Wow. I've never heard of such a story of a slave. Usually when we are told stories of the history of any particular slave, it's all bad. Sometimes they die on the plantation, sometimes they leave and go north. Sometimes go south to a small community of other runaways. But your gramps _really_ lived the American dream to the fullest, before it was even called that. Amazing. Reparations is just pity money, not to mention pandering and keeping us even more enslaved to being lazy and depending on other people's money to survive.

The greatest gift you can give anyone is treating them as an equal. We grew up thinking we were the same as everyone else. You would never tell one of your children who is physically unattractive that they will never be socially happy, loved or accepted because of their looks, and then constantly remind them about it throughout their lives. A good parent knows that positive messages result in positive outcomes.

The war was fought over the west because the states were divided on whether slavery should be brought to the west (That would be the west coast, texas etc.). Obviously and thankfully the war went in favor of abolition so whoever lived in the west and texas was able to able to be american regardless of their race.

@gordon trimble There are more then 2 genders in fact but for other genders you have to look outside of mammals normally. Humans normally only come in two unless their is a issue with their chromosomes in which case they are still male or female but will have traits that other one has. This means down to their dna they are still male or female but much like cancer their cells duplicated wrong to create these features. I however agree with you about your overall message about the way you act or feel does not change your gender. Honestly if I don't understand the gender debate since its a group of people crying about you not calling them what they desire to be called all the while throwing every damn slur/name they can think of if anyone that disagrees with them.

@@willhiggins9563 Of course it's a bribe. It's yet another attempt by Democrats to control black people. They haven't gotten over the fact that Trump won over Hillary. They didn't get over the fact that Bush won over Gore. And they've never gotten over the fact that they lost the Civil War and can't legally own slaves anymore. So they founded the KKK to try to control black people through fear and terrorism. When they couldn't do that anymore, they tried to control black people through the Jim Crow laws. Then they tried controlling them through the isolation of segregation. Welfare was (and is) their attempt to control people through dependency. Or, ...."How far do you want to go back in time?". Every culture, every country has been conquered, reconquered, with atrocities, with death, with pain. The key is acknowledging the past, but not reliving it. It was acknowledged finally, in 1965 with the end of the Jim Crow laws......almost 2 generations ago. "The Great Society" was an attempt to rectify the wrong, and has been an unmitigated failure for the black community. This is all feelings and emotions. No one claims "white" on any resume or application......there is no incentive to being white. Stop the madness.

Only as far as it benefits them. Same thing as the Natives having their land "taken". All people have had their land taken by others or were slaves at one point in history. @@sunmanpatoo - Because there IS no blood on "our" hands... I've spent my life here in Denmark, helping where I've been able to and not doing anything to anyone. How do people determine whether or not something is fair? If someone who does something good experience bad consequences as a result or someone who does something bad experiences good consequences as a result, most would say something unfair has happened. When I was about 12, I saw these fliers at the local supermarket. A competition. I brought one home, answered the questions best I could and sent it back. I ended up winning the competition and got a barrel full of bags of chips. I was going to give my brother and step brother a few bags to be nice, despite absolutely despising them, but the second it arrived, my mother ordered me to split it with my brother and step brother... As in, 1/3 each... despite me having made an effort to win these chips and them just having been playing Command & Conquer on PS1 and watching Independence Day on repeat while chugging down bottles of soda all weekend. But I suppose if we discovered that someone with freckles like me had wronged someone within their height-ratio, you would say it was perfectly fair for me, as an evil freckled person to make up for the wrong-doings of those who have shared my genetics...

That's a completely backwards cause of thought. But let's step away from the Bible and look at practical wisdom. If I looked at issues facing black Americans today, which ones will restitution actually solve? Will it solve race relations? Right now, just the thought of them sparks a lot of anger. One big problem is the lack of fathers in the household. Will that bring fathers back in the home? No. What about failed government policies? Nope! Even if we gave every penny owned by whites to blacks, it won't solve any of your problems. So why is this even a conversation?

Or perhaps for how German heritage in the United States was systematically stripped away and German-Americans were sent to internment camps during the First and Second World wars. How about the Asian people who looked Japanese and their treatment as well? Hell, if we're going to give people repairations, perhaps the left wing should go and apologize for the trail of tears as well as every other atrocious law passed to benefit only their elites. Every single policy in United States history that has hurt the minority population has sat on the desk of Democrat presidents. Why do your children get to inherit your wealth or be provided for / taught by you? Suddenly all whyte people are uber individuals when discussing racism. That's not how the world works, things don't exist in a vacuum and clearly whyte racism has affected black america through generations. So not only was harm done, it _does_ have something to do with me and you, with this country benefitting your family and race and harming mine. It's also basic logic that if you don't pay people for their work it only makes sense to pay their descendants or anyone else associated with them. As I've been told, the civil war was not truly about slavery, atleast not in the beginning. I recall it starting over states' rights, the south didn't want Lincoln to make slavery illegal throughout the whole country. To try and keep the country together, Lincoln said he wouldn't ban slavery. But when he was elected, the southern states seceded. This is where the states' rights come in. The south believed that states have the right to secede if they believe the federal government is tyrannical, or something of the sort. The north believed otherwise and so the war began over the right of states to secede. This continued for awhile. Eventually, Britain began to notice there were problems with their cotton supply. At this time, Britain's textile mills were HUGE, they were the main thing at the time. So, when the south's cotton supply was being hindered by a war, Britain felt the need to step in to preserve one of its largest industries. This is where Lincoln used his political knowledge of this to issue the Emancipation Proclamation. This freed slaves in all Unions states and captured confederate states. The Proclamation seems useless if it only freed already becoming free northern slaves from slavery. This is the genius of it, though. The proclamation made the war about slavery, something Britain had already gotten rid of, making it immoral to help the slave-keeping south. There you have it, the Civil War not about slavery (in the beginning).
@detectiveofrivia311
@detectiveofrivia311 5 жыл бұрын
Sterling Gjesvold the war on states rights was an issue touted by the south only after they lost the war. There is clear documented evidence of confederate leaders, such as Jefferson Davis, only writing about this after the war. Proponents of secession would go to town halls throughout the South rallying states to join the cause so they could keep slavery. They did not mention states rights. This was revisionist thinking on the South’s part to make themselves look better in the aftermath of defeat.

@@pst702 We're talking about both slavery and Jim Crow here. It's irrelevant to my point, but the immigrants you mentioned were here during the Jim Crow regime. It's irrelevant because it was the government in the wrong for upholding and even spreading Jim Crow to all regions of the country. Nothing I said had anything to do with Affirmative Action, which was an anti-discrimination measure. To the affect that it even exists today, there's virtually no data to support that American Descendants of Slavery (ADOS) are even the primary beneficiaries. The bottom line is that even post-slavery ADOS were both literally robbed of property & rights and robbed of the American Dream that was ultimately opened up to all of the immigrants you mentioned. There is no group of immigrants that had every level of government passing laws that guaranteed their disproportionate impoverishment for two centuries. There is no other group that was locked out of the wealth-building social benefits for at least 90% of that time either. That easily amounts to trillions of dollars. That is what I was talking about. It's one thing if you don't believe trillions of dollars of wealth matter. But if, like most people, you believe it does, you'd have to conclude that this is a problem. And yes, various forms of redress could definitely resolve this issue. For example, if the social policies with respect to housing that locked out ADOS could help create the largest middle class expansion in the US, it's kind of ridiculous to believe that something similar specifically for ADOS could not help now.

Many tried after the Civil War to pass "Forty Acres and a Mule" laws, but Lincoln himself was against it. Most of the proposals wanted to seize the plantations and turn the land over to the freed slaves. Lincoln felt that it would cause a lot of resentment in the South and possibly a new war, in the states that were already trying to pick up the pieces after the war. Not only that, but a lot of the South's economy was built on farming and taking that much land would have destroyed any hope of the southern states rebuilding.
