Thanks for the update. I'm glad that it sounds like you've had some pretty rich & fulfilling experiences traveling & living abroad as long as you did.

The same problem of being asked about staying a 2nd year so early on also applies to be asked about staying on a 3rd year after having only been there for little more than one year. I still think the sweet spot is two years… the seasons and various festivals are a *big deal* in Japan and experiencing them is extra magical the 2nd time around… you feel much more at home than the 1st year when everything is new and unfamiliar. Some (but not all) 3rd years are slightly hardened, perhaps wishing they had left after two years. Many are happy every day they get to experience a truly incredible country.

I'm Japanese but I've never been to Tsushima. I stayed in San Francisco for 3 months tho. According my friend who are comming to Japan on JET soon you can request your favorable region like big cities, countryside, anywhere else but Tokyo, cold place warm place. When you speak Japanese well it's likely they are going to send you to countryside.
@logiebear
@logiebear 4 жыл бұрын
They do let you request, but they usually don't take it into consideration. It seems pretty random! I requested the Osaka area. One of the other ALTs in Tsushima didn't know any Japanese at all. How did you like San Francisco?
@kojitakeda794
@kojitakeda794 4 жыл бұрын
@@logiebear I think it also depends on what kind of ALTs schools want. I know two ALTs who speak Japanese fluently and one person is in small village in Kochi and another is comming to Sado. But as you know bureaucrats in Japan do unefficient things sometimes. I stayed in the US for 5 months and stayed in San Francisco for 3 months. I didn't have any plans when I was in the US and when I went to San Francisco I just liked it there and wanted to stay as long as possible. I was born and raised in Osaka. People here are super kind and friendly. It could have been different if they sent you to Osaka.

Btw, don't mind me asking some questions, just curious to know from your perspective. 1) Do you consider Japan as a highly developed and advanced country ? 2) How would you personally rate Japan (from culture to technology, architecture, food, local products, scenery/landscape, standard of living/quality of life, etc.) on a scale level of 1 to 10 ? 3) What is your overall impression with the Japanese people ? 4) If you have 3 words or more to describe Japan, what would it be ?

I lived right outside Tokyo and the pizza is ok. Pizza restaurants are very common. There are some really odd toppings you can get. Like corn and mayo as toppings. You can find some Mexican food but it’s not great. Peruvian restaurants are more common because a lot of Japanese emigrated to Peru a long time ago and many Peruvian Japanese come back to Japan to work. Indian food was really good in Japan, lots of Indian people come to Japan to work construction.

I live in SF bay area also. I have never been to Japan, but would like to go. I am thinking of learning Japanese on my own at first and maybe work with an online tutor. I have plenty of time to study as I am a retired scientist. I probably spend too much time watching youtube videos about Japan instead of planning when to go there. Since I just found your channel and saw your apartment tour and this video I look forward to watching more of your videos.

@@logiebear I really enjoyed watching videos about Japan, but I think you made the right decision to move back to America. All of these people from poor Asian countries think of Japan like a paradise but that's not the case. Immigrants can go from rags to riches in America but in Japan that just not possible it's such a closed minded and racist society!

Stay away from Japan. Radioactive contamination problem is still ongoing problem in Japan. Almost 18,000 Japanese people died with cancer or leukemia caused by radioactive contamination from Fukushima. Stop eating radioactive contaminated food and water. Otherwise, you're going to get cancer, leukemia or infertility. Japan WAS good country but it's severely contaminated by radiation since Fukushima earthquake happened in 2011. Additionally Japanese government is trying to hide the truth about radioactive contamination. However, People have the right to know the truth and what's going on really in Japan.

Well, at least you're very diverse in your palate lol. Not just eating your own food, even in the states. I studied abroad in Europe for a semester and I did miss some food (homemade), but Europe is also very diverse, so yeah I can see why Japan would be less diverse in food

I totally get you with the food and fulfilling what you wanted to do while in Japan. I love my Italian food but when I got to Japan I found their Italian food plain (though I love the Japanese katsu curry, ramen and yakitori). when I got back to the UK i started missing the Japanese food. I decided to study at a university just so I could study abroad at my dream university in japan and experience an onsen. I did get the opportunity to study abroad in June-July 2018 for a summer school but it wasn't at the university i wanted to go to in Tokyo nor did I have enough money for Tokyo (I did go to Osaka and Kyoto though).even though i found out I failed uni in general while i was in Japan I was fulfilled with getting to study abroad and visit an onsen. I am already planning to go to Tokyo in 2022
