I use scopes and have always done it that way. I use old screens so they are not as accurate as you said. I saw Potato Jet's video aswell. I will invest in a good color grading monitor later. My clients have not complained about the colors so far, so that's good. I sometimes just drop the scopes if it's a quick project. Great tip with the colors. I havent used that tric with isolating the skin before. This will make it a lot easier :-)

I´ve been learning how to color grade from youtube for two years now and I have to say I´ve always wondered why only a handful of youtubers use the scopes for the color and exposure.. Since I have a really bad monitor which colors can´t be relied on, I had to force myself to depend on the scopes. It´s not fun, but gets the job done and (almost) always looks good. I recommend using the clip in black and white mode when adjusting the exposure and contrast, it´s way more easier to judge the footage by eye. I would also try to separate the skintones from the rest of the footage, that way you can have better control of the overall color grade and get more accurate skintones.

Hi Jordy! Great video. I would love to see more about correcting the white balance depending on the scene when there are various colors through out the image and the scopes are very unbalanced. And when the scene is with a creative look, how to maintain correct white balance?

Thanks so much for this the video i never knew i needed, is a gamechanger! Never really fully understood colour grading and been carrying it out by eye on a laptop which at most is likely only intended for making word/text doucments resulting in very poor video that may have been recorded on a potato! As student high spec monitors are beyond my budget so this is a perfect solution to get quality video results for minor corrections until i can afford the proper hardware from my projects!
