After playing these games for so long, the one thing I know for sure is that it's changed a LOT. Hell, I can only think of a handful of things that are even consistent with the series: 1. The world is depressing and everything has been, or will be destroyed. 2. Good weight and energy management will be your best friend. 3. The game WILL kick your teeth down your throat, but it will have features that'll ease the pain in some way. 4. Customization is literally half the game. Everything else will change depending on what you're playing, and that's what makes each entry special.

I never had that whole "Generation Hate Loop" thing like a lot of people. I think growing up with all three Mario Bros. games on the NES and them all being so different from each other kinda cemented a "A sequel doesn't have to follow TOO closely to the original" sort of mentality in me and being different never meant bad to me, personally. It takes a lot for me to say a game is bad compared to a lot of people. From Armored Core to the Mechwarrior games on PC I just always really liked customizable giant death machines, so as long as AC provides that, I think imma be a happy little boy.

I started in 3rd gen Well, technically, I started by renting AC2 from a Hollywood Video, not having the instruction manual, starting the game with no clue what to do and getting killed in tbe intro mission, and being disappointed with my weekend rental choice. For some reason though (the reason being I fricken love robots), despite that bad experience, I asked for AC3 for Christmas, and got it. And I loved AC3. I played it to death, beat every mission, unlocked every part, and I think grinded out enough cash to buy every part in the shop to have an easier time customizing builds. I would later get the previous AC games used, mostly for dirt cheap. Loved AC2, thought Another Age was too hard. Couldn't get past the blocky graphics of AC1, and only played around a little in MOA. When Silent Line came out I bought it new, I think. I didn't hate it, but I wasnt able to finish it. Some of those late missions kicked my butt and I had gotten a little too used to relying on Op-Intensify from AC3. Bought Nexus new. Was super excited for it, and was not disappointed. I think it's probably my favorite of the series. Excellent campaign, great story, and so much extra content on the bonus disk: remakes of gen 1 missions that made me appreciate how cool those games were. I think I got Ninebreaker and Last Raven used, but I didn't play them right away. But 4 is where I had my "Young Adult Dumbass" moment with the series. I didn't have a PS3 or 360 when it launched, so I didnt get to evaluate it for myself. I heard about it from my friend. The controls were dual-analog and you couldn't go back to the "superior" classic controls. You didn't have to kneel for shoulder cannons anynore. You can fly all the time. You dont even really customize your AC! You pick out of a number of standard designs instead (this last bit was just wrong, but I didnt know any better.) I decided AC4 sucked, and derided AC4 and AC4A fans for a while. I eventually bought the games because people liked them, and maybe they'd be fun even if they weren't "real" armored core games. I still pretty much just let them sit, not playing them. ACV had its multiplayer focus, and while it looked cool, I dont really dig online games. "I guess they don't really care about the old fans." I thought to myself while my friends were telling me about their awesome online matches. I really regret this one, vecause while I did eventually buy ACV on the cheap, and did go back and play (and love!) AC4 and AC4A, I know I've missed a big part of ACV that I can't get back. Didn't bother buying Verdict Day until literally the day after the AC6 announcement trailer. Hit up eBay and saw the game going for upwards of $100, and instead figured out how to get money onto my PSN account in order to buy VD on the PS3 store. I had planned to finish up V and VD before AC6 came out, but I still have some order missions in V to play. I also picked up Daemon X Machina, which scratched my AC itch a little, even if I did get into it after most of the community was gone. Every AC game has been excellent though. It is really the best mecha action series there is. I have full faith in AC6 and will probably be playing on launch as long as it runs on my PC.

I will say... I came in with AC3. And I never felt that AC4 was BAD, but I did feel it was different enough that it probably should've had a different title. And honestly, it's still the odd duck in the series, and I still wish it had a different name. But that ship has sailed, and we now have two different Armored Core fandoms as a result. The ones that came in with 4 have much different expectations than the ones who came in with... well any other gen. Making a single game that pleases both lynxes and ravens is a VERY tall order.

I mean if you can find a copy of four or four answer you get a similar idea you just don't get the visual on screen representation. People like this creator keep misconstruing the locking system which is exactly what he's showing up here in for with some kind of hard lock system it wasn't. In four you had a soft lock that was your targeting system. As long as they were within a certain range on your screen depending on your parts you would target them with your guns just like you're seeing in these older games. The only difference is it wasn't a physical box that you had to keep them in

@@huealter3366 no there was not. There was a auto targeting system that if they were on your screen it would aim your guns at them. It would lock your guns onto them and it would shoot in their direction. But the moment that they moved to the edges of your screen depending on how your system was set up depending on how close to the edge of your screen they had to be it would break that lock. The moment they were off the screen you had to turn your entire AC to face them so it would reengage the auto targeting system. But it did not auto lock onto them it did not hard lock onto them where it would turn the AC for you. And if someone was close enough they could dash around behind you and you would never get another lock on on them if they were good at it. There was no hard lock in for or for answers I know I spent more time on those games than I did any of the other ones

With all the changes over the series, they all still felt like Armored Core to me. The essence of AC in my eyes is the feeling the game gives you constantly throughout the story of being a new AC pilot and all the radio drama that comes with it and then becoming a legendary raven at the end and the renown that comes with it. The games do such a great job of making you feel as epic as the game portrays you to be throughout your journey. Along side its campaign, this is something that AC5 and VD do especially well for the series, with its multiplayer and how it was integrated into the game and I hope it is something that is retained with 6. Corporations, mech customization and the feeling of becoming the best pilot are what I think are some of the most integral parts to Armored Core.

"They don't make Soul-less games" Ha. I know that wasn't intentional, but given that Fromsoft does take elements from their other IPs (among others, Dark Souls), I think that's a funny way to put it. In any case, as an outsider looking in, I *kinda* get it? Elden Ring was in many ways very similar to DS3 (to the point that I've seen it cynically called Elden Souls or even DS3 DLC) and I think maybe some folks saw that and are now thinking on the slippery slope line of "maybe all their IPs are now gonna go that route". That was my immediate interpretation when I saw reactions to one of the trailers (the one VaatiVidya and a few others made a big argument out of) I see your point though. I'm no AC player (I'm *very* bad at fast-paced aiming so it never seemed like something I'd enjoy despite the customization) but I did see a lot of this generational hate loop playing Pokemon over the years (where after a few years, you can see a previously hated gen suddenly get lots of defenders, it's always funny). Premature judgment is never particularly helpful, but especially not in videogames, where watching and actually playing are VASTLY different experiences.

I would say they're doing this neat thing some remakes have done lately where they're taking the feeling of playing an original game well, and making that the baseline to play off of. Like we all learned how to hold a lock and pay attention, but if that's everyone now, we can all learn new tricks. We often learned the same stuff in the original case in point, look at any two third gen players trying to have a Rocket Duel. They will hit each other at the same dang time over and over without even thinking about it. It's the weirdest thing.

The thing that pisses me off the most about the hard lock discource is that people fundamentaly misunderstand WHY people that don't like it even dislike it.. it's got nothing to do with the hardlock being a "SOULS" feature or "Okay 4th gen had it but I hate 4th gen anyway". It's just a completely different game, fundamentaly, when it has that system AND THAT IS OKAY. The whole discussion has gone in so many different directions it's just annoying to even look at it anymore and I think you're completely overplaying the attitude shift between the oldgen games, it is nothing like what happened with 4th gen or 5th gen and what's going on now with 6th gen. NEXUS maybe, but give me a break. The whole thing is tiring and I just want to play the new game anyway, so I'm sorry that I won't be finishing yet an other video on it. Keep it up.

There was still a ton of strategy to the PS3 era, for way it's worth. 4th was a bit looser, but 5th got hyper technical with things like cutting off your boosters to improve your quick turn, combine that with hitting a wall for a side jump into a spinning Pile Bunker from the side because they made the mistake of following you into a cave. While it was really insanely hard to fight vs optimized UNAC squads, the multiplayer of the 5th was super deep on execution, to the point of being pretty overwhelming at times. Fun to break down mechanically, though.

ACV does have mission based hidden parts its the ACV tuning I didnt like which I was glad was changed in VD to be much more... "standard", anyway Verdict Day also has hidden parts so it didnt disappear entirely but it stops being a thing when you get to chapter 6 basically more than half way point in the game. Just for reference since its no longer a thing Tuning in ACV is essentially making an "NFT weapon" you say you want this X stat to be emphasize out of Fire Rate, Power and "balanced" tuning. The server then will decide on a "seed" for your weapon part as most arm weapons are only tunable which then you need to grind to max out the tuning bar only then is the tuning considered "complete" HOWEVER this is where the "NFT thing" comes into play the entire thing is based on RNG to a certain extent. So what the game designers intended you to do was to essentially buy weapons tune them and then SELL THEM INTO THE OPEN MARKET you don't however get paid the moment you sell it into the open market you will then wait for another person to BUY THAT PART then you get paid this is also the reason why your garage has slots for about 3000 parts realistically speaking you will not be able to use all of those slots unless you are role playing as an arms dealer. Again good ridance on ACV tuning it was honestly the weakest implementation of a tuning system. Imagine the kind of backlash if Elden Ring upgrade worked the same way as ACV its not even funny its basically akin to having a max out Estus Flask but each player has "different" amounts of it or heals X amount

I have to admit, I was CONCERNED at those trailers. Especially when I saw the bosses with telegraphed attacks and the quickboosts that gave some s to dodge through them. Using tricky moves to avoid the way enemies would lead you with your shots was tons of fun for me and I didn't want it replaced with a rhythm game. But then, I suspect that I'd feel the same way if I started playing Armored Core a lot earlier and found out how Nexus messed with booster heat and overboost. Not that Nexus is exactly my fav game in the series even now, but you get the idea. I'll buy it and probably enjoy it for what it is. Whether I go back to playing the classic games right afterward is something only time will tell.

Just getting to this one, but watching it over again, it doesn't look like s...and technically we did have some of that in 4th gen. When they get slapped by the hands, they get damaged, the computer mentions they got whacked for about half their AP, even if we can't see the count. This almost makes me wonder if we haven't seen the UI because they want people to assume there's souls frames? Ah well, they know what they're doing, it'll kick ass regardless. It's because these devs have a history of doing weird things for good reasons, and we finally get the sequel we wanted after over a decade only for a loud minority to start shouting from the rooftops to ignore it due s change absolutely no one fully grasp yet, and likely won't until months after release. They've earned a lot of good faith over the years for their strange designs, and both sides are acting in a fear of the same thing happening. Both sides want their favorite thing to be good and popular. Personally I'm seeing that scene of the AC plinking a few shots from the smokestack and immediately thinking of how tricky it was to break limbs in LR. They've had this idea before, they've even implemented it before. We just don't want to see what's looking to be one hell of a solid thing getting panned because it's different before it gets a chance to fully show itself, if that makes sense. (Personally, I already saw this happen with my other favorite franchise, and the results were tons of bad reviews from people that never even tried the new systems. It's frustrating to see, and helps no one. Damned if I didn't spend months and still now to try and clear some eyes. Seemed to be successful, though, so that's good. )

It's one thing to be worried or concerned. It's another to express it over and over again on the internet. When you do that on the internet, you're going to attract some very unwanted attention, sometimes from me. I'm going to try to be nice, and explain to you why your worries and concerns NOW of all times is fruitless. AC6 has already finished development. FromSoft has already decided what they want gen 6 Armored Core gameplay to be, and there's nothing we can say to change that. Right now, FromSoft is building up hype so they can get as many sales as possible. Even if all of your worries and concerns are legitimate, nobody is going to listen or take you seriously NOW. The only chance you're going to get to have your worries heard by the right people is AFTER AC6 launches, when the most bugs, glitches and balance issues will be live and present.

Most of the complaints I've seen from you in numerous reply sections in numerous Armored Core VI videos boiled down to "Imagine if Halo or COD had autoaim/aimbot" to try and justify your 'concerns' for what ACVI is going for. Because apparently a highly advanced war machine hailing from a spacefaring civilization run by megacorporations must still use WW1 tank controls to aim their stuff. There's also the fact that we haven't seen how multiplayer works in 6th Gen yet. Do you honestly think that, considering the amount of time FS is spending in this game (FIVE YEARS of development), they wouldn't try to balance things out?

Alot of ppl may not remember this.... but in the early days of third gen around 2002-2003 a lot of people used to complain that armored core was getting way too formulaic and needed to change.... I am old enough to remember in forums ppl complaining that certain mission archetypes were repeating (guard train, eliminate/release bio weapon infestation, destroy vats in fuel depo, destroy the computer, destroy the ai/controller (which was a retelling of the ai in ac1). Also some vets were complaining that ac battles in arena were wayyy to easy.. hell I remember a ac vet arguing that the arena in silent line and the first rank ac mobius was WAY easier than ace and that he never got below 5000ap when playing the arena or missions compared to ac3.... that's how ingrained the old system/controls was for the vets.. Hell ppl even noticed that the general look of the acs circa first gen to third were looking too simular.. Then nexus hit and the complaints went the opposite direction.. Don't believe me, look up old neoseeker forum posts on silent line and ac3 and ppls opinions on them (circa say... 2002-2005 and look at the general perspectives... oh no! my game where all the weapons lock on is adding a... *checks notes* mechanic where all the weapons lock on. honestly i don't think hard lock even will make a difference versus being able to just turn quickly and precisely with KBM and From might reasonably see it as a necessity to keep controllers on an even playing field. i generally don't like mechanics that abstract things, i like games that aim for a sort of Ace Combat level of faux-realism at least where you're generally in control of most things fairly directly even if it's not a sim- but the AC6 lock system actually looks kinda interesting. i look at the footage and think it's pretty slick, even with my biases and my little pipe dream that one day we'll get an AC-esque game that has typical shooter controls (you look at how fast shit gets in New Blood's holy trinity and tell me that isn't possible), i can see how this improves this particular game, how it builds on mechanics and mechanics build on it. and this is the part where i'd say i respect everyone else's opinion, and like i *do*, but i also feel like the community reaction really has been much ado about nothing. then again i've only played LR and V and my favorite of those two was V so what do i know

So any of the changes I've seen look welcome adding cinematic epicness to pilot duels and stuff like that amazing. I feel like I get put in the category that hates the new. That's just not true. I believe healing not only takes away from the theme in armored core but promotes longer missions like in 5. It wasn't fun. I got exhausted and found it confusing to tell where one mission ended and another began. I don't care for a hard lock because it takes away from the effort necessary to hold a lock. This and energy management is what separates one pilots skill from another and determines a victor. This is part of armoredcores DNA and what makes it fun. That's why veterans of the series don't want it. Now don't get me wrong I look forward to what the creators have said and honestly I think this game will be very similar to acfa but realize it is a mixture of vd and lr as well and I welcome that. My beef is people coming into the community and demanding armoredcore be drastically altered to be souls like because they want it to be. Too bad. It's not happening, and you can think it is all you want. That's totally up to you, but reality is reality.
@CoffeePotato
@CoffeePotato Жыл бұрын
This is assuming a lot of things. Just to broadly cover stuff... 1. Whatever category category you see yourself as is up to you. I'm trying to explain that this cycle has been around for over a decade now. 2. Not the most important, but long missions were a thing long before 5. They've always been there, just in between everything else. Silent Line in particular had some that could go for 45 minutes or more under some circumstances. Remember when your first time through SL during the prototype mission, how you'd burn through resources and go back to the truck, only to regret the cost and avoid it on figure playthroughs? It sounds like the repair kits are a first playthrough tool, destroying your rating at the cost of just getting through it for now. Aka "Using this is admitting you lost" kind of a vibe. 3. Holding a lock isn't hard, knowing when to shoot is. This is why doing a Rocket only gets far easier when never moving the camera for the most part, but knowing everything's pattern, and hitting it on a curve. *Unless using a sniper build, in which case Last Raven is guaranteed to be your favorite experience, I'm sure that smoldering PS2 disc over there is something else. What I'm trying to get across about the hard lock is that it's there for a reason. Not a "we need it to be Souls" reason, but a "we want you to be able to study movements and react accordingly" reason. How many players never have AC a chance because they didn't see the details? Who honestly ever saw a laser blade bounces off of energy shields and actually did something with that information? These little often missed details make challenge runs incredible for AC, and I think this camera switch will cause folks to pay attention to stuff they'd never see otherwise. These folks have never made a change for a lazy reason.

The lock on thing isn't about it just being like Souls though. That's an accusation thrown at people who have legitimate concerns over it. That's a change in gameplay, which people are afraid of. Going from having to manually aim in a general direction, to just having everything done for you at all times, that's a totally different play style. And while there was lock on in previous games, it had downsides. Your parts on you AC when it came to tracking opponents. Now that seems to have been pretty much removed.
@CoffeePotato
@CoffeePotato Жыл бұрын
But it hasn't been, that's the part that annoys everyone else. It's this mentality of "if I scratch this itch, I'll accidentally lobotomize myself". It's this leap to assume they suddenly didn't understand how to make their mechanics work after decades of making AC games. We know turn speed exists, we know locks can be broken, it's different, but they know what they're doing. The lock on stuff has been iterated on tons of times, this ain't new.

@@CoffeePotato As a rule, FromSoft will always launch relevant extensions after the new generation of AC to average down the cost. But in the past, you didn't even know AC2AA & ACSL, etc. This is a big difference from today's launch of new AC with less publicity after a decade of time. Interviews often deny the relationship between AC6 and soulborne, but the trailer has sentences like "let the last cinder burn" that new players associate with. On the other hand, the trailer also uses terms such as "raven" and "augmented human" to make associations with old players, but it seems to abandon the original turning mechanism, which makes it impossible for any player to determine the content, and this uneasiness is the cause of the dispute.

I do. People seem to think their hot take means they don't have to see where others are coming from, though. Considering there's a turn speed stat, and we see a fly by lock break, this is how agile 4th gen Lock on ideas worked. Yes, technically the anchor idea has evolved since then, but it's the same ides. Things can be technically different while being in the same vein. Souls evolved from Armored Core, which now came back with another remixed version. It's what they do.

What I did find funny is that it seems some vet players seem concerned for the pvp, while I'm here saying that it is the first armored core game in praticaly 10 years can't they just appreciate it ? Also I personnaly think that this game is going to be more open to the newer players but remain a skill ceiling pretty high. The reason I have my concerns for ac6 is because of sekiro. Sekiro started as a reboot of tenchu. You can feel the soul of tenchu in there. Sneaking around and stabbing guys in the shadows. Using your grappling hook to get around places. Then souls mechanics got added to it. Now I can't play sekiro because every time I try to pick it up and give it a go I see tenchu and what could have been if it had stayed strictly a tenchu game instead of merging into sekiro. I enjoyed what bit of sekiro I could power through but I couldn't play it for more than a few hours without getting sad over a franchise that I loved as a kid on my Playstation still being dead and from Frankensteining it's corpse into some form of undeath. I worry that AC6 might end up feeling the same. I pre-ordered ac6. I took my birthday week off just to play it on release because I am excited for it. I am going to play it, but it's not armored core.
@CoffeePotato
@CoffeePotato Жыл бұрын
The Sekiro comparison gets made every now and then, but it didn't even have the bar stagger mechanic until AC did it in at least 3 different versions first. Started with just heat, then became the shield break, then directly became stagger. Also, said it right there, it started as a Tenchu reboot, but ended up becoming it's own thing because that's how creative stuff goes sometimes. This is still AC.

This video aged badly, and this is coming from someone who strongly likes AC6's campaign. Hard Lock and no turning speed did dramatically reduce the skill ceiling of PvP, as the game of positioning to get a better angle on your opponent has been completely removed. While not as hard of a lock, you could lock on to turn with the target more, got a little lock view window, and generally tracked them more. You could still spin away from it, and it wasn't the most popular thing, but just like turning off your FCS for manual fire, it was there.

First of all, dismissing people who are unhappy about changes being made as irrational is just obnoxious. You don't even have a point really. Your claim is something absurd like 'things always change and people eventually adjust so no issues'. Except thats not true at all. Things change and the fans who liked what was removed drop out. You've stuck through all the changes? Well, congratulations! All that means is none of the changes made so far has affected *your* enjoyment of the game enough to stop playing it. Obviously, another fan might feel differently. Why you'll cheerfully dismiss their experiences, I don't know. I mean, it doesn't occur to you that the reason you think fans just adjust to whatever changes have been made is that the ones who don't like them *aren't in the fandom anymore*? Maybe you just like giant robots and gameplay doesn't matter you, but a lot of people like specific things about their favourite franchises. They like specific types of gameplay. A certain level of complexity. And if that changes, they're allowed to be unhappy about it. Ps - Saying Souls and Armored Core are basically the same is completely ridiculous.

Thing is as Coffee Potato argues "nothing" in Armored Core's history has been CONSISTENT one can argue that the main thing that "stayed" consistent in AC's history is the garage but even the parts list of the garage changes from generation to generation and its a mission based system. the intricacies of mechanics has changed especially in the transistion from 3rd gen to 4th gen where movement from 3rd gen was improved upon on no more hover extensions, omni booster, boost turners as in 4th gen it has been integrated into the Quick Boost and booster system, 5th gen improved the melee options with the boost charge system as Melee was and still is clunky up to 5th gen while still keeping in touch what 4th gen movement did so the fact its still integrated with Quick Boost being renamed to High Boost the fact you can still "2nd stage" High Boost by rhythmitically boosting instead of the "tension" you use to quick boost. AC6 has the evolution of 5th gen mechanics. I mean can one argue that the "pace" of Quick Boosting and High Boosting isnt any different from how people from Gen 1-3 used bunny hopping? But thats just drawing the straws IMHO How bout being able to fire all 4 weapons, thats been not exactly part of AC's core mechanics but if you think how you build and use extensions, with an EO core and 2 ranged arm weapons.... thats technically 4 weapons but again thats drawing another straw as the max you could go in AC5 was 3 your shoulder unit + 2 arm weapons but depending on what you slapped on your shoulder unit (1 slot over 2 slots missiles, CIWS, energy condenser or lock on computer as shoulder unit is a hybrid of option parts missiles and extensions packed into 1 frame part) you can practically say you are using 4 weapons but again drawing of straws argument
