of the hill.

He anyone saw the rusty chain on my old amf 8 years ago when I bought it, they would have replaced it but me, myself, I just oiled it and worked out all of the stiff spots! It's been so long ago that I don't remember what I used to oil it but it's still on there and you would never know!

Love the way you put that about the people having to learn about their motor bike.. I believe this should also be included towards vehicles.. because not a single person knows what the noise is that their cars making before the wheel comes off or say the brakes go out or any of that not anyone pays attention that cuz they got insurance to cover for ... I think a person that drives their car and they're wheel comes off for their brakes go out I think they should be reprimanded into a fashion there's a lot more than just getting covered by their insurance say maybe all Learners course to what a vehicle's noises sound like when it's about to have seah ball joint go out a tie rod or the upper strut mount a sway bar.. Your rear drum brakes.. No one pays attention to this because they got insurance I think anyone that has an issue in this fashion should be reprimanded by the courts to take a learner's course

The big problem is that these are kits. The strength you get from welding everything together snd using heavy-duty parts meant to endure vibration is just not given to you. I think you could use these motors for a product, but man you would have to know what your doing and be willing to test every part.

Crazy tho we used allot of lock nuts and a variety of washers so it fixes it all, If we didnt cruise on a stock engine it could run hard for some time. A different head and multiple things helps with cooling. Full throttle it's possible because most people will it's not avoidable you just got to keep fixing it if someone is the way they are... Mechanic work is hard but anyone can make it work for the impossible things to happen. Bending rims id be avoiding people like that, It is even better that you do know how they did it so you can avoid them.

Non ethenol and a good rich carb. I also noticed you don't use some rubber tubing for your engine mounts, Bike tire tubes etc for mounting places metal to metal keeps vibration down a bit and keeps your fuel tank also from tilting.

Yes you can, and no you don't have to. The motor sprocket goes on the left side of the rear wheel. You can keep your shifter... You may have to get creative with where you mount everything on the handle bars but it can be done. I personally just set the bike in a low gear and forget about the shifters. I also like to remove the crank shifter... I also like to stack both brake levers on the right handle bar or use a dual brake lever. in allot of my trail videos you can see how my handle bars are set up.

Avoid wd40 for anything on bikes, it attracts dirt and grime into the components you spray with it. There is other industrial spray lubricants, but lithium grease for a lot of high friction applications or inside cables is one of the best.

Please keep making motorised bike videos I really like them. Buying engine bikes assembled ruins the whole experience. I made my bike myself and had to deal with all the issues (there was alot) but now I can deal with any issue on my bike and it is reliable because I have prevented any issues that could happen. The bike is 25 years old, has no suspension and is rusty but I ride it flat out all the time. Yet it is still reliable. Buying a bike pre assembled is stupid because you don’t know how to fix it or the issues which are specific to the bike.

A 2 stroke motor is design to run with full throttle for a short while, then relise it fully for a few seconds, and then go back to full throttle. Half throttle cruising will Kill the motor.

I bought a mountain bike and a new engine kit. The transmission is locking up. It made a crunching sound and the chain came off. I was lucky it was stationary and killed the motor. Where did you get a new shaft for the trans?

No matter how good I build a gas bike…people manage to still break them. The Kind of people not to sell to is people who want to use them for daily transportation. They think they can get on them, and flog the hell out of the throttle, they also don’t listen to a thing you say, and end up breaking them…I even provide a Manual that come with the kits, and they just toss or loose them’ the manual provide the gas and oil ratios’ 50:1 to break in the motor. I had one guy use only gas and the engine seizes…he blamed me for not explaining it’ Despite me providing the two-stroke oil’ I sell them with new engines and bikes, and provide the 2 stoke oil.. I had another guy bring the bike in ‘every time he gets a flat tire’ I explain in detail how to remove the back tire…AND HE STILL BROUGHT THE BIKE IN DUE TO ANOTHER FLAT…HE PAYS FOR THE LABOR….BUT I SIMPLY DON’T HAVE THE TIME’ I finally tell him he’s on his own’ some people are ignorant..I have set times I’m opened and close ‘9am to 6pm’ they end up showing up at 9pm..l get nasty text’ on my business phone’ cursing me for having to travel far’ I don’t care how far they travel….my rules are rules. I also refuse any returns…the bikes are tested every week for bugs in the build, I also ride the bike to prove they run. They left in one piece, and ran when they purchased them…I even put sold as. I never had any buyers break a chain’ I use jack shaft kits’ I finally went to e-bikes only’ gas bikes are a major headache.

And the 50 dollar Craigslist find and $ 100 standard upgraded China doll motor bike kit combination works very well... $150 =$ 300-400 When I say upgraded I mean the one with the Allen bolts instead of the Phillips head bolts the strip out so easily. I think a better title for this video would be lesson learned.

People sell motorized bikes where I live for 500 to 800 and it only costs 150-200 dollars to build the bike and an hour or two building the bike, it seems like it would be worth the time and money to build and sell these bikes atleast in my area where I live, and you can avoid the bolts/nuts vibrating loose by using red lock tight on all bolts/nuts.

Too bad your not in Florida…because I would give you the remaining spare parts I have….I got like 12 chains…2 are 415. I got 3 carbs….2 engines, 4 CDI, 3 gas tanks, tons of throttle cables, and clutch cables, 5 CNC hub kits, 11 stock sprockets, and mounts, 7 beach cruiser mounts, 2 motto stands, 2 jack shaft kits, and 3 side chain guards. I got out the business, and got into E-bikes….they sell slower but I always yield me a $150 to a $250 dollar profit, and no issues with the buyers.

I've got to say this. In California you can be sued for selling or loaning your bike to someone if they get hurt, die, or hurt someone else or property damage. Check your local laws. Even if you made some parts for someone. Be careful before you do anything of that nature.Seek legal advice. Great video.

You don't get sued if you sell your car or motorcycle or hell any other vehicle if they crash the fucking thing. Tell them when you sell it is requires an M2 and to be registered and have that info in the bill of sale.

I've got one that looks exactly the same, it was advertised as a 80 but people are telling me it's a 50cc, not like it matters I luv it it's so much fun, my chain has snapped twice an was goin to say all my bolts keep vibrating loose but I do tend to push a touch to much, but the biggest problem I've got is I'm from England an police can't wait to get their hands on my bike, I've took Chase twice an had another close call an i hav friends that hav faster electric bikes an the totally leagal

Rule #1 never lend your bike, rule #2 never lend your bike, rule #3 repeat rule1 and 2. I motorize vintage bikes like the schwinn choppers, spiders, and 50's and 60's beach cruisers with suspension springs in front of the handle bars. I sell my bikes to businesses like bike & motorcycle shops or any interested business for display or collection. One customer had his orange county schwinn chopper mounted in his gameroom and looks beautiful all chrome w/red tone. I do after market engineering and replace better quality nuts and bolts, I replace chains with higher quality chains from Tractor Supply, developed a way to keep the tensioner provided permenatly bolted and keep it from sliding back and forth or sideways, and so on. I do advise the customer that they can use the bike otherwise as a daily ride, but requires constant maintenance and longevity of this kit is low. It's a hobby and I'm on my 40th build and it's my 11th orange county Chopper and my last build. Moving on to other projects.

I know what you are talking about when you said "people want to run wide open " had a guy tell me, he built this bike, and couldn't get it to run, so I looked it over and immediately knew he didn't build it he bought it from someone, the tank was full of dirt the fuel line was black, and it was a stock line, clear, and the filter (stock) was black ,so I told him it's going to cost about 30 bucks to replace everything from the tank to the intake, and then I told him that I will only charge him 20 bucks for labor ,so 50 bucks for all, he said okay,get it running......did all that and tightened everything up,and I mean everything! ,showed up to get the bike and only had 20 bucks, told him when he came back with 50 he could pick his bike up, and he got upset, so....I ended up calling the cops, and the cop told me I had to give him his bike, and if he still owed me money I would have to take him to small claims court to get it, that's why I don't fix anything else without payment upfront, love the video!!!!!

I sell them. For $300. Bikes are $50 motor kit is 120. They understand they are cheap and they may or may not keep working. I also show them how to ride em. But you are correct. They are going to expect perfection even at $300! And it ain’t gonna happen. Yea most people have no common sense. Your friend sounds like a beast. Lol if And when anyone comes back to me with a broken buy I charge $25 an hour to repair them. And again tell them what they are doing wrong. I also tell them it’s a bike so it will always need to be Maintained. I also put several miles on each one and then go and inspect it a second time.

ok i like your video i bought a 2 stroke 80cc online and it did good untill about 50 miles than it started loosing power so i took it apart and found out the hole where the piston gose in (sorry not a machanic) was burned up like it was chiping away like it was painted did you have any problem like that before if yes do you know why because im scard to buy another one but i love to just don't like wasting money

The cylinder lining is what I think you are talking about. Yes I have had it happen once on a new (cheap $100) motor kit. Now, every motor I get I take off the cylinder and clean it. Most of the have flakes of metal left over from casting that can destroy the lining. a new cylinder will run you about $20. Also be sure to take it easy during the first tank of gas on the new cylinder. Question what was your oil ratio?

The same thing happened when I let a friend borrow my bike I got it back with the rear wheel spokes broken found out the idiot was jumping a wooden ramp in the middle of the street something a 10 speed racer bike isn't designed for.
