These so called self help programmes are highly dangerious. I had a breakdown after doing the awful destructive Hoffman Process. Run by unqualified instructors. I was so messed up. It was my own inner work and going into solitude that healed me.

The book has very helpful messages which are kind of summarised at the beginning of most chapters. It really helped as I was about to have a meltdown from watching one of my children grow mature. One thing I would have preferred to see was an attempt to understand/sympathise about her parents who were just ‘fighting their own battles’ ‘with the tools’ they thought they had. It may well have allowed a soothing end. I say this as all parents face the risk of perceptional judgements just as their children, especially as the children (particularly the first generation immigrants) grow up in different-world from the advances in science and culture. To build a caring society it is important to have that level of understanding, in my opinion.

Some people need a break in a Mental Health Hospital. I need a Hostel to move on. Alcoholics and drug addicts in the street is difficult to see. They need Hostels and Counseling. But the Government dont have empty buildings for free Hostels in Britain.

The problem is they don't want it. They also don't feel safe in hostels

@@mandyedwards-holisticlifec3050 well they cant sit in the street outside shops. People are shopping. They must go to parks if they want to misbehave. We need rehab Clinics. Hostels need security with radios to contact the police. Some people need hostels and they are well behaved. If i had money i would open a small Hostel for temp accomodation and get security. If you cause trouble you leave.

Before the refugee crisis there has been shortage or complete lack of rehab centres, treatment for addcition, homeless hsotels and accomodation and decent housing. The mental health system is and has been broken now for well over 30 years,it fails people over and over again. The housing system and crisis has been ongoing now for decades but worsened since rise in rents and second home buying etc and rate of salary to cost of buying a house, lack of council houses..etc etc. This was the case before the refugee crisis and it will be the case afterwards, successive givernments have failed to tackle housing crisis, rehab centres and mental health in general is a complte and utter mess even if they were to fund it "properly",it is still fundamentally a broken model as it medicates and does not look at underlying issues which make people "ill",just like with addcition when people saw the addcition as the issue rather than what was underneath the addiction. They simply have chsoen to not invest in the services people need which in the end would save money as people would be in work and able to contribute rather than out of work or on sick or stealing moeny etc and other criminal activities to support a habit. If people could access good quality mental health support then hundreds of thosuands would not end up on the sick and poor housing is yet another thing that contributes to poor mental health.Poverty whatever Ruby says is a contributing factor when you have noy got safe housing or are woried about making rent and bills and stress of this...all adds to any mental health issues. She is one of the "lucky"ones in many ways because she has been able to access various treatments and have time and money to seek treatments alternative to just meds meds meds. You're right, many people do need a "break"and to be able to go to a therapeutic safe place of they are ina real crisis or bad way but often hospital is not that place.People with moeny can do this however and also access councelling which even with moeny does not always help if the concelling is bad or not up to scratch which alot of it isn't. People need more help and support with mental health and it needs to start much earlier in school.

Google low cost counselling services in your area. Often donation based, located in community centres. Approach private practice therapists - we have sliding scales for folks who can’t afford advertised prices. Please reach out.

Are you serious? She’s quite accomplished herself you know, and she’s been married to famous director for years (maybe look him up if you consider yourself British you’ll be ashamed) and you’re actually complaining that she has enough money to visit other countries? What you should be realising that depression affects everyone no matter how ambitious or wealthy you are, and it never really goes away.

He book is about how those things didn’t help. That’s the whole point
