Why I Don't Sell My Yarn

My mother and I often get asked if I sell my yarn. The answer is no, and here is why.
This is not intended to discourage anyone who wants to sell handspun yarn. It is a realistic look at the costs involved in keeping angora rabbits for fiber, and buying fiber for spinning yarn.

I've spent $50 for Angora fiber, not yarn, and I spin it myself. Now I have two Angora rabbits to spin homegrown fiber, but I'll buy other colors from other Angora fiber sellers. I weave and same problem with pricing, but love to create with yarn. It's worth it to a fiber artist. Completely see your point. It's more of a hobby for me and I invest readily without restraint. My work sells, but I'll never consider it a fair wage. Haha

As the owner of three angora rabbits (1 English-2 German-X), I am a spinner/weaver and have to totally agree with you on the price one would have to charge per ounce of wool/yarn. I usually end up gifting my product and I am just in love with the whole process. Thank you for such a wonderful video and your yarns look great!

Agree. As am knitter wanting luxury fibres but disabled,have gone to growers and happily taken raw fiber cheaper than finished fibre but buys winter feed. Come to love the process as much as product. Really don't need constant knitting

Yup. I'll sell excess fiber at a slight loss to friends, it does help pay for feed.
