Question… why do the teachings stay inside and not given to the masses I’ve always wondered but after doing my own studying I have learned so much more that most masons that I run into do not know or understand . But that’s besides the fact . My biggest concern is why aren’t masons telling the truth about who exactly the story of hyram is truly about and the meaning behind him being hit on the head and knocked unconscious here in the north gate . Because we all are masons . As you should know it simply means mother and son . So why keep the knowledge secluded when it’s the birthright of the people to know the sciences and pass down the knowledge which in my opinion could help society in so many different ways . Even down to the history of the fez and where it truly comes from as well as why the tassel is tied down . (Mine shall forever move freely 360 ) for knowledge is infinite and so is the mind . Karma is very real and the universe has its way of working things out . Seeing as how we are in the age of the Aquarius many things hidden in darkness will soon come to light. For everything that is in secret is sacred . Peace and love to you my brother . I do not come from a place of hate but I do feel that as masons and leaders we should also do our part in uplifting humanity. Not just with charity but with knowledge and love as well

Great commentary I have been attending a masonic revival lodge. That has increased its membership in attendance for the past 10 years. By raising its dress code to a white glove standard. And having a member give a 10 to 15 minute talk about the sock education of some variety. This talk is first written 3 to 4 pages and presented to the Master for approval before it’s presented in the rain so in essence like going to a lecture or symposium everything. The meeting location is a 250-year-old building with all the accoutrements of such.

I agree with many of your comments on the fraternity brother. I come from a small town lodge in Maine and many of our meetings are like that. My younger brother and I are the youngest members their besides a high school friend of mine, I’m 29 so there’s a huge age gap. We’re implementing a lodge education program where we talk about different Masonic related topics every lodge meeting. Luckily the older members are all for it and we have a few that have vast knowledge on esoteric subjects. One thing that helped me when I first became a Mason was jumping into the officers line. I learned A LOT about our ritual, also talking to older brethren and reading books about our fraternity. Joining Scottish Rite really opened my eyes up though, that’s what I really was looking for in Masonry, luckily I found a notch. Keep doing good work brother, I’m glad too see there’s many of us out their that want more from this magnificent fraternity and will do things to help propel it to the prestige of our past. It's important to keep an open mind and to get to know people. Spiritual rewards are there waiting. Just because the stepping stones of ritual can seem mundane and without meaning because the majority can't see that meaning, doesn't mean the meaning doesn't exist. It's up to each of us to get past this fear of the unknown and keep pressing forward.

I'm sorry you had this experience. Yes it's sort of the same in my Lodge but we try to do things with the wives and families away from the Lodge. Just friendly outings and family fun. That's critical for a good Lodge. It has to be about Family and trying to be better men not just fundraising/money. Masonry should be a benefit to a Brother and his family not a burden.

My home lodge (one I joined when I moved back to my home town in Mississippi, I became a Mason in Oklahoma in 2019) don't do much fundraising, it's a small town with like 100 people so it's understandable. But as a guy who's about to be 25 I learned that IMPROVING MYSELF THROUGH MASONRY (the thing that every Mason hears since joining) is what makes it worthwhile. Meetings are usually fun/saying who didn't show but what you learn from the craft work is what makes it worthwhile. My life has been changed and I myself have seen a huge improvement in how I treat/approach/talk to people and its really helped me be a better person

A friend offered me to join but I declined... lol "iT's A sIgMa ThInG, wHiCh Is WhY i FeEl ThE nEeD tO tElL tHe InTeRnEt HoW sIgMa I aM." Having a community of spiritual folks to talk to about rituals, practice, ethics, esotericism, occultism, etc is not an impediment or a crutch; its another avenue to continue to hone, practice, and expand on one's own journey. It doesn't make you "better" or "more sigma" for not being a part of the order. The fact that you feel compelled to compare your metaphysical phallus to this other individual shows a lack of maturity, and highlights a deficient understanding of spiritual matters. You would get chewed up and spit out if you joined any serious spiritual organization, which sounds like the exact thing you need to put your ego in check. This doesn't negate the progress that you have make individually, but it does underpin the potential handicap that you have unnecessarily placed upon yourself because you are afraid of losing yourself, your identity, drive, passion, and understanding if you were confronted with other peoples ideologies, practices, knowledge, and understandings, which shows how frail your actual understandings are to begin with.

I appreciate the share and I am a part of a few fraternal organizations. I believe you have to have a vision for what you are looking to bring to wherever you serve. If you don't have a vision you will always end up serving someone else's vision. Yes, I appreciate what I get from my lodge, but in my interview process they asked me what I was looking to contribute to the lodge. I believe that was key. My vision is to assist in building the lodge and go deeper in my personal knowledge. I would again say that you must have a vision for where you see yourself within the mission of the brotherhood and you can add or you will always be disappointed. The scriptures say, "People perish for a lack of vision". I have no tone to my share, but I pray it makes us think about our personal vision or lack thereof and being clear about that instead of possibly expecting something or someone else to give you a vision. Blessings.

Greetings and thank you for your perspective in this video. I have always had the opinion as Pike and Manly P. Hall that the best Freemasons were already practicing Freemasonry in its esoteric form before they were ever initiated into a Lodge. Which means that a Lodge could be a place where people who already have been practicing to selfless acts of Freemasonry and seeking spiritual fulfillment could find more truths through going through the degrees and studying the likes of Pike, Hall and Wilmhurst among others. When I joined my Lodge I was quickly dismayed by the eagerness to grow numbers and the expectations placed on me while I fought bladder cancer and was caring for a sick wife, the expectations that I should never miss a meeting and the “what have you done for us lately?” Attitudes I encountered. I knew there was something more pure about Freemasonry than this, something that changes a person to be better, so I started reading Morals and Dogma by Albert Pike and then I began a blog where I would post a few paragraphs from a chapter starting with chapter one and add my opinion as to what I believed Pike was teaching and how we could apply his words to our own lives today. That blog lead to a monthly article in The Working Tools Magazine and then lead me to form this non-profit which was formed to teach Masonic philosophy as a means to improve society. I have posted videos regarding Masonic symbolism on my channel and continue to write the Morals and Dogma blog (now on chapter 31). I do not attend Lodge any longer but I will always promote the virtues of Freemasonry as Freemasonry has indeed changed my Life and my way of thinking. Godspeed on your own continued journey. S&F Johnny

@Universal Freemason I was shocked and dismayed to read of the way that you were treated. In most Lodges, those with problems like yours are offered emotional and practical support, kindness and understanding. Your Lodge was being run very badly, by the sound of it and those in positions of influence therein, should be removed. We'd much rather you stayed away from the Lodge while you were sorting your problems out.. the last thing we want is for Masonry to disturb the harmony of the home. In English Freemasonry (I'm an English Mason) and I'm sure in 99% of constitutions the order of priority for members is 1. Family 2. Work 3. Freemasonry. If your Freemasonry disturbs any of the first two, we'd encourage the Mason not to come to meetings. You seem like a good man and an excellent Mason. My advice to you is to take your time.. but join another Lodge. When you find a Lodge you think may be worthwhile, attend socials.. get togethers.. barbecues etc. Get to know the guys and their families. Then, if you think they would be good for you and vice versa, apply to join. You would be an asset to any Lodge you joined and the fact you are not enlightening someone with your knowledge and attitude is a real shame.

The realist thank you for the exceptionally kind words. There will be a day when I will seek to be a member of a lodge again if I can find a lodge with the intentions of education of esoteric ideals and growth is secondary. In the meantime I am finding much fulfillment with operating Universal Freemason Research Society and I do see people change their viewpoints towards Masonic ideals and change their lives as a result. I will heed your advice, Brother. And your encouragement was much needed. S&F

I almost walked away for the same reasons you stated, But once I got involved in concordant bodies it re-ignites my passion for freemasonry again

When an individual is Entered, Pasted & Raised you almost have to know what you’re looking for before you get involved otherwise a person can be turned off & disillusioned. I joined at 23yrs old & was put off at first & became inactive. Now after studying deeper & gaining more insight I definitely am glad I joined. It is extremely enriching & can definitely add to one’s spiritual & intellectual growth & be a benefit to a young man’s life I’m 50 now. Again YOU DEFINITELY HAVE TO KNOW WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR BEFORE YOU JOIN. PLUS DEFINITELY KNOW IT WHEN YOU FIND IT.

Wot you say is so true..I'm a mark master mason here in the uk and I've noticed there seems to be a old boys club within the lodge. So many brothers seem to be stuck in there old ways and don't care about new members and they don't care about them ..they don't even realise that new members carry on the traditional ways off freemasonry but they don't care as they will have left or retired..the biggest problem I have found is at the meal after certain people put cards down on the tables so they can all sit together and I've even had my card moved numerous times without been asked.i thought it was about meeting others but how can you wen you always seem to be outcast from others..no body seems to want to rock the boat with these groups...as a Mark master mason haven't I earned the right to sit were I want ..things need to change in so many ways in freemasonry (not the traditional ways) But I know 1people have left while I've been in and I'm now thinking off going down that rd.im not putting the time in if all I get is moved around to suit others .it's a shame as there is some great brothers but also there is some ignorant brothers who don't care (old school as we have named them) ..shame I think I'm going to leave but I suppose some things will never change..thanks for listening I've had my moan now lol

This exemplifies what is seen in many craft lodges today. It has become lodge business and kudos to brethren . Many toil to attain titles for self worth. This is not the craft, the old men when I joined were a different breed. The focus was on fraternity, family and self betterment . Without this focus you may as well join the elks or rotary. Education, introspection and guidance is elemental. The “G” is not just a letter but central to the tools provided. The craft is not only within the confines of each lodge but what each member exhibits in their daily walk. The tools are provided, we must hold each other accountable how we use them. Otherwise we are therefore only groups of men meeting for the sake of such; without daily labor the exercise is futile.

G is for Gematria, which is where geometry came from. The Bible talks about the Antichrist, and how CRAFT will prosper in his hand. Psalms 118:22 says,"The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner." Do you really kid yourself and think that King David and Jesus was only talking about the pharisees? HE WAS REFERING TO YOU GUYS TOO! Where do you think all this secret knowledge came from? There is nothing new under the Sun. You trust in Egypt. Remember what the Lord did to Egypt at the hand of Moses and Aaron? These little clubs are adultry against the Lord. When you see a G and compass on a grave stone, you might consider where their soul is. Repent before it's too late because Jesus is coming back.

I quit Freemasonry because the lodge in Delaware is still segregated. I joined and had no idea. I often wondered why it was only white guys in the lodge, but I assumed it was just a matter of interest. Then one night at a meeting two brothers from out of state, one white and one black came to visit our lodge. I was told the black man was not going to be allowed to sit in lodge with us. I was absolutely floored. These men who preached about being good men and good brothers were immediately black balled in my mind. I wanted nothing to do with an organization that could let that happen. I never went back. I never looked back. Good riddance.

As an EA degree holder, I get both sides of this. the mundane parts combined with the endless fund raising without much else is off putting but it gives some of the older members a purpose and makes them feel useful in a world that has seemingly passed them by. But to ask for pageantry for all meetings would also be exhausting. One thing that may help excite and retain new and younger members is to try and capitalize on the resurgence of debate. Hold lectures and debates in with the public is invited. Show engagement with the topics of the day while hearkening back to the wisdom that brought us to this day. This is just an idea that may entice more intellectual and savy youth to be excited by Freemasonry.

We’re you expecting more of a “spiritual” experience or something? I’m confused as to why the fund raising and meetings are “mundane” in an organization that supposed to be this way... Shows me thru the discernment of God that these videos are an attempt to “re define” what free masonry is to the public. When you have the light of Christ Jesus it will SHOW YOU these people without a shred of covering. Anybody who makes this type of video is attempting to re define the nature of what has already been exposed. I appreciate your service 🤣

I do respect that you got into freemason for good reasons, but that doesn't mean you should speak about them because of your bad experience. People do the same thing about Jehovah's Witnesses. This is wrong because when people listen to this JW bashing, they think they are right, but their not. These bashers should understand that having man's way is not the right thing to do because when you listen to the next person you then find out he has a different opinion. Don't you think that you should study the bible with someone who has faith? What some people don't know about the truth might hurt them. Satan owns this world so why would anybody listen to this devil? I'm not saying that JW have more members than any other religion, but what I can tell you for sure, is that in 1981 they had about 3 million members. Today, they have over 9 million members. Because of this large increase do you think they are crazy? People should not listen to everything on the KZbin videos due to false information. People are so naive. It's much better to hear it from the horse's mouth.Go to meetings and find out. Donations are not done under the nose; it's only volunteer.

EA myself, and being young (below 30) I think debates would be an extraordinary way to bring in new members. Even charge a small fee for tickets as a way to fundraise. It would allow people of diff viewpoints to come together for a night and if interested petition the lodge. Don’t see why that’s inherently bad, I think more young men are hungering for purpose and attainment, why wouldn’t the fraternity show itself to be a place where they can do that?

Iff the loges in america in ure region are only fixsated on making money and act like big shot's because of that, then they have lost the true purpose of why it's founded by hiram abiff. Its all in the mental growth and to see ure self in a humble and perspective light. We have a saying in ouer loge and in the loges i visited and i think all loges in the netherlands say this, And that is, u always stay a first degree mason. Because u always see something new and u always learn more about ureself and the people around u. I think some loges in different country's lose theyre way in the true insight of freemasonery. Awesome people. They’re also Scottish rite and Shriners. Best decision I’ve ever made. It’s not the days of the crusaders but it’s a brotherhood and your treated like family, the wives and kids get to meet. I have no complaints where I came from and type of people I hung out with in the past, were the same way but different walk of life. I was never judged and I was never involved in any bs I watched people and learned from their mistakes. I’m on my spiritual journey now, I found the rosacrutian order is perfect for me. I don’t know how things are in Texas, but I’m Georgia my lodge and the lodges around me are very different. They are much more that what your lodge sounds like. There is much more of a brotherhood, helping the local community, fellowship, and knowledge to be learned. My lodge was chartered in 1853, and we have been learning about the history of our lodge this year. And there’s nothing more satisfying as a Mason to work hard to raise funds then see those funds get paid out by the lodge to: people in need, children’s scholarships, Masonic home of Georgia, and other things we support. I’m fortunate to have such a good lodge with great people. Salt of the earth people that will give you their last dollar and the shirt off their back!

Nice talk, thank you for sharing that. I completely relate to your perspective, and can tell you that when I joined, it was during a time when I'd decided I'd needed to start a new path in life. My family had been involved and all of that so I decided to try and take part in some of my family's heritage. Right form the beginning I was met with intimidation and I'll never forget the Master of the lodge standing there next to the table as I has handing in my application with a directed intense look that said "get out." He lightened up later, but it served as a challenge to me. After my first degree I moved states and was brought back in after meeting someone form a local lodge in the new town who helped arrange a conferral to finish my degree work. Same story. Master at the new lodge was just outright nasty, taking it as a further challenge to try and prove that I was "good enough" The lodge, unfortunately was in dire straits with barely enough officers to fill the line, and so I ended up stepping in as JD. As you mention, ongoing meetings about fundraisers... on and on about the same stuff, BUT I've developed a rapport with the other guys at the lodge and think it a wonderful opportunity to socialize whereas otherwise I would have nothing else to do. I've since decided to step away due to the prospect of it consuming so much time, and now as a JW approaching Master I see that there are going to be obligations over and above that which I'll be able to dedicate myself to. So, being there ultimately does not serve me, but the lodge is at least served by having my butt in an office but really by no other means, and the only thing keeping me from stepping away is that I would leave the lodge in a predicament by doing so, especially due to a gap in the current officer's line. If I left, there would be no installed Senior officers, so I can't simply leave everyone hanging like that. The gap will be closed after next year and so I expect there to be no problem. It's been interesting.

I just want to get my finances straight before I dive back into it; most of the guys were 64+ and retired to the point where they don't have to worry about money. The fees and traveling add up quick and take its toll. I'm coming back in the future but I just want to finish building a successful business first. Masonry is really fun at heart but not when it starts to look like a burden.

Very well said brother. I'm in Louisiana and have been pushing for esoteric study classes and other educational/historical lessons and/or debate sessions within the lodge meeting for three years, and every time I mention it, everybody in there over sixty looks at me like I'm crazy. The few younger members we have are interested, the older gents just want to have coffee, read the minutes, and go home. And you're right, it's like that in every lodge I visit over here. A little better in the York and Council lodges and in the Templars, but even then, most of our best conversations and discussions occur before or after the actual meetings. Be well!

Some of your points are very valid. When I joined the lodge, I was looking for something with deeper and more esoteric meaning. I thought degree work and even stated meetings would carry more formality than they did. What I quickly learned was that stated meetings were mostly "old men bitching about a nickel", and degree work was mostly performed by unprepared individuals who had about as much appreciation for ceremony as they did the hot-dog and chili dinner that came before it. That said, like you, I did some reading and some learning on my own, and also talked to others. Unfortunately, our fraternity has been changed and shaped by the world. In the younger days of our fathers and grandfathers, they did not have the societal distractions we do. There was no evening TV, kids in travel ball, restaurants for entertainment, etc. Even church was largely a place you went on Sundays -- not someplace that demanded your involvement 3-5 days a week. They had the TIME to invest in the fraternity, and likely derived a lot more from it. Also, the fraternity bonded many of those men together as they went off to fight in various wars and conflicts. This is not to say that is entirely lost. There are still places I'm aware of that still conduct degree work in tuxedos with white gloves and candles, or hold meetings or degree work in wooded areas. Many lodges now are indeed largely 'service organizations' that are about involving the whole family -- because they think that's what people want. However, I tend to desire higher standards, more selectivity (enough with the one-day classes!), and more formality. I would much more prefer a pre-work dinner of chicken Parmesan and wine than old hot dogs and black coffee. And I'd prefer the lodge to be a place where people spoke of art and recited poetry -- not just sitting around talking about glory days. Maybe someday I'll find this lodge, but for now I'm content to study on my own.

The lodge I attend wears white gloves, Full suits, Steak and potatoes, high quality roast beef, beautiful lodge. However I did have an experience with a lodge in TX while I lived there with lower quality things. I was hoping for more formality because it makes the ritual and allegories more "real" if that makes sense. And your ears pick up more if you have respect for your environment.

I had my own expectations of clicking on this video from the Reddit Freemasonry section, and I am pleased that it did NOT meet them. :) Very good video! I am a newish Master Mason myself, and wanted to join when I was somewhat settled in life. Joining the Fraternity can be a daunting experience, whether young or old and Freemasonry, like anything else, is what you make of it. Whether it is joining for service, or fellowship, or serving your community, or for the esoteric meanings, or learning/developing leadership skills, or even all of the above, one can have as a fulfilling experience as one wants to make it in the Craft. It is my personal hope to make my experience in the Craft as meaningful as possible. Keep inspiring, Brother.

MGTOWInBetweener as Freemasonry is not a church or religion (so it does not need to discriminate) but merely requires that its members have a dedicated belief in a supreme god; all monotheistic religions provide a moral fabric that contain virtues and obligations to do the good and right thing. By setting a pre-requisite to characters with an upright moral code, deeper bonds of trust may ensure because you are all coming from a similar moral constitution. And your comment “look at what they do” haha we meet with people that share our interests some of us attend allot of dinners together and sometimes have drinks over conversations of what we are doing to better ourselves in character or helping each other learn a speech. My lodge currently is planning a bowling night and the following week a potluck dinner --Ooooooohhhh spooky stuff right? What are we going to take over the world one buffet diner and bowling league at a time? How about if we went to restaurants that haven’t been getting much business lately and our eating there made a difference to the owner and if us bowling is too much competition for you we would be happy to chance or venue to accommodate your selfish needs.... say how does shuffle board sound?

It has been said many times, yet it does not lessen the importance of the phrase "you only ever get out of Freemasonry what you put in". Return to your Lodge. Speak to the longest serving, wisest Mason you know and tell him your concerns. you cannot expect anyone to be a mindreader. Ask him how you should proceed to rekindle the interest you once had. Thanks for making this video. I joined and eventually became a 3rd degree Master Mason in the blue lodge, and 32nd degree, Scottish Rite Freemason. I hoped to spend more time saving the world, and growing my consciousness and understanding of the metaphysical, but felt uninspired by getting dressed up, just to hear lodge minutes, have a beer and burger after the meeting and get back home so late. I have found that I've learned more about light, consciousness, the soul realm, sacred geometry, platonic solids, frequency, vibration, ancient belief systems, manifestation, and esoterics with my wife, who clearly isn't even a mason. It feels like a long walk for a turkey sandwich. I still pay dues though, just because I support the brothers, and want what's best for them. And also a desire to fulfill obligations.

I was very active going through the chairs and couldn't wait to arrive at practice and meetings. Once my year was finished, I tried moving on to both the Scottish Rite and the York Rite, but I didn't find the same camaraderie I'd experienced in Blue Lodge. I'd also watched as my friends, who were involved like me, but older, passed away. Eventually, I felt burned out, and while I maintain membership, I no longer participate. Still, the time I spent there made me a better person, and it was the greatest time of my life.

@Justin Haffner Several points of your description don't sound like what I'm familiar with. You can't be forced to do anything in Freemasonry. There are no "plays" in Blue Lodge -- that's more of what takes place in the Scottish Rite degrees. The only people in a tux are the officers, although in most jurisdictions, you're expected to dress in a respectable manner, ie a coat and tie much as you would in church.
@FirefighterKWann

@@DavidSmith-qo1se AGREED...here in my Lodge, we are required to wear a suit and tie, unless an officer as you said in a Tux they must be in. Call them plays Justin, or whichever you wish brother, but remember one thing NO ONE forces you to become a Mason, not even your Dad, that is the golden rule of being a Mason, is believing in a higher power, and never recruiting someone, by forcing it on someone unless they ask YOU about it. Just sharing my thoughts brother, I hope you will also if you sit in the chairs or wherever you sit, YOU take it in, cause what and how you look at being a Mason makes the difference, you get what you put into it. Many US lodges are like this. I had the great pleasure of sitting in Lodge in the Phillipines and seeing FC degree, and let me tell you, they take Masonry VERY seriously there. The candidate gave a flawless EA proficiency (2x as long as the long form US proficiency) and when I asked him how long it took him to learn it, he said it took him 2 weeks. The degree event was a full day event with two meals and a break between the sections. No one was in a hurry to leave and we all hung out and talked for hours after. It was very refreshing and I would love to bring some of these practices to my Lodge.
