I think that just goes back to the american history. And probably for propaganda reasons, to make everyone stand up for their new home, their new country, they went for this kind of "we are the greatest, we are the saviours of the 'old world'" stuff and that informed many decisions they made over the centuries. Which probably lead to this believe being very ingrained in the society. Especially during the many wars they were in, I think they always kinda saw themselves as the saviours, who save other countries from war, and as protectors. And when you see yourself as that, you obviously must assume that you are the greatest and other countries are worse because they need your help.

One ist "Spielstrasse" (gaming-road), that one we have in domestic areas, so you can drive up to your house, but you may only do so driving 5kph (3mph) and expecting children and pets running in front of your car. The other one you mostly find in city centers, called "Fussgängerzone" (pedestrian-zone), this is for people to take a shopping stroll without having to watch out for the dangers of car-traffic, also with these beautiful medieval districts where you want to put through a million tourists a day on tiny streets, you cannot have motorized traffic there. Usually you may only drive there if you have special permission, providing goods to shops and such.

From time to time, officials (especially on the level of German states) ask the same question and after some research they find out the same thing - foreigners studying here contribute to the society more than they cost. Many have student jobs and pay into the social systems, many stay after their study and work in well paid jobs, some even marry German partners and stay for life and even start a business which after some time will employ locals.. It's a net win situation for the society as a whole. The model doesn't work when you treat universities like they are just businesses and have to make a profit. A bit similar to prisons or public transport... You just have to set priorities!!

@@voyance4elle i assume you dont know what "basically" means. in this context, it means it's almost the same, but not quite. never said it was literally the same. but with my analogy, the simple-minded american has a general idea of the product.

a difference to the US is the size of everything. Everyime I visit the US I wonder why all streets and roads are so big and wide, even in small towns. I think the reason is that there is so much space in the States. The reason why you see so few cars is that the guy is in a pedestrian zone where almost no cars are allowed. Outside this pedestrian zones there is more traffic s in America, I presume. and due to the speed limits in the US driving in the States is much more relaxing.

Hi Ryan, he ist eating a "Leberkäs-Brötchen". There ist No liver and no cheese in it despite the name. Its made out of pork, a bavarian speciality. By-the-way, I really apreciate your thoughts and (very interesting) comments about the Videos. So I am also interested in other culture and this is a way for me to take a little look at American culture. Although I know its the thoughts of one person. Thanks for this Channel.

If you don‘t know ˋNalf since now, you have to watch his interesting and lucky Videos. He is living in Germany i think about 10 years. He came for playing football as a professional in the town of Schwäbisch Hall in Baden Württemberg. He even made a film about his time here.

Sunday in a pedestrian zone - walking around, window shopping, finding a fine rerstaurant for lunch or a nice café for aftrenoon coffee and cake. Cars stay outside ir in underground parking (you can see the pedestrian entrance to the garage in on scene).

Yes i see us in the same team as well and i hope there will be more people like Ryan in the US who want to learn more about their teammates! Only then we can grow as true friends and allies. The world around the West is getting harsher for us, we need to stick together, this time on the same side!

Don't worry about it coming across as some form of racist or discriminatory. It is simply a fact that the time it takes before it is socially considered inappropriate when looking at someone is way higher in Germany compared to the UK or the US. Looking at someone for a few seconds is not considered staring, only when you hit like 20 seconds would it start. My British girlfriend had a real culture shock the first time and felt like everyone was staring at her and I was staring at them. We're Germans, we were just looking at passers-by. XD

Bamberg is half an hour by car from my place. I worked there for two years. Is a nice middle sized city. And in the historic parts there is mostly less to none traffic. If you believe in yourself it is always easy to start over again. That's at least what I experienced. But our systems tell us and make us believe the exact opposite. Have a good one! ✌🏻 And don't forget Vollker! 😉

Lack of cars etc. 1) As he mentions at 09:17 he's in Bamberg on a Sunday. Northern Bavaria/Franconia. Except for Restaurants etc. pretty much every other shop, supermarket etc. is closed by law on a Sunday, also on some holidays. If you watch closely no shops are open when he filmed. 2) Many of especially the older towns in Germany have parts of the town centre as pedestrian zones. No cars are allowed or limited. Even delivery traffic restricted. Where I live (Ansbach, Bavaria) the laws for our town centre were just changed yesterday. Delivery traffic is now only permitted from 4:00 p.m until 10:30 a.m. People walking around on a Sunday are either folks having their sunday stroll, tourists, or as my wife sometimes says doing a "window shopping."

Nearly every German city has an only pedestrian zone in its center..,,pedestrians and bikes, no cars just for delivery to the shops…..🇩🇪

I couldnt find a comment about the food so here it goes: The food he's eating is called Leberkäsesemmel, in raw (which is not recommendet to eat) it is a very fine pork paste with mild spices and will be baked until it forms a crust and get's more consistency. Mostly the big loaf of baked paste will then get sliced while it's hot and put into a bun (i call the white bread which is not sweet and has a crust a bun and dont know if this is correct). The ideal sizze of one slice is exaktly as thick as one half of the bun. If it sounds like something that could be too dry you should know that a fresh slice is still a bit moist and has this salty taste on the crust and if you rly want something ontop of that than consider the traditional way of using "spicy mustard" or "sweet mustard" which might be hard to find in other countrys. Most natives would consider it as a breaking of foodtradition to use ketchup or any other sauce on top. The right amount of sauce is exactly one tea spoon full which will be splashed on the Leberkäs slice and than spread with the spoon. If you got to much Leberkäs for yourself than don't worry about it because it can be served cold in thiner slices as a topping or be mixed as small pieces into salads and whatever dish you want. Just don't keep it warm for longer period of time or reheat it as it's own dish. That's all you need to know about it.

Yeah it is a pedestrian Area with Shops and Restaurants,Bakerys and Bars. Shops are mostly closed on Sundays. Sundays are RestDays in Germany. Most Germans go for a Walk,go to Restaurants, Markets or relax at Home or vistiing Family. But it is not only in Germany, alot of Europeans doing it the same Way.

If I were you I would think about it for your children! You would come out of it without debts! Plus you give them a huge opportunity to be multilingual! 😅 without considering the future medical expenses that could come! then in Germany everyone speaks English, integrating is not that difficult, especially if you study the language a bit before leaving! here we say WHERE THE WILL IS, THERE'S A WAY

Hi….you were wondering what he eats. This is a Leberkäsesemmel…translates to a roll with a hearty slice of livercheese. But there is no liver or cheese in it. Its a form of very fluffy meatpie. And if you you know how it tastes you would be crazy to get it. Best whishes

I really love Ryan's comment on how well put together everyone is sartorially and I'm sitting here in front of my PC in my dressing gown after a spending my work days in a suit (proper three-piece, I don`t need to wear "uniform" of navy and grey two-piece, heck I'm a bespoke shoemaker, needn't to a suit to begin with) and moaning about how *overly casual* everyone is... here in Germany... perspective I guess... though it probably just means I'm horribly vain and/or "extra". 🤣😅 Best regards Raoul G. Yes we Germans stare at people but its not only immigrants, we stare at each other too! One reason is curiosity but we are shy and cant do good facial communication. The other reason we are checking if anybody isnt obtaining the rules. Then we will judge the person xD

Many immigrants come to Germany from cultures where it is normal to stare someone down. As a woman I get that a lot and it's scary. I wouldn't say Germans stare worse.

The middle of the city is usually the oldest part. Buildings are more vulnerable because of old buildingmaterial. keeping cars out of the citycenter or have less traffic is also good for the environtment, less noise, less accidents, more space for walking, biking :)

oh btw.. if its asphalt roads.. its for definately made for vehicles... if its cobblestone or bricklayers.... its very likely to be a pedestrian area cars and trucks there are usually only allowed for deliveries up to like 5 or 8mph

It was a "Leberkäse" - which is finely minced meat, herbs, salt, ...baked in the oven and then cut into thick slices - kind of finely minced meat loaf. You eat it in a bread roll, or with the infamous "sauerkraut"! 😂 (a grumpy German is a sourKraut!😉) and of course a nice, cool, freshly drafted beer!
