Yeah cost of living is high here, and it's continuing to creep upwards too - same thing in the US though. I think it's mostly the different distribution of costs that seems daunting to Americans. If you keep in mind all the benefits and social security, homes lasting a lifetime etc. I think it averages out over all. Depending on your needs it can be cheaper or more expensive here, but you won't ever have to work 5 separate jobs to keep afloat here. Getting rich is more difficult here I think, but not getting impoverished is much easier. Pick your poison I guess.

Cost of living in Germany is actually cheap. Germany is a hub for basically all major goods in Europe, most of them being produced here, so stuff costs much less than in other countries. Case in point: German products at Lidl and Rossmann in Poland sell for a premium, even though the Polish earn a fraction compared to Germans. Same goes for many other essential items. Spain, France, Greece, Denmark, Sweden, Norway...all significantly more expensive while earning less. Taxes aren't that high either in comparison to other countries. Check out what skandinavian countries have to pay in terms of VAT and income tax to get an idea of how privileged Germans are in that regard. And if you want to compare that to the US: healthcare, free education, including university studies as well as functioning welfare programs, well maintained infrastructure and strong worker rights speak for themselves and even things out pretty nicely.

Concerning politic discussions with Americans; a lot of people seem to be very dogmatic and close their ears for anything they don't want to hear - that's an ongoing global issue (in the political West at the very least) - but I notice it most often with Americans. Big egos that won't tolerate differing opinions or new information at all for fear it might upset their belief construct. Also empathy seems to be on a low, people just don't care about the misfortune of others much any more it seems to me.

this is why BSW (literally egotisticallly named after its own figurehead) and charismatic figures in AfD are so concerning, they represent a shift towards following leaders rather than practicing democracy. Germany does not have a functioning executive govt. and that has been a godsend ... as for political discussions, it's not possible to agree to disagree with someone who wants you to not exist or to have control over your own body. agreeing to disagree as the person who is literally being told they shouldn't exist, means you get shafted every time. BSW AFD, these aren't civil parties, these are avatars of hate and collusion for power.

I feel like the cost of living in germany is dirt cheap, obviously that's an exagguration but still. In germany a small restaurant Pizza Margherita costs like 8€, I am used to paying 11 to 12€ for a small margherita. For 8€ I could get a vending mashine margherita but not a restaurant one. This is actually a bad example because pizza is one of the cheaper foods here, if we compared something like schnitzel it would probably be closer to 5 to 8€ more for 3/4 of the food quantity compared to germany. Germany, at least to me, isn't a too expensive place to live but I have to admit, it's significantly more expensive than living in portugal or spain. When I was in spain, I compared the prices of a micheling star restaurant in spain to the prices of regular restaurants to where I am used to and they were virtually the same.

I lived in Munich for 4 years working at the KrdI, I would ALWAYS get stopped by police on my way home from work. My hiwi, whose father is syrian, but is 100% raised in Germany would also be stopped at the both train stations when commuting between Munich and his small town. "political" discussion with people from the US, from my experience, has been mixed at best. It strongly depends what kind of person you are talking to. I've encountered people who almost hated themselves for being from the US, others didnt even wanna talk about criticism and went borderline racist, even if a proposal was for the greater good. I feel like some folks there really locked themselves away, if that makes sense. In terms of having a conversation this definitely bled over to Germany as well but I am fighting hard to go against this trend, democracy flourishes by talking to one another and listening, no matter how far it is from your own point of view. If we just lable and alienate people based on small things we only push them into the arms of dangerous folk...
@Hey.Joe.Ай бұрын
Hi James, you was talking about hight taxes in Germany. Yes they are not low, but I prefer that instead of getting bankrupt for example an hospital stay or any medical care. Even a broken leg can cost you "an arm and leg". Calling an ambulance? 10 bucks instead of 4000. Visiting a doctor/general practitioner? Already covered by the public health- insurances. - - Hospital stay each day don't cost you like a luxus hotel stay in dubai. - Health insurances for example, if the contribution is at 14%, the employer is paying the half, so at the end you get just 7% deducted from your gross wage for that. - Better worker-right-protection. Mandatory paid vacation. - And many more benefits. - Also don't have to fear to live under a bridge if getting unemployed. - The university costs was already mentioned in the video. Sorry for that long comment, but I was just tired of the tax-argument in Germany from some americans over and over again but not considering how they get predatory ripped in other aspects of their life and living in U.S.

Now I don't have to do it anymore because I get a pension, but when I was a truck driver there was one thing I thought about the least. Taxes. You do your job and at some point you get a pay slip showing what you are paid. If you think you deserve a tax refund because, for example, you have a long commute to work or had to buy certain things specifically for work, then you go to a tax advisor and they take care of everything. I don't understand why you Americans have such a problem with taxes. And that while in America the axle on your car is breaking because the road looks like a moonscape. Taxes are important. Or do you Americans think that traffic signs grow on trees and potholes heal themselves eventually? Who do you Americans think picks up your garbage and how they are paid for it? which full-throated geno- and ecocidal candidate do you like? the one that says we should tread water even though we are already too far out to swim back or the ones that say we should keep swimming into the sea? what a choice. people aren't undecided, besides the tiny proportion of rubes they get to interview on news programs (you know how many people they go through to find those fools), instead most people are morally appalled and abstaining out of conscience. tell people in China or Russia to vote, same impact. one or two political parties does not a democracy make. You better be active 365 days a year if you are telling other people to vote, if you aren't you're practicing hypocrisy.

Also: Talking politics in Germany has become a pain in the ass, too. Don the 🟠 Con has inspired a lot of people to change for the worse in Germany. Some politicians want to be like a mini T + that's not good at all. I really hope Harris gets voted in. Don the Con needs to go to jail for all his crimes and all the hate he has provoked in others.

Reved/ Antonia war letztes Jahr so oft in deutschen Kliniken, bei Ärzten obwohl sie seit Jahren auf Madeira lebt. Anni the Duck ebenso. Also muss es doch einen Deal mit deutscher KV geben. Oder reicht für die Steuererleichterung bestimmte Anzahl von Monaten lebt man im Ausland? Ich verstehe halt nicht, wie die das machen

If you live in Germany and take a course or a certain kind of job you can easily gain permanent access to the system as long as you pay into it. Let's not pretend that these high-end freelancers creators aren't paying more into the system than most people. Learn your system, don't get angry at "foreigners" for being better at it and helping supplement your healthcare. You're welcome. Don't be a bigot.

@@Miristzuheiss I don't know, I don't watch such channels either. It's funny that James, as a US military member, gets about the same as us Europeans, also at the expense of the US taxpayer. Not that I don't begrudge him it, but others pay for it and he wants to save taxes.

Das unterstützt eine innere Abwehr des Zuschauers,, oder geht es dir nicht so? (dieser hier aber ist ein Harmloser und keineswegs ein Widerling) However, the attentive film viewer will not fail to notice that particularly disgusting, fat gangster bosses treat their supplicants with loud smacking and usually tear flesh apart with their bare fingers and stuff it into themselves, with fat always dripping down. I have relatives in the US, from the whole political spectrum. It is IMPOSSIBLE to talk about politics, because I naturally start at easy stuff, like healthcare and they start at not-so-big-problems like illegal immigrants. They can be a problem, but being healthy should come first, for normal costs. I even have 2 relatives with not smaller permanent dissabilities (not recognizable, more like limping to the end of time), but they still vote against social policies, that woudlve prevented their shit. I love them, but politically they are idiots.

Politics in America went down with Trump. Even if I really didn't understand the Evangelicals or the other cults or what they do with the Christian religion... Jesus was not a capitalist and would have despised weapons...10 Commandments were not written in vain. Religion doesn't belong in politics.. we know enough countries where it doesn't work, life, people's rights etc.. America needs a new constitution, new laws when it comes to politicians and presidents.. otherwise I see no good future for America. Part of my family has been in America since the 1980s, are married to American women there and have had children. Now they are thinking about coming back if Trump comes to the WH again and nothing changes politically.

I am from Germany, following your channel and I am wondering where you got this opinion of the German party AfD. You must have met very left-oriented people here which influenced you accordingly. From my perspective the AfD is the only party which cares for the economy. The basis of our social system and everything. Truth is that the AfD is where Angela Merkels CDU was 20 years ago. All gov. parties in Germany are left and the CDU is now also left. And how did things develop? Really bad. The economy is struggling, VW debates closing 3 !!!! plants. This is only the beginning. The narrative that AfD is EXTREME rigtht is not true. What is wrong with normal right? If we follow the current direction, Germany will collapse. Show me 1 country which developed fine with left-minded government? (Argentina, Venezuela, Cuba, UdSSR, China, North Corea,...) they all crashed. Harris is also left. Think about it.
@jesipohl6717Ай бұрын
Hocke is a credibly accused fascist and the AfD tolerates him and his language regarding remembering the h0l0ca0st, the AfD represents a turn towards charismatic selfish leaders like Trump and away from traditional post-war democratic coalitiion building. the AfD has been involved, via its members, in plots to take over Germany violently and has had members in the NSU as well. even if you like those kinds of people, who clearly don't make up the whole party, you have to contend that many have leadership roles and authoritarian folks like them tank any economy they run historically. it's defo also true for the BSW with authoritarian communists in some positions in place of the fascists. populism doesn't mean you get what you actually need, it means the leadership gives you what you think you want to secure power for themselves and their eventual heirs or cronies. BSW or AfD. they have different policies, but the same m.o. Hass schadet der Seele, it's not too late to embrace compassion.

if u want a good life in Germany you gotta hit schools several times and constantly graduate till you hit that good life. can not agree on that is slower paced here, still the same rule applies the harder you work the bigger the result. only wealthy people have TIME left here. hard working people are either sick of their shitty job and shitty life. the jobs didnt match at all. lower income workers are fucked man. always not enough money.
