I once heard a story about a Kenyan lady (or Malawi/somewhere in Africa) whose online boyfriend visited her and got married. But because he paid dowry the moment they got to America he treated her as a slave. He intentionally isolated her for years. One thing Id ask myself before involving myself in a long distance relationship; why is this man looking for a long distance relationship whats the obstacle keeping him from pursuing the options he has nearby? It could be he is attracted to blk women and there aren’t many in his hometown or it could be he is a narcissist who is looking for his prey. Be careful out there ladies.

She made a wise decision to leave that marriage early, as many African women have suffered and perished in the hands of wazungus once they land abroad. Furthermore, living in the UK can help clear one's mind of various nonsensical beliefs about life. However, if one is not resilient, the experience can be quite challenging.

Grief from death or any other loss changes a person ,it makes one realize that many people whom we claim to be loving family or family members, are not as kind, thoughtful and accommodative as we would want them to be. Death of parents is an eye opener however life must keep going on.

I'm not sure I can fully connect with her story. She had a difficult childhood but also encountered some commendable good Samaritans along the way. It's clear the abusive relationship with her husband was unacceptable. She didn't like London, felt depressed, and needed her space-she wasn't ready for marriage, which ultimately contributed to its failure. The need for space should have been communicated and agreed upon beforehand. Additionally, moving to a new country, starting a life married to someone from a different culture, and facing the challenges of an expensive environment were bound to create stress and potential for depression. Don’t blame yourself for what happened. Thank you for sharing; I believe the story could have been presented more reflectively, focusing on personal growth rather than shifting blame.

Welcome back, Tess! I’m so glad you found the strength to leave that difficult situation. It’s truly commendable that you stood up for what you deserve, especially when many might have chosen to stay and endure rather than return to where they are genuinely loved and valued. You fought for both your happiness and your peace of mind, and I’m thrilled to see that you succeeded. I know your marriage taught you a lot, and while it’s heartbreaking that you lost your mum too soon, she would have been your guide in navigating relationships and marriage. I admire your courage in refusing to be mistreated. Keep up the hard work, and trust that God will continue to guide and protect you on this journey.

The same way I see...simply the way she express her self here, it's like she was equal to the man and such a marriage can't last. She doesn't know how to abey and that's why she talks of respecting and giving the space... giving space is for dating partners but not couples.

@@judynganga9821 I agree, even in towns and cities it’s not noisy, can’t compare it to Kenya, and the houses are definitely very well built.Never heard of any whose walls are made of cardboard tbh,I feel like a lot of the things she said are absolutely incorrect in terms of quality of living.

I agree.. UK isn’t as bad as it sounds. Tessa was already a self accomplished girl and wasn’t going to sit around. However if she’d been like some of us were she could’ve moved out and started on her own with all the right support in place.Yes services are scarce but when it comes to DV/ sexual assault the support is there. I’m sorry to hear her experience was this horrible. But all in all Tessa wanted to come back home..and she will do great things in the future. Bristol is a great city but has its own inequalities!

You are one girl who knows her own self-worth and were quick to waste no time in letting go of a toxic person who was more than ready to destroy your self-esteem and break your spirit. (People who love their own company, being alone, are usually strong people - because they are not looking or chasing other people validate them) There are many girls/ladies who are still prisoners of very toxic relationships that have reduced them into a shell of their former self.

I’m halfway through the interview but struggling to continue due to its vagueness-no clear names, places, dates, or context. As an African living in Europe for over two decades, I’ve seen many marriages fail due to ignorance, poor preparation, or misplaced expectations, and I can't tell which is the case here. Why conduct an interview without verifiable facts? What can be learned from this? Cultural differences between Africa and Europe are significant. If you’re entering another culture, it takes more than just finding someone attractive. Is that all an "analytical person" considers for a lifelong commitment? Very disappointing! I hope to get more clarity by the time I endure to the end now that I am already more than halfway through.
