I was in the exact same situation, owner operator single truck. My suggestion would be either join a fuel co-op where you buy as a group which is what a lot of farms do, or get a 1 or 2 thousand gallon tank for your own and buy in bulk. Fleet pricing should give you a consistent discount percentage off of retail. I’d say you are getting screwed by Pacific pride. I knew one guy who bought a used tank truck and used it as his own fuel tanker.

This is not new but remember you must be insured, registered and licensed as a hazardous materials hauler and storer of bulk hazardous materials to go down this pathway and for 1 truck it is not worth it,unfortunately.

When I was OTR and a bad day went south food helped me get through it also. Some rules I learned: never leave a sandwich in front of a A/C vent unless you like meat on Melba Toast, always check your bag before you leave fast food places as it's too late 30 miles down the road, no matter which end of a Hostess Fruit pie you bite into the fruit is on the other end, never eat a chili dog at night with the red interior lights on, never put Ranch on top of your Joe Joes and put the basket on your dash. If you follow these rules comfort food will still give you indigestion.

For somebody to tell you that your business is tooooo small to worry them, IS ENOUGH TO FIND ANOTHER SUPPLIER as you did. Money talks and BS walks. Some people fail miserably to recognize how much revenue SMALL BUSINESSES generate. Be polite and walk away with a smile cause you may, out of necessity, have to go back there one day. Don't stop, keep going. This route that you traveled was very scenic with the camera facing forward.

I have found that my local hometown station is very competitive on price.I just leave him a check on Mondays when we fuel up for the first time and he closes out the week on Saturdays.Since I pay with a check he saves the 3% the banks charge for CC Fees.

This reminds me of years back when we were buying bulk fuel ( delivered ) from the only fuel dealer in the local farming area and is a chain company but each outlet is owned privately. However they had no control over the price of fuel as head office would dictate that. The company started playing games by jacking up the price come spring time compared to their other outlets that had competition around them, basically knowing they were screwing the farmers in the area and the farmer would not know the difference unless one called around to compare prices. Ourselves and some other farmers got pissed off at that underhanded crap and bought fuel from another company for many years, that sort of tactic catches up to a company and unfortunately it was the local dealer who had no control who suffered and lost business by the actions of the powers that be above them.

I work for a large company and we use Wright Express, it’s a fleet fueling network that allows us to get fuels from any major and independent truck stops, gas stations, some card locks including Pac Pride, Safeway, Fred Meyers, etc. The only time I get diesel from a Pac Pride is when it’s the only option in the area I’m in especially on the east side of the cascades, when I used to work up north between Everett, Blaine and Sumas, I would normally get diesel from the truck stops in Arlington and Ferndale and sometimes at the Pac Pride in Bellingham at the waterfront.

I was a small business owner and tried to quote as you do but found to often I got burned, I eventually just quoted at a higher rate (especially on long term contracts) and it helped with the roller coaster price fluctuations. I always tried to go the extra mile for costumers and gave discounts when I could sometimes even when I shouldn’t have.

When I was an EMT for AMR in Seattle, we used a fuel service called WEX. It was nice because it gave us access to any pump, including Pacific Pride. So not being tied down to a particular company meant we could get fuel anywhere which was useful on long distance transports. No matter where you fueled up, you paid less than the posted price. Definitely worth looking into.

I had a Pacific Pride card for all my trucks for several years through my bulk fuel and oil supplier, I didn't care for it because it limited on where I could fuel. My supplier got rid of it and now we use WEX cards and I can literally fuel at pretty much any station and I can even buy groceries with it if I want and I haven't tried it but it's supposed to work world wide. We're paying anywhere from $4.99 to $5.09 at the pump in southeast Idaho, I generally try to fuel at a Maverick because it's cheaper and I get a discount and points.

I am leased to a small carrier “5 drivers” and we use NASTC. Looking in your area… seems it would only be good at Ernie’s Fuel stops in your areas and a TA off I-90. But… with the card app, I can see what the price is and I get a heads up if the price will go up or down after midnight. With that card, you pay cost plus… meaning they have a set earning per gallon they are making, your cost changes with theirs from day to day. It is often about a dollar savings per gallon. Sometimes less, sometimes more. Perhaps some others can chime in that run in your area and have a NASTC card. Today, it is showing a cost .15 cent less than cash price… which the card cost is 5.40 a gallon for today and tomorrow and state tax on that gallon is 4.91. This price is up .07 from yesterday.

If you ever have the opportunity to purchase your own bulk tank (10,000 gal or so) so you can take transport loads do it. I realize that may be a huge financial hurdle that you are not able to achieve at this time or maybe your current home will not allow for that but NEVER rule it out. Yes it takes a healthy checkbook to fill it but if you watch the market it can pay dividends. And you always know what is going in your tanks. I have a 20,000 gal frac tank that I gave $9,000 for 3 years ago and with the price of fuel during covid has more than paid for itself already. Just my .02 take it or leave it. Good luck!

I own a small business too (residential renovations in my case) and I totally get paying a bit more to at least know what your paying at the counter. Saving a few buck is great but if it costs you hours of headaches is it really worth it? Who knows, maybe the owner of that local truck stop would be willing to give you a break if they know you're going to buy every tank of fuel from them. I'm up in Canada and right now I'm paying $2.29/L for diesel for my truck, works out to ~$8.65/Gal. It's more expensive than gas! Man it hurts when I was paying less than half that much 6 months ago

I understand why that your aggravated about the up and down fuel prices with Pacific Pride, I would be also . Back years ago, my dad found out that it was easier, for him to get his own big fuel tank, him and his brother had a truck each and then sometimes they had a truck that two of their cousins, that were brothers took time about driving. The fuel tank had a regular fuel pump, like at a fuel station and it rung up the gallons and price per sale so that he could keep track of the fuel that he used and sometimes he even sold fuel to some of our neighbors or family once in awhile, but mostly it was mainly for his own truck . But that was years ago when things were simpler and not all the red tape that there is with everything today . But you have to be able to keep track of your fuel cost, to be profitable and competitive . I'm glad that you are getting to take your kids and your going to see your grandmother . This was another great video and I will see you later, so be careful and stay safe and keep on trucking down the highway . As always, Jeffrey from Lawrence County, Kentucky !!! 🤗👍💫

Fuel surcharges are tricky. We used to base our fuel surcharge on the California average. Currently the company we used to work for is charging 54.5%. Steep? Yes. But fuel prices are out of control. Yours doesn’t need to be that high. As long as your fuel is getting paid for plus a little extra to compensate for your time. There’s a lot more to it and hard to explain in text.

I've found the big truck stops are crooks when it come to fuel prices. We had a loves move into town and since then the prices around here are consistently 20 to 30 cents higher then they would have been before. I was paying @ $2 a gallon a year and a half ago, and now it's @ $5. Let's go brandon.

Your right Pacific Pride doesn't care about a one truck operation. My company used to use CFN but switched to Pac Pride because they were cheaper. Been using them 3yrs & have saved a ton of money but we are talking 20 trucks not 1.

What about putting a 1000 gallon bulk fuel tank at the shop. You can somewhat control the costs by buying it when you see a price dip and you know exactly what you're cost is for however long that 1000 gallons lasts and can charge the customer accordingly for
