@@RezValla Me, for one, I always liked Enterprise. It is my favorite Trek after TOS. I will admit that it took a while for my favorite characters to grow on me: Trip, Tpol and Flox But when they did, I absolutely loved the series. I was never a big fan of TNG, although I watched it off and on and went to all of the movies. I gave Discovery almost 2 years -- I never grew to like anything about it. In fact, I grew to despise it.

I always like Enterprise, I even bought the strangely shaped DVD box sets of it. It’s a shame it only had 4 seasons and was the point that I realised that TV / movies I would want don’t have mass appeal. So just happy to have had what I have. Like others have said I don’t even consider new trek post STE Star Trek. It’s someone else’s interpretation on the genre. One I don’t like

Damage has one of my favorite moments. The aliens have refused to trade and archer is contemplating in his dark quarters. Phlox makes a report. Archer stands up and steps into the dark. "How long have you been a doctor?" 'Nearly forty years' "In your time as a doctor, have you ever had to do something you felt was unethical?" Phlox steps forward joining him in the dark. 'Twice... why?' "I'm about to cross a line I never thought I would. And given the nature of our mission, it probably won't be the last time" 'Probably not. May I ask what you're planning to do?' "There could be casulties" 'I'll be ready'

@@Zimionz It's not just an act of piracy though. It was made clear that the loss of that warp coil would strand the aliens for years in a hostile region and with few supplies. Archer knew that he was in all likelihood condemning the entire crew to death.

Trip and T'pol's relationship becomes the heart of the entire show. When they hold hands at the end of season 4 (forget the final-final episode, it's not real) while mourning their daughter it's an amazing contrast to their first meeting when T'pol wouldnt even shake Trip's hand. Enterprise in so many ways proved to be a show about people from different worlds finding themselves in situations where they needed to trust each other to achieve a common good and I think the show, for all of the issues in the first two seasons, really stuck the landing on that theme in seasons 3 and 4. Trip and T'pol forever ❤

Enterprise is still my favourite Trek. I grew up with TOS and TNG aired as a teenager but Enterprise just seemed more raw and consequential. Its been a decade or two since I last watched it but the stealing from an ally episode really stuck with me to this day. I liked the fact that there wasn't always a perfect, moral, solution and Archer sometimes made tough decisions that no other captain seems to have faced. Edit to add - loved the MACOs too.
@napoleonfeanor

Sisko also had to do such decisions. Because of the existential threat from the dominion, federation is forced to do desperate things. Section 31 does the most questionable things like genociding the founders and assassinating a romulan upcoming leader in order to get a corrupt one into power who can be controlled but who is outwardly hostile to the federation while the killed obe was for the alliance but Sloan thinks she is too much of a patriot. But also normal federation does questionable things like putting earth under military control to weed out the changelings

I always found Enterprise to be my favorite Star Trek. There's real character evolution happening over the course of those four years - Archer started as a wide-eyed captain, was really turned inside-out by the grueling events of the Xindi story, and by season 4's end he became more hopeful as the local spacefaring races ceased hostility and allied together, effecting real change thanks to him. T'pol's constantly looking down her nose on the human crew at first and loosening up as time goes on, becoming a solid cornerstone of the team, was great to see (although I would have liked her to wear Vulcan robes rather than catsuits). Most of the main cast went through a lot of development (other than poor Mayweather), and Season 3 was a huge contributor of that development. I think one of the greatest robberies foisted upon mankind is the fact that we never saw a Season 5 where Captain Shran joined the crew. Damn, that would have been epic.

Season 4 will always be my favorite, but the Xindi arc was fantastic and made me wish that we had gotten that season long Year Of Hell arc that was originally planned for Voyager. Interesting fact about Carpenter Street: I remember reading an interview about star Jeffery Dean Morgan and he apparently HATED working on that episode so much that he almost quit acting all together because of it.

I recently watched the entire series for the first time. I've always been a Star Trek fan but never bothered to pay much attention to this particular series. I've seen all the other Trek shows but just never got around to this one until a few weeks ago. When I finished watching it, I couldn't believe that I overlooked it all these years. I'm 53 and it took me this long to realize that this series is one of my favorites, just behind TNG with my favorite being the original series. After finishing the series, I found a KZbin show called 'Shuttlepod' hosted by Connor Trinear and Dominic Keating from Enterprise and it is very good. They interview members of the show as well as other Star Trek series', as well as interviewing each other. It's definitely worth watching and gives a lot of insight on Enterprise as a series and how they all felt about being part of it. Great video here, Dave! Thank you.

One relationship I absolutely loved in this season was the rivalry between Reed and Hayes. Having two military minded officers butting heads throughout the season only to gain a mutual respect for eachother is great to watch, not to mention Hayes death being one of the most heartbreaking ones of the entire season, if not the entire show. Also, the two episodes with Commander Shran are of course amazing, though he's one of my favourite characters in the entire series so I may be a bit biased.

1:40 I get why that may have been a concern at the beginning of the season, but not once it had all aired. Another key point about Season 3 is that it ties in several threads that makes you appreciate Seasons 1 and 2 a bit better. It is like how the TNG finale sends Picard back to (well, just before) the pilot and you get to watch him see just how far Data evolves in his quest to become more human. Seeing the early Data reminds us of the rough edges of the early start and shows the growth of the character, the actor, the writers and the show overall. Point being, you appreciate Data's arc by revisiting what it was like in the beginning in a way that reframes the early clunky days of the writing as a natural beginning to the arc that would come (regardless of the lack of planning at the start (I assume). Enterprise S3 adds a cohesion and gets the show on solid footing similar to how TNG Season 3 is where key characters find their durable groove (ex Geordi becomes chief engineer, Dr. Crusher finds a voice) and whenthe writers turned out some of the most innovative and icon episodes (Yesterday's Enterprise, Sarek, Best of Both Worlds, etc).

S3 of Enterprise was really something unique for the day, and it holds up incredibly well. The NX01 was the first Trek hero ship to be fully CGI, no physical model. It may seem cliche today, but it was new then. It was oddly refreshing to see the heavily damaged Enterprise in the late S3 and NOT see it repaired fully by the next episode. Even without the time travel angles, Voyager would do that all the time. Heavily damaged, fully repaired by next week.

I do agree that Season 3 of Enterprise was a bit controversial in being completely serialized. It's more forgivable today because you can just binge-watch it, and even then, it still delivers the story far better when compared to the depressing STD and Picard's "To be continued" franchise. And yes, Season 4 (with the exception of the series finale) is amazing for Enterprise. At least Season 3 of Picard does give a nod that the NX-01 did get its deflector dish.

I had to pause the vid at 2:30 because you were going into spoiler territory for me….because….I’m watching Enterprise season 3 for the very first time at the current moment! I’m a big Star Trek fan but, due to my career, had never consistently watched both Deep Space Nine or Enterprise when they originally aired. Therefore, it was a delight for me to complete Deep Space Nine last year and see Star Trek captains go in order to try and save humanity. The Deep Space dominion war story arc was impressive to say the least. But I must confess my deep discomfort with Sisco leading the Romulus into a war due to his deception. So…all I can tell you is I’m enjoying Enterprise right now with the exception of a recent episode to me “Similitude” where Archer exploits another life form to harvest organs. I struggle with the ethical implications and stood firm as officially offended the episode. That being said, I think the Archer decision harkened back to the Sisco Romulan deception so I see where the producers are going because the dominion war story is so deeply revered by fans. But for now, I will have to wait until I complete Enterprise to render a verdict on both the show and Season 3.

Its kinda my new favorite. Its better than I remember, and its because of season 3 that I got back into it.

I still remember complaining on a forum about the premise of the show when it started. That we never heard of Archer in canon nor the Xindi War. I really moaned about it. But as I continued, it got me hooked. I realised it was a good show with my test, that I became grumpy if I forgot to set the vcr to record it (I'm not that way anymore with modern Trek. If I don't watch any, I'm fine). That series taught us so much about Vulcans and expanded on their lore and revealed their fascination with Humans. Andorians, Tellarites and the lot. We have ourselves to blame for that show being cancelled.

There is one episode in season 3 that I do like to watch a lot. I don't recall what it was called but there is one part in there that you never see in any other star trek and that's where captain Archer takes. A prisoner that they have caught. Put them into an airlock and proceeds to take the air out of it until the guy gives up the information. He wants and almost kills them in the process. It's in that part of that show that you see a whole different side to Archer And that in my opinion gives his character a lot more depth Like I said I don't recall any other starfleet captain ever doing that to a prisoner much less anyone else

Ah yes, season 3 of Enterprise; I'm not going to stop myself from admitting that it was my favourite production of Star Trek - ever. Just clicked with how the writers wrote the story, and the Xindi. Love from the Delphic Expanse, lol

I absolutely love Enterprise! It was disappointing to me when they tweaked the main theme song in the (best season ever) 3rd season because I loved the original opening theme. I honestly don’t know where any of the hate comes in, it’s mama totally underrated and terrific show.

Because of your reviews, my wife and I decided to give Enterprise a shot recently. We quickly realized two things once season 3 got underway: the writing was much better, and they sucked the life out of an already uninspired theme song.

Enterprise turned out to be a really good series in my opinion. I always look back fondly at the series. It's sad that it was cancelled early. After the changes that were made to the show, it had a lot of potential to really be one of the better shows in the universe. One of the things that I really liked about show was how they would explain various continuity issues between TOS and the rest of the series. For examples, why the Klingons looked completely different in TOS from how they look from ST: TMP and beyond.

I've always felt Enterprise was severely underrated and underappreciated. This is coming from a hardcore trekkie who watched the very first episode of TOS broadcast on TV -- The Man Trap.

Season 3 *trounces* All the Trek we have gotten since the end of Enterprise. I'm writing this as a fan of the '09 JJ flick and Beyond, not one of Into Darkness but still. We lost good Trek when Bad Robot got their license.

@@qui-gonrick7002 Yeah, the ship had sort of a retro feel, like the inside of a submarine. I think that is how the early star ships would look like, not like a hotel lobby like the later ships. I particularly liked the episode, Carbon Creek.

Azati Prime was the episode that finally knocked TNG off it's throne, and made Enterprise my new favorite Star Trek series. That battle at the end was the most brutal thing I'd ever seen outside of a Saw movie. The fact that THAT cliffhanger ending came right before spring break was even more of an agonizing wait than the summer vacation between parts 1 & 2 of "Best of Both Worlds". And the musical score during those battle scenes was phenomenal in capturing the tension and horror of watching the Enterprise burning in space with crew members being blown out that one hull breach. Dear God, even all these years later it's still painful to watch!

I completely agree! I had stopped watching Enterprise at a certain point but then I began to see some buzz online that I had to jump back in for season 3. I loved it for all of the reasons mentioned. While there is a fan base for it, I think that it’s way too under appreciated. Enterprise was really finding it’s place and I think we missed out not seeing where it could have gone if it wasn’t canceled.

Because it broke new ground, TOS stands above all the rest. TNG has to be admired if for no other reason it reintroduced a new generation of people to a live action Star Trek series. But to me, the much maligned Star Trek Enterprise is the best of the bunch other than TOS. Maybe it was the writing, or the actors, or a combo of the two.

Star Trek Enterprise was canceled just when it was getting good. The network badly blew it. Yes, I know, there are many who felt Star Trek was suffering from fatigue, but look at the crap we got now. Star Trek did not get better (except Picard Season 3), it got worse, and it's still not very good.

Season 3 of Enterprise definitely reset the shows tone and I personally go back and forth with weather I like it or not. I wished they would have introduced the Xindi like DS9 introduced the Dominion, subtly and ominously. But sadly such things are rare with all shows these days, Discovery very much included. Thanks for the review!

I was skeptical when I first heard there would be a prequel series after Voyager ended. When they had the first teaser trailer that showed various captain names, "Before Janeway, before Picard, before Kirk and Spok..." I wasn't impressed. But when they had the teaser trailer that showed footage? I was an instant fan at that moment. "To Neptune and back in 6 minutes!" Plus the song Wherever You Will Go by the Calling played in it, which still gives me chills. It grounded Trek in realism but captured the awe and wonder of space travel. The show was never perfect but Is my favorite Trek to this day.

Hated the changed main theme music, but loved the story arc and longform story telling. If the finale hadn't failed it would just be an awesome season of Semi-Trek. (That's what I call Star Trek that's half in Roddenberry's spirit and half modern, less utopian. Like DS9)

I still remember when enterprise ended, well I actually didn't know it at the time that it was the last episode as I was only about 14 or 15 and not active on star trek Internet sites. Me and my dad used to watch every episode of star trek together, he would record them as he had cable and I didn't at mums. Great memories, really sad what they have done to the show now.

I have always said that Enterprise was a criminally underrated series. Yes, Star Trek was too set in its ways back then and was held back by Berman and Co. But the show was still great Star Trek. I loved season 3 back then. So many great episodes. The characters were forced to do so many questionable things and then live with the consequences. This one season is what Voyager (a show I also loved) could and should have been. It will always be one of the most shameful things to me that this show didn't get its full 7 season run. I was looking forward to the Romulan War so much.

For me the first two series were the really good ones. Although there were a lot of weaknesses, I found something really refreshing and new about a tale of the human race's stubbling first attempts to join a bigger world, where humans had to try hard to have any relevance among more advanced races.
