I was searching for why I left surgery and then i found your video. I am 40 and i WAS a consultant surgeon. I switched on to radiology after cracking the exam. It's a lifestyle modification for me now. Surgeons are actually rewarded very less for what they do.

Thank you for sharing your story! I am in a very similar position to the one you were in and am applying for ST3 ENT training. I really respect that you took ownership of your life, thought about what you wanted long term and switched to radiology. When you lay it out so clearly, I have no doubt you've made the right choice!

Your thoughts on AI and outsourcing. I think the need for radiology reads will continue to increase exponentially but how much will be taken over by AI and outsourcing ? Yes, there will always be the need for some radiologists but how many.

Hi Jack, with taster weeks... did you organise them in your own hospital system? This is more of a logistical question; if you get a taster week for 3 days at a hospital you've never worked at before, who organises the swipe cards and parking access etc (especially on shorter notice)
@seharfarooq3298 Жыл бұрын
Hello - this video is very insightful thank you. What do you think about working at less than full time? Do you think working at LTFT would have made a difference? I'm considering surgical training but also worried about work-life balance.
@silasketgaskets8709 Жыл бұрын
i too left surgery albeit general surgery some decades ago. decided did not want to not sleep for 3 years just to get booted in the 3-4 year pyramid cutoff. many a competent 3rd year did not make it into 4th. was very common for residents with 3 years GS to enter rad, anesthesia, or even plastics before it became prestigious. does ENT have a pyramid in the UK ?? USA does not
@Mr.Radiologist Жыл бұрын
There are bottlenecks at several stages. For the ENT example, after medical school, you compete for Foundation years (2 years), then for core surgical training (2 years), then finally for ENT ST3 higher surgical training. Afterwards, of course you apply for a consultant job, which is also competitive.

Hello i'm new radiology resident and i used to hesitated between radiology and maxillo surgery. I choose radiology . But it my second week i'm lost. And don't know if i made the right decision or not.. i was afraid of doing the same operation in surgery plus it take so much time and it's long in my country.. 6 year + 2 years. Vs 5 radiology
@Mr.Radiologist2 жыл бұрын
Hey, congratulations on choosing radiology! It is much harder at the start of radiology because it's so different to anything most doctors have done before so it feels like being a beginner again. It definitely gets better as you go through so don't quit so soon - at least not before giving radiology a chance!
