Aesthetically speaking, I love Bloodborne because of the gothic setting, the Lovecraftian theme, the epic soundtrack. Gameplay-wise, I love Bloodborne because of how it forces you to focus on every engagement (and I LOOOVE games that makes me do that). Lore-wise, I love Bloodborne because it makes me feel like I'm Sherlock Holmes trying to decipher a case.

This is the best Lovecraft game because it makes you lose your mind just like the characters in the Lovecraft-stories. You just lose it in a different way, because some of the bosses are near damn impossible.

I would put my signature under every your word in this video. Bloodborn is probably one of my most favorite games of all times (i even have a Bloodborn inspired art painted for me and hanging from the walls of my apartment). It's story, art styles and underlining philosophical themes makes me want to return to this masterpiece of the video games even after two year from original walkthrough. And of course I would love to see more Bloodborn related content on this channel.

I love that the game went full lovecraft halfway into it. The stories he wrote are just mindblowing. And like you said "The implication that strange things are always surrounding you, but you're just not enlightened enough to see them." The insight you gain so you can learn more about the game world that's just crazy good. That's why Micolash wears a cage on his head because he gained so much insight when he made contact with the great ones and he does not want to lose it or let others steal his insight (eyes in the inside.) And yes this is also obviously my favorite game of 2015.

Great video. I subscribed to your channel because of Nier. But Bloodborne is one of my other five favorite games of all time. However, it's actually not that hard to answer: - It has one of the best soundtracks ever made in any medium - the voice acting and overall sound design is also extremely good - It transformed the already awesome gameplay of Dark Souls into something even more fun - It has some of the best bosses ever made - It has awesome aesthetics in an awesome setting - It has an intelligent multi-layered story which offers you more the more effort you invest in it, but never reveals everything It's simply an awesome game overall with stunning quality in every aspect. I love it.

Ya know, first time I played bloodborne was at a friend's house, we were both busy with school so we could only do so on weekends and then he went to college and was only in town one or two times a month so it took us the better part of a year before I finished the game. And while yes the series is better experienced for yourself I had an amazing time, it felt like I was a young hunter, starry eyed at the prospect of violence and carnage I've never seen the likes of before and he was a war veteran, teaching me tricks and how to survive the harsh world of Bloodborne when it eventually bashed my little naive head in. For that whole year I kept looking foward to when we could play again, because exploring the world was just that endearing. All in all, I get what you're saying, this game is hard to talk about because unless someone really plays it, they won't absolutely understand what it is. Like describing colors to a blind man, you can list thousands of sensations that color reminds you of, but they would never truly understand it unless they had experiences similar to yours.

No, even tho Bloodborne is a great game. It might be your personal favorite, but a "game of a generation" would be one that changed gaming entirely. How people play games, how others perceive gaming as a whole, how it impacted the entertainment industry....something along those lines. As amazing as it is, it didn't do that. The first Dark Souls would probably fit that narative better. There's a reason there are a lot of "souls-like" games around, and not bloodborne-like (born-like?) ones. And as a whole, it's probably not even Dark Souls...it's sadly something a lot less interesting...like "battle royales" 🤮

PrototypeBlack battle royals are hopefully just temporary thing. Like online gaming is changing realy fast and i dont think that it forexample in 10 years will be as popular as it is now. On the other hand the dark souls formula will prevail (just because its singleplayer which in these terms works differently). .....hopefully.....

I was thinking about playing Bloodborne for some time now snd I guess you gave me the reasons why I really should play that game! Honestly I've been playing too many FPS games (mainly Overwatch because I left cod) and I'm forgetting about all the different types of games that are out there for me to play! I mean Nier Automata was a good change for me and tbh Nier Automata is like my top game now! I just love it soo much! The story, the characters, the soundtrack, the atmosphere I could legit just go on! Its actually because of you that I thought twice about buying the game because I had no intention of even buying that game even after playing the demo but apprently your Drakengaurd/Nier story cross-over explanation really got to me and showed what Nier automata was so yeah this comment really became longer than i wanted it to but whatever

Wholeheartedly agree with this video. There's an intangible feeling to exploring Yharnam that draws you in deeper and deeper to the world, something that only becomes stronger the more your mind dwells on it. How the combat, music, art direction and themes blend together allows it to become one a truly of a kind game even amongst its peers. At once exhilarating and terrifying to experience, Bloodborne is a true masterpiece IMO. Off-topic: I remember watching your story summary on the _Drakenguard to Nier Automata_ games months ago and loving it, so I'm happy Buns helped me rediscover this channel. Your voice is soothing in a way few other content creators share (VaatiVidya is one that springs to mind, but I can't tell if it's the video's subject matter that's swaying my opinion there) 🙂.

Bloodborne was truly a fantastic and unique experience indeed. I still remember the first time seeing those giant spiders (Amygdalas?) on rooftops after having gained enough enlightenment, and getting dragged off to Yahar'Gul by one of those sack wielding dudes (the music of that area gives me chills to this day), and fighting the Moon Presence... Man, all that stuff was legit creepier and more disturbing than any horror game I've played. I think for me it's also the setting and "feeling" that made the game. I'm a massive Devil May Cry fan, and the goth victorian setting reminded me of that a lot. Fuse that with some genuine horror and Souls-like gameplay, and you've got me creaming myself. That said, I never got quite as invested in Bloodborne's lore as I did with DS1 (this game has some of the best stories ever told in a video game, imo), which made the game end up feeling a little... empty to me, in comparison. There's definitely brilliant parts, and I love the mystery and the whole enlightenment aspect, but it felt like a bit of a mess overall and never had the same impact on me. So for me personally, DS1 takes the crown as the best in the series, with Bloodborne following it. I want to forget DS2 ever existed, and DS3 felt like a boring, empty husk of DS1 (although a nice-looking one), which I haven't even bothered to finish to this day... :x I think my disappointment in those 2 games actually made me appreciate Bloodborne a lot more, as well.

I've been on a Bloodborne video binge lately (Ludwig, Holy Blade anyone?), so this video came as a pleasant surprise. I watched the Grumps play it several times (yes I rewatch their playlists), and the gothic aesthetic, the Lovecraftian lore, and the music are all amazing. I would love to play it myself, just can't afford to keep buying games willy nilly. Edit: Very nice video, the music and your exploration was a nice mix.

That's fine, but I (personally) think that was a shame. The struggle of gaining insight in Bloodborne is a really deep experience, which is how these people who love the game dearly got so obsessed in the first place. Though that shouldn't stop you good Hunter, go on and kill a few beasts......
@ranvionist
@ranvionist 7 жыл бұрын
It's actually a shame you can't play this. I won't say this like an elitist, but Bloodborne (and Soul series) greatest strength is telling the story through the gameplay. The insight you got when you meet and defeat the boss? It's telling story of how you getting eldritch knowledge each time you conquer them. And defeating a boss in Bloodborne is really really _hard_ so you know how utterly difficult you had to do for getting these knowledge of cosmos. Also, accumulating Insight too much is dangerous too as it will make usual enemies harder. It a sign your eyes opened at what you actually do hunt and what consequences you had to pay in order to comprehend the meaning of it.

You perfectly described why I love Bloodborne (and Dark Souls) so much with "you leave the game with more questions than answers". This series is probably the only one who did it so well since Shadow of the Colossus (my favorite game of all time mostly for that reason) or Joutney, or games like that. It's really the kind of thing that makes a game fascinating, and that would make me want to play the same game over and over again (like I lost count of how many times I finished SotC. Probably more than 15 times. Yeah.) and that would make them stick with me for a while, if not my entire life. And I feel like Nier (and Nier A.) has got the same kind of vibe to it (mostly beacause I haven't play the Drakengard games), so thank you sooo much for having me seriously getting into Nier. Love to you all

I think you summed up Bloodborne very nicely. It's definitely one of my favorite games. When I play it, the main draw is the wonder that it imparts on me. I like games that keep me guessing and provoke speculations. Everything you encounter feels important in some way. Every location leaves you awestruck, for better or worse. The bosses and their themes feel significant. Everything feels like it matters, and that's why this game matters so much to me. So... yeah. Love your videos. Keep it up.

I think has a it has an intoxicating "Bram Stoker meets HP Lovecraft" style that I hardly see in video games at all. The atmosphere and the art design is probably the most beautiful I have ever seen in any game. The music is flawless and amplifies the visceral feeling of being on another olabe of existence. The story is utterly fascinating and you have the option of exploring more of the lore and mythos should you dare to venture further. The boss battles are fun and engaging; tough but fair. And the pace is exhilarating to say the least. Its a game that's sucks you into its own madness and it feels like a theme park ride without stopping for air. I share the love as well Sofie. Its the main reason why I bought a PS4 in the first place.

May I admit to you something? I'm obsessive, beyond the point where I do not know myself, wishing that all forms of myself may be erased, a constant denial perhaps, pleading for release, from the death of my mother and my soul at the age of five. I would wager myself complex, able, inspiring and aspiring, unique, yet I am none of these things, nor am I able to force myself to be. I akin myself to you through viewing your videos, and understanding through the statement of "I played this at a time when I felt this..." And I having the same situation in my past provides me with solace in myself as i accept myself a little more, and find things that much simpler. Bloodborne isn't my favorite game, but it's always going to hold a special place in my heart for introducing me to dark souls.

I'm another one who wasn't a big fan of Dark Souls, but is really into Bloodborne. Aesthetics, themes, gameplay. All of it is so much more appealing to me. Always been intrigued by dreams and their power, the idea that madness is tied to insight, and I love how the game starts out seeming to be about more terrestrial Victorian-style monsters (like werewolves) then slowly shifts to a focus on Lovecraftian horrors. The weapons are way more bad-ass too.

You love Bloodborne and we're the same age? We're basically the same person! Love your channel and your awesome content. Also, you're totally right. Bloodborne is hard to talk about. I tried writing an essay about it, but I just can't!

Gonna tell you something, this video, actually helped me get my bearings on Bloodborne, because its my favorite game too, maybe because its so mindblowing to me, though i am one of thoses case where im also in love with Dark Souls (perhaps even more than with Bloodborne at some times) because i like the Mediveal Gothic setting more than Bloodborne's Victorian England. But the whole it striked me just where i always wanted a game to do, to just shove me in and tell me a story with the basis on the Reverse Hero's Journey, that makes me think "What the fuck does this all mean? What does the blood means, why the lovecrafitian creatures?". Im babbling too much. What i mean to say is: Your video is perfect to explain what you fell for Bloodborne, because thats what bloodborne wants you to feel, it wants you to question everything and search answers that will problably lead to more questions and realise that maybe at the end, you dont come closer to the higher beings such as god, but instead, that the higher beings are so diferent that they are incomprehensible. Its not meant to be toned down to just words, because there is not an answer, not a clear one at least.

I feel where you're coming from Valkyrie & appreciate the praise & love that you have for Bloodborne. If you dived deep into the lore then you would understand that Bloodborne just like Dark Souls is a complete masterpiece!

4:30 - Ahh. I understand now. I was terrified of everything about this game for SO LONG because of all the blood, gore, body-horror, etc, all things I am afraid of. But with this line, I understand. Too old for most kids' stuff and too young to come back around to it and recognize the amount of effort that goes into good kid's media. That hunger for something /totally different/. And winding up in goth fandom land. At that same point in my life, about the same age, I read Tithe by Holly Black. Loved that author ever since. Side note: Crooked Little Vein by Warren Ellis.

Bloodborne is easily the most complete souls game, lorewise. The DLC tied up all major loose ends satisfactorily... unlike every other souls game.

Bloodborne isn't a Souls game though. I don't mean to sound pedantic because there isn't a "Souls" in the title, but it diverges very differently in concept as well as execution from the Souls games. Even if it WERE a Souls games, I'd say that Dark Souls 1 is more complete lore-wise.

Never played Bloodborne but I want to so bad! It's the lore and aesthetic that drive me to love it. That feeling that you're just a small piece of something so much bigger, understanding the pain that the people you once called your enemies went through to make them the monsters you see before you. You're on a mission to understand this world, but also to understand this words pain and what led it to ruin. Also Sophie, is there a full version of your Op? I keep searching Aethers music but I don't know the name of your Op or if it's even public to listen too.
