Been using the collapsible poles for about 3 years. One of the poles inner wire came apart when going down hill on the first day of a 3 day hike...that's why you take duct tape! I haven't been able to fix it, but a second round of tape has lasted 2 years and I'm still using them.

Wow that's some DIY right there! Well done. :)

Was unaware of Foxelli before this video, and I will give them a look. I prefer using the terms telescopic poles and folding poles which make it easier to visualize.

They've served me very well!

I love my collapsible poles. Ultralight, compact and comfortable. The only drawback is they're not adjustable and I have a ZPacks single pole tent. A ski strap does the trick to bind the two poles together for the perfect height.

Yeah with a trekking pole tent I'd prefer an adjustable pole but that works!

Folding poles are also good because the gaps between sections means they are more likely to dry out on the inside when you get back home :)

Good point!

Yep. Collapsing without adjusting is the most important thing. I'm surprised how many people don't make the same choice. That's a great price on carbon poles. Same ballpark as AliExpress.

I didn't even realize that's how they worked until I'd got a set. Maybe people just don't think about it until they try them out!

@ I haven't tried carbon poles. I have stumbled a couple of times and bent my aluminum poles. I just straighten them and keep going. Not sure that I want to deal with the potential for a broken carbon pole. But I am tempted to try.

I have trekking poles but tend to use / recycle my old composite hockey sticks. hockey sticks are super light and very strong.

I would not have thought of that! Cool. :)

I thought z poles were the way to go, but replaced my Diamond Distance Z Poles last year with a 2-clamp telescopic type due to continual fussiness with the z mechanism and constantly coming apart when planted in sticky mud or rock crevices. Maybe having a clamp (vs twist-lock) on the Foxelli helps with these issues. Just registering my experience.

Interesting, thanks for sharing that! I've never had poles with twist locks, I'm too impatient haha.
