It's a relief to hear about pans being okay to use. Lots of youtube artists insist on tubes only and they also must be Daniel Smith. This is an affront lol to my beloved White Nights pans. So good to hear I'm on the right track. Also the tip about using the stiff brush is an obvious idea I never would have thought of.

Thank you Englehard, I've never tried White Knights watercolours, but I have heard good things about them. Due to the tiny details I like to paint, I don't like to waste paint from a tube, so these are perfect for the type of work I do. Paul 😀

So impressed by this video. I use Schminke Aquarelle and Van Gogh half pans and also occasionally Windsor and Newton’s student grade tubes. I’m slowly phasing these tube ones out as I discovered the joy of pan paints when I purchased a cheaper Mont Marte pan set that I experimented with before gifting on. This was at start of pandemic. I was amazed at the experience of pan paints. However, I had nooo idea of how to use them properly, especially how to mix any paint for that matter till I saw this. And I went to Art’s College! So blessed by this. Just super informative and I believe my very expensive paints will last so much longer after seeing this video. Thank you!

Hi Miriam, yes pan paints are delightful to use, but trickier for those larger wash areas. But as you know, I mostly work with half pans for my wildlife work. Paul 🎨

What is your preference, tubes or pans? *Leave me a comment* I would be interested to know, and for more detail on mixing the right consistency paint, why not head here next: bit.ly/35v7HKt

I absolutely HATE pans. They are hard, they are too small for the brush, it takes ages to load the brush etc. I found this video because I have some pans and are trying to figure out if there is a better way to use them before I end up throwing them away. There isn’t, it seems

I prefer tubes because I prefer wells.
@TheDevonArtist7 ай бұрын
@@sorenrasmussen8676 That's a shame, if you can't use them, then try and pass them onto someone that can. I've always used pans, mainly because of the detail work I do with a size 00 brush. So I don't have the same issue with the brush size with the half pan block. So I suppose it depends on the style and type of painting we all do and what suits our needs.

I was so scared that I wasted a bunch of money buying my first watercolor set, since most people I see use tubes. Glad to know that my Koi watercolor is still legit

I'm the same as you regarding wastage, not something I like to do. A little tip would be to not wash your mixing palette out unless the colours become too filthy, and use what you have left for playing or doing little studies. 😉

do you have a list of the paints that are inthe pallette in the video?
@TheDevonArtist Жыл бұрын
Hi Sandra, sadly that's too much to type out! LOL. These are all Winsor & Newton paints, both the Cotman Brand and the professional ones. 😊 I do have most of my colours listed on my website blog as well if it helps. I've added a few more since then. devonartist.co.uk/learn-about-mixing-watercolour-paints/

Is the word you keep saying "half pan"? Sorry, total newbie here!
@TheDevonArtist Жыл бұрын
Hi Beth yes, a half pan is a dried block of watercolour, also known as a cake. There is a larger full pan version as well, but most people use the half pan size for convenience. 😀

I love your work but i find it hard to believe you can paint with such a dirty pallet.
