My sister got me this set for Christmas, haven't opened it yet. Miya also makes an anti-mildew/moistening spray, but another channel (sorry, can't remember which) recreated it - mostly distilled water, some alcohol and a small amount of glycerin. She cleaned up the Miya palette with the spray, then lightly sprayed it again before she closed it up. The glycerin and water keeps the paint moist and the alcohol keeps it from getting moldy. I plan on trying it!

Happy New year 🎉🎉🎉 I have that huge set I love it. I’m kinda addicted to this stuff 😅so fun to use. Distilled water is definitely the way to go to keep moist before closing. I also have that little pallet you transferred the gouache to. I like your idea. Might do the same for travel. Thanks for the tip. Great to see you also Wednesday came out great I love both pieces 🤗💕

I bought Windsor & Newton first but since I knew nothing about painting with gouache, I felt like I was wasting this expensive paint and hating my paintings. This was about the time jelly gouache was new and all over KZbin so I bought the 18 set for less that $20. Using the Himi gouache made me fall in love with gouache. I could play and practice and learn without feeling like I was wasting the “good stuff”. Definitely recommend for anyone wanting to try gouache.

I absolutely love the blocky style! I’ve been using gouache for a while now and I’m trying to get a more blocky style rather than a smooth blended look. I personally think the blocky style compliments the very matte paint well

Now, I have never used Himi gouache. I use Talens gouache from Tubes. A lot of people don't know that regular gouache can be used just as watercolour even if it dries completely. It still reactivates and with layering you can use it just like from the tube. With gouache it is important to use from watery layers and build up the consistence to more creamy. So I would imagine it's easy to use dried up gouache in underpaintings. I saw this video of a girl putting their dried up gouache into a jar and water and it got really creamy again. My Caran D'ache gouache in completely dried out tubes did not become creamy, but I can totally use them. Another thing people don't know about gouache, is that it can be used on any paper and even paper that can't handle ink or water can usually handle gouache. I have painted in old books and they work fine, just as bullet journal and just random shiny paper pages from magazines. Of course those can't handle hanging on the wall but in a sketchbook it's all fine to experiment. And it's super cheap too since you can literally use any paper with gouache. Such a fun medium! Actually same paper tip goes for oil pastels (except maybe shiny magazine paper). I think now that gouache is getting really big, the next big hit will be oil pastels. They already are a big hit in Asian countries.

Congratulations on finishing your finals, these were your last if I remember correctly? Good to have you back! A Himi Gouache set is on my wishlist but with the inflation and everything I think the smallest set is worth more than 1K L.E and I still feel guilty for spending money even when it's my own (It's my salary for God's sake!!) but I feel so embarrassed around my parents with everything happening here. 🙃

Loved how the paintings turned out, especially the landscape and especially the blocky style. My gouache art style is very smooth and I’ve been meaning to shake it up and make it “blockier” but mine is still super smooth haha. While I’ve never tried the Miya Himi gouache set before (I’m also very fussy about cleanliness in my sets so huge chance I’m gonna hate them lol) but from what I’ve seen, I think they look like a good student grade set - especially when you’ve compared them to Reeves which are really chalky and almost made me hate gouache just because how much of a hard time I’ve had with them. Today I primarily use W&N which made me really love gouache but I sometimes wished I started with a higher quality set before switching straight to W&N. I might consider buying this for my sister who really wants to try gouache out but since I’m in university with my W&Ns with me and I also don’t want her to suffer using chalky paints starting out. And if you’re wondering, you can buy more W&N colours but as far as I know they’re not in sets. W&N have 82 colours but besides the primary set (five colours - primaries + white + black) and the introductory set (warm primaries + cold primaries + white + black + yellow ochre + permanent mid green; which I got), the rest must be bought individually. Some of the colours like the super dramatic pinks and purples are very hard for even folks with the best colour theory understanding to mix up. Personally I won’t recommend buying the extra colours if you’re tight on cash and don’t need them since they can get pretty expensive and I don’t buy them myself because I primarily paint animals and nature and would have no need for a hot pink anytime soon but colours are up to preference anyways. Colour mixing is hard and while I’ve had plenty of practice (after my first set of acrylics died I ended up getting a bulky 5 colour mixing set to force myself to practice), I don’t mind tricks and many colours is a nice way to shortcut your way to a desired shade or hue. TL;DR: Paintings turned out great. I’ve never used Miya Himis but from the looks of it they look like a nice introductory set and W&N come in 82 colours but only some come in sets. Also colour mixing is hard so many colours can be a nice shortcut.

@@midollafun it’s okay. I think to get me started and learn if it’s a medium I want to use - it was great. But it also doesn’t go down well and acts less opaque and more like a water color. I have a lot of work to do to get my studio to storage heaven level as this intro! Do you stick to a schedule for KZbin? I didn’t used to but tried in the last 6 months but going back to a more lose schedule, which should give me time to get my life organised 😂 The Wednesday looked like the actress! Stylised yes but could definitely see it was their version of Wednesday 😁 My gouache is a lot more muddy, I have the sea white ones but those are 9 of similar but bigger pots; yet to try the famous jelly; and haven’t tried winsor and newton yet either, but I like their watercolours , oils and acrylics (though usually stick to daler rowney for acrylic ) 😊 Do you ever see a sketchbook page and wish you had done so on a canvas, these are finished artwork level! Some of my pages are like that, but most are scribbles figuring things out 😁

You don't need the 50 paint pots. Just get the 18pots set. Or the 24 pots set. It will be enough mixing. But still have convenient colors. Save up. Amazon has deals every once in a while. This past week they had a sale on their deals.

I think as the comment above said, the 56 colour set is a LOT for just starting with gouache! I would recommend 18/24 jelly gouache set from Amazon, OR a really cheap tubed set from Amazon if you’re worried you won’t like gouache. Reeves gouache is what I started with, it was super cheap but it worked! P.S. I’m surprised you noticed omg 😂 I got like two paper cuts, hence the bandaids 💀
