I am not going to lie I screamed throughout the whole video! :,D I am a painter that needs a palette to mix the colors together, and clear pigments to get even washes. I could never dab continuously directly into another pan with a pigment loaded brush, but I can see the nice effects you can get by letting the pigments to their thing on the paper! Sometimes I do, but then again I make sure the pan is clean in its own color again, and that I use barely a corner. I would never say this painting style is wrong, nor do I want to imply that in any ways, just making sure that this is clear. Each painting style is individual and valid, and everyone should paint how it suits them the best and enjoys it the most!
@KristyRice3 жыл бұрын
Well here's the good news...you can still totally mix on the page, avoid a palette and not double dip in your paint pans...just rinse in between and you'll get the same fee, dynamic vibe I do but without "contaminating" pans :) Ohhh I know this painting style is "wrong" by many standards. It works for me and like you said I want to widen the idea of what is valid and valued, especially for beginner painters! Thanks so so much for your wise words.

I do this too and you’re right it makes some great effects and blends of colors, that’s why we do it lol but extra tip for any of your viewers who may be newer to watercolor, you can also have several clean brushes and dedicate one to each color if you’re not doing the first technique. Or you can move some paint of each color you want to use over to a clean spot on your palette and pick them up onto the same brush from there. Hope that makes sense. Just another tool if you want to keep your individual pans of paints clean

You are my godsend. I am a realistic colored pencil artist. I was invited to and actually had an exhibit at a local art gallery last month, so I must not completely suck. Anyway, I decided to try my hand at Watercolors. I have been almost in tears with frustration. I am horrible at it. (I painted with acrylic some years ago) I can't tell you how many sheets of watercolor paper that have been torn and thrown into the trash. I can't get anything right. Then, just yesterday I found you on youtube. I have been through your first beginners video and doing the WOWD chart. Am redoing today just because I just have to. Then today I see this video. OH MY GOSH! Mixing from my paints is what I kept finding myself trying to do. I thought it was a big faux pas. I don't know if you are familiar with PanPastels, but I have done that all of the time with those and a paint brush to do backgrounds. It just seems so natural to me. But you just turn everything I have watched and read upside down. Thank you. You make me want to try again. And believe me, it is killing me to go back to my drafting table. But I will. I am glad you have so many videos. If anything, even if I never get it, you make me smile. :)

What fun. This appeals to the inner me that has always added colors that "don't belong" to anything and everything just because I felt they were needed. I love how liberally you set about doing just that. I haven't been as free as you, however, and have restricted myself to always being very careful to not contaminate my colors with other colors. Your demonstration proves that that's not a concern and that even the clean-up of those errant colors afterwards can lead to a whole new painting without wasting any of them. Not only that, but some of them are such nice combinations that it might be a pleasure to come back to them in the next session without having cleaned them up. I believe you've just set this bird free.

You would love Cindy Baron. She never mixes colours on a pallette but always always on the paper. Plus she barely touches her paper with the brush for days. She does colour washes, mixing colours for days on the paper without her brush ever touching it until about the fifth layer of wash. She is fascinating! I’m not saying she is better than you, she’s totally different in her style of painting. You are fascinating and joyful in your own right. Love your videos!

I must give this method a try, with those paints I never use, still not ready for the contamination🙂. Great video perfect for getting the old mojo going.

Wow! Seems a little unconventional, but I love this idea!!! I’m a new painter and definitely afraid of the mess…. Will be trying this! You are very inspiring! Thank you!

Hahaha it’s totally unconventional!! Something you can do if the potential mess is stressful-have a “play” palette at the ready that you don’t care too much about “messing up”. Now I’ll say I paint like this with allllll of my palettes, I create artwork they people buy-I’ve never ruined a palette painting like this :)

Seems this is great as we begin, or just to sit and be spontaneous. I’m embarking on a 15-30 min daily practice, this will help me not over think it!!Trying to be in control of exact color we end up with is too much of a challenge in beginning before we learn the colors and their ways, opaque, or transparent etc. Later making charts and mixing ahead for a project but to make art happen this is the ticket. Maybe two palettes for persons that must control🤷♀️
