Yes, exactly! Duolingo doesn't have any context. It's just random sentences. I don't understand how it could become so popular. Each unit should be a little story of some kind. By the way, "sie" here actually means "she". The family in German is a feminine word, so "die Familie" is "she" 😊 (which doesn't work in English of course).
