Why I switched from Fujifilm to the Sony FX30 - my honest journey. Leave a comment and let me know about your camera journey! Sony only? Fuji fan?
@jasonm129Ай бұрын
I started with canon left for the Fuji compact size but the autofocus is why I went back to canon. After about 2 or 3 events with the Fuji was all I needed to plan my return 😂 it was just too many missed shots, especially in lower light

It's unfortunate that you had so much trouble with Fujifilm autofocus. I hope that creators publicly announcing ongoing autofocus issues motivated them to switch to another system will drive Fujifilm to fix their system.

It's crazy! They're the best in terms of image quality and colors, I think! Clearly capable and oh so promising! The saddest part is that when the X-H2s came out - it was everything I needed!

I'm doing the same for the same reason. Except keeping the GFX 100SII with 55mm 1.7. It's AF is pretty decent and images it produces is sublime.

Thank you! And wow, what a combo with the GFX100S II + 55/1.7. That medium format image quality is hard to beat! 📸 We have the GFX100SII at work and with the 80mm F/1.7, it's amazing!

What if Fuji's promised firmware update later this month fixes all the AF issues? Will you be back? I was loaded up with a bunch of Fuji gear since X-T1 release. X-H2 released, ran out to try it, sold everything and went A7RV. Tired of promised AF improvements which turned out less than hyped. Rather amused to find out AF gotten even worse since I last tried out the X-H2.
@WesKriesel21 күн бұрын
The AF improvements would be intriguing, but I've moved on based on what works for me now rather than future promises. Sounds like you had a similar journey with your switch to Sony. Thanks for sharing your X-H2 experience 📸

If you do video most of the time, it makes sense to switch to Sony. Fujifilm autofocus has improved tremendously, but it is still lacking in video. For photography, however, I would pick Fujifilm any day over Sony. Fuji colors always get me really close to what I want. Fuji also has the best community of all the brands. You will meet many true photography enthusiasts. I went to a few Sony meetups and most were after everything except for photography.

Totally agree on the video vs photo distinction! Video work made Sony the right choice for me. 📸

It would be great to know why Sony, why not Canon, Nikon or Panasonic. Cameras like the R6II, Z6III or S5IIX seems like a better value than Sony
@WesKrieselАй бұрын
@@amermeleitor great suggestion - I’ve had Canon and Panasonic in the past. I liked Canon ok but not Panasonic. Could have given Panasonic a chance again, I suppose. I was actually mostly influenced by a friend who switched from Fuji to Sony and loved it. @goughie

@@WesKriesel thanks! I was waiting until the market settled to make my migration to mirrorless. So for me it's interesting to know what are the reasons for your change. I think I'll go with Nikon, Fuji or Sony, I'll wait until 2025, maybe Canon open the mount (surely they not) or Fuji fixes the AF up to Sony level (surely not) or Nikon allow to use APSC lenses in full frame mode (surely not) or DJI disrupt the market with a new line of mirrorless cameras (maybe). I had Sony years ago and I didn't liked it, and now Sony bodies are pricier than others. Nikon seems like the best for the price overall.

So much lighter than Canon and you get access to 3rd party lenses. Making me want to switch! 😭

The irony is that Sony has been at the top of their game with AF since the A7III released, but when Panasonic, a player thats used to be the best video AF from 2009 - 2015 until the Samsung NX1 came out completely flatlined in AF performance, got more reliable with the GH6 but still only useful at higher refresh rates, they then released the S5II, G9M2 and GH7 with PDAF, matching Sony, in some cases doing better job, specially tracking faces the Panasonic is far superior at longer distances, most people forget, Panasonic had face detect with the GH1 before anyone else. But Fujifilm has become consistently worse, its shocking the incompetence at display, everyone are improving their AF, except Fujifilm, even Pentax has better video AF which to me is sort of hilarious.
@WesKrieselАй бұрын
You've really done your homework on AF evolution! You're spot-on about Panasonic's journey - from pioneering face detection in the GH1 to their impressive comeback with the S5II/G9M2's PDAF. This exact AF reliability issue was why I switched from Fuji to Sony for my video work. While I loved many aspects of Fuji, dependable video AF became essential for my needs. Great insights on how different brands have evolved! 🎥

Why? Because if you happen to shoot video, the damn Fuji can't even autofocus like the rest of the competition do.
@WesKrieselАй бұрын
Yep - video AF reliability made Sony the clear choice for my work! 🎥
@panmaewАй бұрын
@WesKriesel And to make the matter worse, if you haave had enough of the AF shortcomings and decided to do full manual focus. No luck because either the servo motors in virtually all the lenses that's coupled to the focus ring simply CAN'T transition focus smoothly, and in some cases silently. I am not talking about the old or early generation Fuji XF lenses but the newest, some very expensive ones marked LR that suggests they are driven by linear motors as opposed to the conventional still photography ring type or geared motors.
