As a daughter dad my heart aches a little watching you struggle with some parts of your build. But you persevered, learned as you went, owned your mistakes, and didn’t feel sorry for yourself. So even though I don’t know you, I’m really proud of you.

A fellow subscriber turned me onto your channel. I've started at your oldest and working my through. I'm beyond hooked! Started tent camping during Covid. Upgraded to a DIY 4x8 teardrop, and now a 1987 Chevy G20 van. I did flooring with just the underlayment also. I think i scored more on my flooring because I got it all for free. Literally driving down the road and found 7 boxes of beautiful flooring. Can't wait to keep going through your adventure. I love how you love your fur baby, her house is great!

Love the DIY mindset. At 1:24, mention of temperature expansion contraction - exactly. Unfortunately, all plank type flooring will do that, regardless of installation type (peel stick, click lock etc). The best I have used is Sheet vinyl or linoleum, Loose lay or floating type installation. Yes it requires precise fitment, but it will never separate, and its ability to "slide" makes it the best option for exterior temperature expansion contraction. Put a support under heavy objects, especially things with legs that might push into the surface, thats about the only drawback. You can literally pull it out and access the subfloor if needed for drying, installations, repairs, insulation etc. Stay gold.

Ok my warning on Lino was right on and so I hope this time I am wrong. I love dark wood the problem is the dusty dog prints MIGHT show. My dog was easy to find I just followed her prints. The test I used when replacing floors was to step on them ended up with a lighter version absolutely love the darker on. I am starting to be an intrusive gma and need to get offline. I just can’t help living vicariously thru you young people. You do a Awesome job by the way. You actually know what you are doing. I hope to get my Van by next week. I might go no build mini as at my age all I need is a nice bed n a/c. Since my colon burst in June and I almost died I have no need for a potty BUT I truly can not sit in my recliner hooked on Van shows for the rest of my life. I am going to get out there. I would rather die in AZ desert looking for meteors than sitting on my duff. I just ask the Lord for 6 months with no new anything going wrong. You would have to know my medical to understand all that has happened in a year. Actually A year would be great to kick around. I am in Oregon and want to make Louisiana and see the tons of dragonflies. TMI sorry…. But at my age I get to do and say what I want. So far no one has shot me. God bless

Anything else you add to your garage area you should put on a slide out thing (idk the proper name) from me watching other van conversions the slide out feature really seems to help when it comes to getting/finding stuff in your garage because of the limited space and you not being able to just look through all your items you will have in the garage easily.

We especially enjoy your lighthearted spirt, love of woofers, and your willingness to learn from your mistakes. We are probably going to go with a marine-grade linoleum for our flooring, but thus far our build ideas match yours completely. BIG thanks for this build series!

Ohshit, happy that I see this video now. Looking around into converting my own van and always thought vinyl would be cheaper and less of a hassle over laminate. Hearing you talk about how it held up and looking at the space inbetween the laminate I have now jotted down that laminate would be better. Thanks!

Home Depot always likes to save the day eh? :)) Been having a tough time choosing a floor here myself but I saw this rubberized vinyl one (3 layers, vinyl top + rubber mid + underlayment) that seemed pretty good. I think vinyl is pretty durable in terms of wear compared to other floor choices. And in theory, the rubber mid section should slow down expanding and contracting between joints while the built in underlayment should prevent moisture with the subfloor. Wasn't the cheapest option there but probably the best floor type for a mobile home IMO.
@Linneaandakela4 жыл бұрын
Hey! I did end up replacing my vinyl. I’m not sure how similar mine is to yours, but I did notice it expand and contract in the varying temperatures, as well as scratch very easily! I have another video out explaining this. I was able to find other flooring at the restore for about $15 that has been amazing. Hopefully you love your floor!

Did you glue your flooring down? I figured it should be since it will be in motion. I realized I would have to cut some pieces or I'd end up with an obvious seam at 4 feet. Once you start cutting the flooring it doesn't have the groove to lock into. You have to be creative to get the boards to look staggered. Also can't do precise cut with a table saw. The chop saw moves while the work is stationary giving a more precise cut.
