@@hotmessteaching our district got a 3% raise. :) or :(, I'm not sure. I'm in the process of doing a Manual QA Software Tester Bootcamp. I find myself just seeing all these pitfalls in teaching now more than ever. Texas is now implementing a new rebranded and restructured STAAR test. I'm seriously flying blind, and sort of have a YAG but, eesshh.... it's hard especially when I'm the only teacher for my subject in my grade level. Thanks for your kindness Maxine. I'm still in shock I endured all of that. After I filmed this video about 2 days later ... my body went into pre-term labor at 25 weeks. It’s time for lawsuits. I am listening to many videos like this. Attorneys- please help teachers to get the attention of those in charge of these districts through lawsuits. This treatment is sickening and is outright abusive. The gaslighting is evil. I retired early and that was 10 years ago and have never looked back.

A principal is supposed to be a master teacher and not a master of teachers. I am sorry that you had to experience such a terrible academic year. It is apparent that your principal lacked empathy and grace for you this year. I would have documented all of those negative encounters and I would have had your primary care doctor or obstetrician write you a note to explain why you were in the emergency room. This way, the folks at your human resources would have understood that you were not abusing your sick days. You deserve better than this. All teachers deserve better than this as well. Thank you for your honesty. I bet Jesus would have started acting ugly if he met your principal. Take care.

Similar to the way they treat nurses. If no one comes to the next shift, depending on your state rules, they could hold you hostage making your shift up to 16 hrs long and threaten to pull your license for patient abandonment otherwise. As if not getting to go home to care for your own children isn't abandonment too. "many states stipulate that refusing mandatory overtime does not constitute patient abandonment. In order to safely navigate such situations, all nurses should familiarize themselves with the specific provisions of their state's Board of Nursing."

I cried watching this video, it is so unfortunate what you had to go through. While my situation is not at severe, the lack of appreciation and support across all levels has been the drawing point for me. I am looking into how I can transition out. It is just so unfortunate that this country keeps losing great teachers every.single.day, simply for the lack of opening up and listening to our concerns.

I’m sorry you went through that situation. I went through something similar a few years ago and it was a horrible, dark time in my life. I truly wanted to quit…and looking back at the situation now, I really can’t believe I didn’t quit. I was able to request to move schools..which I did and thankfully ended up in a much better situation but the stress, anxiety, and emotional abuse that I experienced at my old school had caused long term autoimmune issues that I will likely deal with the rest of my life. Teachers give up so much and it’s definitely a fine line at times whether it’s worth it or not.

I'm convinced the American work environment is trash in general. They seem to want to guilt teachers by using the students. The same way they want to guilt health professionals by using the patients. If someone needs a day of, then let them have it! Mental issues, anxiety, depression, and high blood pressure are out of control in America. Jobs are definitely a HUGE reason for those issues.

I'm so sorry to hear what you had to go through. It's a shame when you have so much love to give those kids, many of whom probably don't get what they need at home, and your care and experience in your craft is ignored by a bunch of micromanagers looking over your shoulder who think they know your job better than you. You held out longer than anyone should be expected to, and in the end, it sounds like you quit your boss, not your job. It did my heart good to hear you are a person of faith and I hope you can lean on that and pray without ceasing. You are a good person, and it is my prayer that none of those people wil take that away from you. I don't know if you've had your baby yet, but I pray the very best for you and your family. I think your husband and baby are very blessed to have you in their lives. Way to put your money away and plan for your future! You will have so much in wisdom to teach to your child. I once worked in a school district where I had to take a week off so I could attend my younger sister's funeral out of state. The head of human resources tried to fire me, and even sent me a letter to that effect, but fortunately, only the Board has the power to hire and fire. She retaliated against me in other ways. No one at the district or at my school ever said "we're sorry for your loss". Schools used to be a community, almost like family, and now they are cold and inhumane. That's why I regretfully retired after 32 years, even though I felt I had a few good years left in me. I feel so much better about myself and my life now.

I agree. I used to feel the exact way you described and even start sweating pretty badly from the stress. I'd try to pretend the person wasn't there, but I didn't help. Apparently, I asked questions instead of blindly following along and that made me his enemy.

My hat goes off to all the educators, and a lot of things need to change so that more teachers can come into the field and retain the teachers that want to leave, and teachers should get a major raise because you all don’t get paid enough for what you all have to deal with anyway, and whatever you decide to do, I wish you well.

One more what if... Teachers started nonprofit organizations in each county school system that implemented small class sizes for 2 hours. Involve child care and transportation facilities. Again making small class sizes. 2 hour sessions daily. So you reach 5 students every 2 hours. 8 hours a day is 20 students.

This is awful! I’m so sorry you experienced this! I wonder if there was racism involved, it just sounds like the principal had deep seated contempt for you.

No. My principal was a Black man. Everyone is usually shocked when I reveal that detail.

Why do they even require one to get a degree if they're just going to limit the specialists ability to teach in a creative, innovative way?? Especially when data shows their way doesn't work. Makes no sense

Mam today I made a mistake in copy correction. I teach maths. There was a division sum the answer should be 603 as quotient but the child has written 63 and missed 0 . It was my mistake I saw the statement for that word problem and sent a correction mark ✔️✔️ and the parent called me and scolded me for that mistake and told me that he should complain to my principal about this. I apologized sincerely for my mistake and he said it's fine. But I am feeling extremely guilty and scared about this. I am in my first year of teaching. Please mam suggest me what I can do about this...

I wonder if teaching for a private school would be different.

Unsure. I've never worked in a private school, but in my area the pay is usually lower.

@@hotmessteaching Yes, private school teachers are paid lower and have fewer benefit$ to boot. And as a private school teacher myself of over a decade, I can say that private school administrators treat teachers just as badly as do public school administrators. Sometimes the students do too! And don't get me started on (some of) the parents! At the end of the day, no matter what school one teaches at, there will always be politics, hierarchy, and other abuse bestowed unto teachers for no reason whatsoever! This is America: where teaching, learning, and education as a whole are at the very bottom of the list of priorities from the federal government on down!
