Companies have managed to avoid paying employees fair wage and make the general population guilty enough to cover it for them. Rather than getting a policy to enforce better payment; we made it socially unacceptable for the common people.

I've read not only do they charge you a fee for the restaurant, and a fee for the service, and a delivery fee and taxes, and THEN expect you to tip, many of them actually raise the price of the food another 10-30% if you buy it through their service. That's why buying like two combos that should be $15 ends up being a ridiculous $40.

While I do agree that wait staff does deserve tips for the hard work that they do provide. It doesn't cost them physical money to bring the food to you at your table. Delivery drivers have to pay for gas and wear and tear on the car to bring your dinner to you. They're also a lot more likely to be injured, or worse in a car accident on their way to you People don't think about it, but it costs the driver the same amount to take a $15 order or a $50 order. As someone who moved from the USA to Germany you don't just tip because the employers don't pay enough, you also tip for the service. Tipping is still done here not the common 20% but 5-10% and sometimes not at all since the waiters make more hourly. The service is not as great though. They do their job ask you for your order and bring you the food and thats it. Refills, additional orders, questions etc you pretty much have to flag someone down. Once they bring you your food they don't come back until it looks like your done and ready to pay. Also mostly everyone does not have that friendly and smiling personality where you feel like they are happy to see you walk in they get paid either way so they don't care.

I've made some of my biggest tips, working in nice establishments (golf course, catering, even staff) where I was making full hourly pay. I got tipped because I provided a service BEYOND what the patron was paying for.. I'm not about to work for less than minimum wage and expect everyone to tip me for doin bare minimum work, or the exact work I was hired to do. Or make ppl feel obligated to tip me all cus my employer think the job that I APPLIED FOR, deserves minimum wage or less. Stop takin them tip jobs then expect to come out on top thru tips. Most of yall tip workers dnt do anything extra to deserve a tip.

I will never understand how americans accepted that tip is a mandatory thing and "if you don't do it don't come crying if they mess with your food" . first of all it's disgusting to mess with people's food when they paid for it and if you do so with a customer who's not tipping are you really the type of person that deserves a tip

While I don't agree with food tampering, you should definitely tip if you know for a fact their income depends on tips. If not, then you should drive there to get the food yourself, or if it's a sit down restaurant order it to go. Otherwise you are wasting the server's or driver's time when they could be working for people who will tip them.

To be real though.. it's not our fault that they get paid like shit. It's their companies and they should be the ones giving bonuses, I pay for my food and my food only unless it's in a restaurant where they actually give you service like going back and forth getting your order, your food, refilling your water.. That's something I'd tip. But if it's a delivery guy.. that's.. literally his only job, to deliver. So.. with that said, do I give tips to delivery workers? Yes, yes I do. Don't ask why despite what I said, I just do.

Yeah, people don't realize that it's a super dangerous and demanding job and, like all service jobs, highly underpaid. Like the disgus that left the first response, the consumer only adds to the exploitive nature of such positions without contributing to the solutions by not rarionalizing the position such workers face day in and day out. Judging by his sn, he's probably some socially inept dweeb that thinks he can code but is really just a brogrammer through and through. I am thankful that I am not longer in food service but, stg, I appreciate what any food service worker does (as someone who still uses such services frequently) because they could up and leave and go work retail. Then watch all these losers cry about how they can't get a meal quickly or correctly- can't win with some people.

as an ex food service employee that did exclusively customer service side jobs where I would be the one working for tips, tips are bullshit, they often get split with the kitchen and others when the service side are the ones being judged on their performance, and the service side is often (almost always even at high end restaurants) paid MUCH less than a livable wage BECAUSE of tips, in short please don't tip, it's some bullshit through and through and ya'll employers, food service or no, should be paying your employees livable wages at LEAST (for the area too, so no livable wage average to weasel your way into minimum payment)

@@grayrom there is nothing apparently wrong but if you think about it it takes away the responsibility away from the actual employer. Google Sonic staff quits over $4/h wage. They wanted tips to cover for the rest of their wage lmao. People often say "they aren't paid enough!" Which I am not disagreeing with. But instead of collectively chipping in, and in a very inconsistent way, how come they can't get proper wages and benefits like other jobs? There are several countries were tipping is not a thing, and the employees still make a decent living, so is not like we NEED tipping. Is just easier to shame those who actually support the business than the employer who is supposed to be RESPONSIBLE for paying employees a fair wage. The pandemic has shown that whatever covid relief people were getting, it was preferable to working and getting paid at this places. Not to mention is a consistent income, even if only temporary.
