Thanks for putting this vid up, Aaron. All your reasons add up. I like all kinds of boats but the only ones I want to use are beachable and transportable. Skimmer should be easy to own and fun on the water - and have room for all your crew.

Gday I just discovered your channel. Skimmer 👍 I'm also an X pusser. I was an ex skimmer sailer on Fremantle class patrol boats and big ships. Ironically I have an International 10sqm sailing canoe that I'm fixing up , they're a very narrow boat and hence have a tendency to flip over so Ive been thinking of naming it Guzunder boat...😂. Looking forward to watching the rest of your Janus / Skimmer build videos and your thoughts on the Janus design during thecbuild and once you're out sailing. Cheers
@Aaron.deRuiter4 ай бұрын
Nice mate, you 100% have to call it Guzunder, you'll get plenty of questions about the name! I've switched designs to something smaller and more trailerable. I still have the janus plans so I may continue the build at some point but for now I want a boat I can put on a trailer and sail different areas. Thanks for watching!

Cool Aaron. Yeah. I have a couple of Richard's plans - the Duo tender and the 18' Chat. Still wondering if I will ever build. I do recall that Richard did a pod for a mid sized cat he built. That was basically the same sort of space that his Wizzard has (although I'm not sure about the pop top/bottom. Hav fun in the build.
@Aaron.deRuiter3 жыл бұрын
Did you ever get round to building any Col? Yep, saw the cuddly cabin mod, definitely something to think about.
@colrodrick87843 жыл бұрын
@@Aaron.deRuiter unfortunately not. Had some predictable health problems and when I got over them I could not convince my wife (who was a cat sailor when younger) that we needed to have a boating life. We got a camper instead. I did get her interested in the SUP and we do go paddling here in Coffs while‘enjoying’ this lockdown. We did charter a lagoon 420 out of Airlie earlier in the year, and she did enjoy that. But there are plenty of the often told stories about boats in her family. I have only had good experiences on yachts, including Navy in the day. But she was part of a yacht delivery cruise for her Dad before I met her. Days of diesel fumes and going back on watch only to see the same lighthouse. I’ll certainly be watching your build. As you probably know, there’s a video of a guy with a Janus launching and assembling one in SA on you tube. Polish chap I think. Richard was really helpful with advice and GIS forum was the same. Haven’t looked at it for ages, but there was a lot of activity on it. Possibly, Brexit has slowed things down.

I like the rationale. Those are the same reasons I'm refurbishing a Farrier TT720. Which can be rigged from the trailer and launched in less than an hour.
@Aaron.deRuiter3 жыл бұрын
The farriers gave a great folding mechanism, no wonder you can get yours on the water so fast!

@@Aaron.deRuiter Yeah true, but I've yet to prove it on mine which needs new beam boxes. But i have watched and timed an F27 at 1hr 15 mins, pulling up at ramp to floating on pontoon ready to sail

Looking forward to your build from the other side of the world! I really like that design. I’m considering a Wharram Tiki 21 build or newer Mana 24 and order the kit to save some time. The waters I sail here in Florida US are similar to yours, and the Bahamas are tantalizingly close. Catamarans in this size range tick off a lot of things on the list for a family with young kids that want to explore. Last 2 sloops I’ve had a huge are is given to the cabin, that nobody uses. Can’t wait to watch your build and sailing!
@viniyung3 жыл бұрын
Mana 24 looks very good. Much more room than tiki 21.
@Aaron.deRuiter3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jonathan, I considered the Tiki 21 and also the Acorn 21 (also by Richard Woods) but both of those designs had their limitations for me. They both had only 2 berths and couldn't stretch out to 23ft as easy as the Janus. Sailing to the bahamas would be epic mate!

We will be down in Florida West Coast in April/May on Tiki 21 Beto if you want to get onboard for a sail and check it out

Subscribed, been considering building a Janus myself, also considering jarcat and spirited designs stowaway
@Aaron.deRuiter3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching mate! I haven't heard of the stowaway before but it looks like a motorsailing cat so not going to have the best performance to windward but would have great accommodation for coastal cruising.

When you bought the old boat, I thought that you will refurbish them... Personally I love CAT and I think you did a nice choose because it is not so big. Keep in mind: Big boat big cost. Let´s keep tuned to follow your construction. I live in Brazil and there is a couple constructing a huge cat. I don´t know they are adding subtitles in English.
@viniyung3 жыл бұрын
You are talking about Fausto and Guta and your Guruçá Catamaran. But is a self made catamaran with own plans. No one can build another and it's very expensive too. For people who wants affordable cats Richard woods, James Wharran and Bernd Kohler is the way to go.
